I think the original discussion was about the League Cup on the back of Kilmarnock winning it. Some said they'd rather win that than play in Europe others said opposite. For me, if offered the League Cup or European qualification at any level, I'd still take the Cup win.
-
Thanks for answering my question. I agree with alot of what you say especially the last paragraph. We've done extremely well for a club of our stature to have achieved all of that and this season's participation in the top European competition is definately something to be proud of. There are some clubs who can only dream of that. While I'd much rather see us win the Cup again than play in Europe, it's good that the club have been able to qualify for Europe and on a regular basis in recent years as well.

It's a messageboard for people to give and share views. I'm interested in the views of the people I quoted, that's all. If you don't want to take part in the discussion that's fine, but can we at least keep this on topic?
-
So now we're out of Europe, I was wondering if any of the posters I've quoted below and any others who shared the same view had changed their opinions from back in March when this was previously discussed on here. These quotes come from the Killie v Motherwell match thread last season when the discussion of whether winning one of the domestic cups was better for a club like our's than playing in Europe. I'm not having a go at anyone, I'm merely interested in the views of those who stated that they thought seeing us qualify for Europe was better than winning a cup and was wondering if they still hold those views...

The only decent thing over the tannoy is the police message that goes 'Bing-Bong-Bing-Bong' followed by a monotoned voice saying 'This is a police message to all spectators - the signal you have just heard will be made before an important police message, when you hear this signal please pay close attention to the message and any instructions which follow'. At least you know where you stand with that message. The rest of it is jumbled up, cringeworthy garbage.

I don't blame Ojamaa for tonight, I just find his attitude appalling. He's greedy, never looks for a team-mate when on the ball yet throws his arm up in frustration whenever he doesn't get the pass and stomps off in the huff whenever he gets hooked. He's an extremely poor man's Scott McDonald...without the ability.
-
And Levante were brilliant tonight???
-
No the first time he's stormed off up the tunnel in the huff though is it? Somebody seriously needs to have a word with him and remind him that he's not all that afterall...
-
Appreciate that.
-
Cummins wins this one hands down IMO.
-
Yip, garbage. Without doubt the worst 'European' match ever at Fir Park and I include Nancy in that.
-
Don't like to single players out for criticism but this guy Ojamaa's attitude fucking stinks. After yet another piss poor display tonight he storms straight up the tunnel after being deservedly subbed. He's a fucking chancer who's living on the reputation he gained during his first month at the club.
-
All I can say is thank fuck we're out of Europe as we just don't have what it takes to play sides like these. Tonight was painful to watch as it was a mere training exercise for Levante. And for all those having a go at the linesman for the first goal I suggest look a bit closer to home. You play til the whistle and we failed to do that so no one to blame but ourselves...again.
-
Good luck Motherwell, hopefully we'll give it everything we've got and maybe pull off a shock but I can't see it. 3-0 Levante
-
Completely agree with that, the Cup Final atmosphere was awful. However I think it's fair to say that the 16,000 in in the Motherwell end that day weren't all Motherwell fans.
-
The sooner McFadden signs for Celtic the better for some Motherwell fans IMO. I never thought I'd say those words given that I'd absolutely hate to see Faddy join 'them' but that's the one thing that would make some of our fans wake up and smell the coffee so maybe it's best we get it over with and we can all move on.
-
He's not coming back guys. Accept it and deal with it.
-
Or maybe because they wouldn't have been able to get anywhere near to matching his demands in terms of salary, appearance/win/goal bonus and so on....
-
Aww so Faddy's not coming home afterall then? I am surprised... and there was me just starting to get excited too
-
No. :yahoo:

Excellent result and great to get the first three points on the board. Five points from three SPL games is a very good start to the season,

Well I beg to differ on that one. Just look at some of the comments about McFadden playing against Everton in Hammell's testimonial for just one small example. More than half the chat before that game was about 'seeing Faddy playing for 'Well again' than the game or indeed Stevie Hammell himself. Exactly! It's a bit of marketing that the club are attempting in the hope that it increases the interest and thus the attendance for Thursday. There is absolutely no way McFadden would sign for us in fact I reckon it's an impossibility, given that we are, as a club, skint. I wonder how that 'conversation' would go; Phone: Ring ring, ring ring Faddy: Hello McCall: Aw rite James it's Stuart McCall up at Motherwell, you fancy coming back to play for us again? Faddy: What you mean in sombdy's testimonial or somethin? McCall: Eh no, he he, I mean, actually sign for us. Faddy: Takin the piss surely? McCall: Eh no, no you see we need to shift more tickets for this Europa League match next Thursday so the Chief Exectutive got together with the PR team and read steelmenonline.co.uk and thought it would be a good idea to sign you. So they told me to sound you out. Crazy I know. Faddy: Hahahahahah, awrite what wages would you offer? McCall: Erm, well you know what you earned at Everton? Well about a fifth of that. Faddy: Er nah yer awrite mate, I think I'll pass McCall: You sure? Would you take ginger bottles? Faddy: Phone me when it's Keith Lasley's testimonial, cheerio. .

Because talk like this excites the support, whips them into a frenzy and gets some of them believing that there is actually a chance that we could sign this fans favourite, Scotland internationalist who is way out of our wage bracket. Thus, they are more tempted to go out and buy tickets for what is a big match for the club and one that could bring in some much needed cash through gate money. There's absolutely not even the most remotest of chances that James McFadden could or would sign for Motherwell now or any time in the foreseeable future, but some Motherwell fans have somehow managed to convince themselves that it could happen, despite all the evidence to say otherwise and so the club are just playing on that. In my opinion of course.
-
I rest my case.

As I said last week, James McFadden is fast becoming the new Freddie Dindeleux on here, hardly a fortnight goes by without 'rumours' of him signing cropping up. That said though I still think there's about as much chance of Dindeleux singing for us as there is Faddy. I suspect this might just be a clever attempt at a PR stunt by the club in order to shift more tickets for next Thursday. Fair play to them for trying it though...
