No chance. Even if we did keep our best 11 fit and somehow at the peak of their form, talk of splitting the Old Firm is way beyond what we should expect from this Motherwell team. Nae Clarkson, Porter, McCormack, Paterson, Hughes, Buzz, McLean, Lappin or O'Donnell either!

Clarky and Faddy will lead the line for Motherwell again in a few years time. I want to believe!

Unless we get in a few more (decent) players, I can't see it being anything other than a bottom 6 scrap. I'd settle for 7th place or at least comfortably out of any relegation battle. I'm absolutely desperate to get back to Hampden!

I don't know anyone that has a ticket yet, yet there most definately will be a full team there next Thursday. I fully expect the same size of crowd as was at the Llanelli "home" leg.

I think it's crazy talk to even be talking about Steau Bucharest or Upjest! We have to win by 2 clear goals next Wednesday and that is going to be far from easy!

That's how I feel also. With the greatest respect to the players, this is possibly the weakest Motherwell team most of us have ever seen. The history books may yet prove to show we lost this tie over two legs, but they won't register the extremely relevant mitigating circumstances surrounding the start to this season. Who knows how it will go.

I even went so far as to buy a bloody Slovakian flag at one point! He then appeared to chase the dollar rather than stick by the team who he had went on loan to, so as much as "that's football", fuck 'em.

I agree with what you agree with! As much as we certainly do need all those players, we may be doing extremely well to land all of them. I would be reasonably happy to start the season with a back four of Saunders, Craigan, Reynolds and Hammell. So a striker is an absolute must. A goalie might not go amiss either. I certainly am very intrigued to see what Gannons signings can do. Hopefully he's unearthed a couple of gems....with more to follow.

If this boy from Shrewsbury does sign, I may start to believe that myself. I certainly want to! Fingers crossed!

That's not to say I'm not worried right now. You're right though, we need the new players now in order for them to be given time to gell I was under the impression that selling Clarkson and Quinn would allow funds to be released to SPEED up the signing of new players. Is none of that money going to be re-invested in the squad (ie transfer fees being paid rather than just wages/loan deals)?

I'm a bit worried that we haven't signed anyone else yet. I still believe that as long as the signings are in place for the first game at erth, that's the main thing though.

Probably not. Every decent player has been allowed to leave or been sold.

Selling Clarkson and Quinn is suicide for me and no ammount of people telling me that "it had to be done" is gonna cut it. I just can't see it that way. The remaining "Motherwell" players sadly aren't going to cut it anymore for us in the SPL so we better hope that Gannon has a really sound plan.

I would say Killie have assets in Combe, Invincible, Fernandez and Taouil. Accies have McCarthur, McCarthy and Easton. Abderdeen have Mackie, Aluko, Mulgrew. EVERY team has sellable assets, and ones that have had more press than ours. Did the SFA not say they would meet the payments etc Setanta couldn't? Anyway....if Quinn simply had to be sold, then you'd think more effort would've been made to keep McLean?!

This "rollercoaster" pish does my head in! We've just sold arguably our best two players. Best of luck to Jim Gannon as without a decent chunk of Clarkson and Quinns transfers being re-invested in the squad it's gonna be worse than awful. The Setanta deal falling through affects everyone right? Where's the firesale from all the other clubs then? The same ones that hadn't already lost half their starting 11.

I think it's a certainty that he knew. To be honest I'm still a bit surprised Clarky and Quinn have been sold considering the major rebuilding needing done. Before they went at least it was major, now it's beyond anything I've ever seen at Motherwell!!!
