They weren't that great but unfortunately they were too strong for us so the tie is over We just don't have the firepower to go over there and score at least two without reply to take it to extra time and we certainly aren't capable of getting a clean sheet over there.
-
Yip that's what it felt like tonight. We just needed that wee break, that wee cutting edge but we just couldn't find it
-
Can't fault the players tonight, we were up against a superior side and we certainly didn't disgrace ourselves. As has been said above, the lack of a killer touch has probably cost us here and while the manner in which we lost the 2nd was disappointing, it was always likely we would be caught on the break. So all in all it was a good enough effort but we've fallen just short. Onwards and upwards.

I would die happy.

Ooohhhh that's a terrible thing to say... Somebody needs to learn some basic manners by the sounds of things...

Being realistic, I reckon even the most optimistic happy clapping Motherwell fan knows deep down that we are not going to get past Panathinaikos because they are on a different level to us altogether, so it's damage limitation and nothing else here. What we have to hope for is that we can keep the score line down to something respectable and hope the confidence isn't sapped out of our players by the impending hammering we're going to get over the two legs.

Think the game you're thinking of was Boxing Day 98 when we beat Utd 2-0 at FP. Ged Brannan scored with a header before McMillan netted at wind assisted free kick. This was the day of the infamous Boxing Day Hurricaine for any weather experts out there.

A decent night's work from the lads tonight. Had a typical pre-season friendly feel about it but felt we were always in control of the game and largely restricted them to long range efforts which Randolph dealth well with all night. Great to see Hutchinson back. Quite an enjoyable game as friendlies go, always enjoy putting Accies in their place.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh you'll get it in the neck now.

Just the way it is on here mate and has been for many a year. You either dance to the majority's tune or you're 'stupid/ negative bugger/not a real supporter/a troll/Rangers fan/disgrace'. I wouldn't worry about it, it's only a messageboard afterall and there's many folk on here would do well to remember that. I remember when I was a wee boy hearing my auld man and some of his pals saying that Motherwell fans prefer to fight and argue with themselves rather than with fans of other clubs and since these boards were formed I've learned that that view appears to be pretty much spot on.

Really looking forward to this. Hopefully we give a good account of ourselves over the two legs and don't end up embarrassed. We really are punching above our weight here.

I didn't say I wasn't happy about McFadden playing for us on Saturday, I said I'm not overly bothered but it'll be nice to see him grace the Claret & Amber again, even just for a wee while. It's just that I'm a Motherwell supporter, not a James McFadden supporter and the fortunes of my club are far more important than an ex player, albeit a very popular one, playing a little cameo role in a testimonial for a player who has been and continues to be a terrific servant to our club. It's good that he's agreed to play a part in Hammell's testimonial and I hope it's a good turnout because Steven Hammell deserves that for the service he's given to the club. In my opinion - and I stress in MY opinion most strongly - the most important aspects of this game are to thank Hammell and to prepare our players for the season ahead. If others disargree with that and see the appearance of James McFadden as being more important than any of that then I'm delighted for you, make sure you lap it up.
-
I'm not overly bothered about it either. Obviously it will be nice for nostalgic reasons but that's it really. I'm much more concerned about how the players who are actually going to be playing for Motherwell this coming season fare, as it's important that they are fit and prepared for the season kicking off. Unlike most Motherwell fans, I don't still have James McFadden on such high a pedestal and haven't done since the day he left us. He was a terrific player for us in an otherwise awful time for the club and gave us some great memories and I've got a lot of respect for him for that but at the end of the day, he's a former player now, nothing more nothing less.
-
I think he meant he called his dug 'Kaiser' rather than Martyn.
-
Absolutely. This season is going to be a tough one for everyone, especially us who have a small squad and no money to strengthen, all while having to make financial cutbacks at the same time. Let's just get through this season, avoid relegation and keep the club afloat, hoping that the talk of administration or worse is no more than scare-mongering. If we finish season 2012/13 still in the SPL and still financially stable then I will be delighted.
-
Before the start of any season, my first hope is that we avoid relegation and I think we can do that, but only after a bit of a battle with the likes of Inverness, Ross County and possibly St.Mirren. I say it every year as some are only too glad to point out but I do expect a struggle in the SPL for us this season as the small squad, combined with financial cut backs will mean that we will be unable to strengthen the squad. As for the Cup competitions, the Champions League will be a great experience for us and I only hope we give a good account of ourselves, while I fully expect us to do nothing in either of the domestic cups with early exits in both. I predict that we will finish 11th.
-
Yes indeed, I hope so too.
-
I would have agreed with that had we lost by the odd goal today, but we've just been pasted 4-0, FOUR-FUCKING-NIL by a second division club. That's worrying no matter how you dress it up. Our squad is small, even smaller than it was last year and it seems unlikely that we'll bring anyone else in, so God help us should we get a few injuries, especially to Hutchinson or Saunders because apart from them, we don't have any central defenders worthy of the name. This could well be a long season for us and I think a relegation battle is on the horizon.
-
Come on, if you're going to make snide, uncalled for remarks then at least attempt to make them a bit original. Amazing how some folk just can't resist turning the thread round to their insecurities about Rangers - God rest their soul -, even when the thread is discussing what is quite a big issue for our own club. I find it slightly worrying that our vice chairman has stepped down, at this time, and especially just after the board has threatned that we could be forced into administration in the near future as a result of the loss of Rangers to the SPL and I'm sure I'm not the only one either. Now who knows, maybe I'm worrying about nothing, but until I know that this is nothing then I'm going to have a bit of concern about this.
-
Very concerning news. Something tells me there may be trouble ahead.
-
Don't.
-
Yeah right ye are pal, my poor hearts been fucking moligated.
-
I never believed that any of this would happen, but fair play to those that did and said that they did. I thought they were all talking pish based on sheer hope, but it all came true.
-
Course it doesn't look like a Rangers kit, I was just having a wee dig at those in our support who are terrified at us being likened to Rangers in any way whatsoever...us having a blue kit might be a bit much for them to handle.
