    Just A Thought

The biggest disapointment of Europe was the team that got us there wasn't the team that represented us when we played there.

    Sorry to hear that.

I just e-mailed the fud aswell. Darryl, You wrote, "Klimpl, Motherwell's sturdy Slovak midfielder, was so game he took time out from his battle with Brown to take on - or rather take out - Naylor in front of the dug-outs and was booked for his brutishness. It warmed the cockles of the locals. Mark McGhee dedicated his Sunday Herald column to the tempestuous relationship between a manager and the masses. As they wailed and shrieked at every perceived injustice from the pedantic Iain Brines, it was difficult to imagine a grumpier, more impertinent bunch of supporters in the SPL" Not sure what to make of this paragraph. If you were watching the game you would've noted that Klimpls alleged foul in front of the dugouts was nothing more than a shoulder charge and the Celtic benchs squealing resulted in the yellow card being shown. You failed to mention the shove on Klimpl by a member of Celtics bench, which if it had been the other way about you no doubt would've been screaming for him to be sent to the stand. "As we wailed and shrieked" - What would you have us do as the "greatest fans in the world" rolled into town? Surrender meekly and accept the biased inept refereeing? You missed in your report the assault on Craigan by JVoH, which Brines then gave the other way. You also missed the fly kick out that Nakamura had and the constant diving and cheating by McDonald. No wonder we were moaning! I find it astonishing in an allegedly impartial article that one set of supporters can be labled "the grumpiest and most impertinent" supporters in the league, yet the other lot who treated us to songs about the IRA and the death of Davie Cooper (again!) can pass without comment?! I'm sure you couldn't have failed to notice the police intevention needed in the Cooper Stand to break up the fighting amongst themselves as the game turned against them? But of course your article is only written to give the great unwashed masses the vindication their perceived grievancies are justified. Wouldn't want to affect the sales figures as I'm sure you are more than aware the backlash you would suffer if you even dreamt of labelling the Celtic fans "grumpy and inpertinent". Sorry the result didn't go your way. That's the Herald off my reading list also. But then I'm only a Motherwell fan so what does it matter what you print about us? An apparently inpertinent, grump, wailing and shrieking, Milo
  5. There always will be flashpoints outside the Cooper and East Stand while we continually give the Cooper to the scum. The police should either a) hold back the Fans in the Cooper for 10-15 minutes or b) have a massive presence outside after the game. Preferably both. I find it hilarious, and when I say hilarious I mean shocking, that there are hardly any police outside the East Stand/Cooper after the game. They just are not interested in doing anything remotely useful. They'll save their energy for have helicopters and horses escort a dozen 14 year olds down to Airbles train station after a St Mirren game though. Strathclyde police = workshy SHITEBAGS.
  6. At the Nancy home leg I sat in the South Stand to take advantage of the kids in for free deal. My friends and I have a massive 'Well flag that we often take to games and my friend suggested that I hang it over the first tier at half time and he would a photo of it. Surely no harm in that? As I attempted to do this, plod waded in and took great pleasure in telling me this wasn't going to be allowed. I explained that the Old Firms fans regulalry do this so what was the problem. He fobbed me off by saying this was his first game at Fir Park etc. Anyway, I located the head steward (Kenny someone?) and he explained that this never happens, and under no circumtances was I to be allowed to hang a flag over the tier, no matter how briefly. I asked why it was ok for the Old Firm to do this and he replied "I'll bet my salary they aren't allowed to do it". It was plain for anyone who was there today to see the two Celtic banners that hung permanently over the first tier today (one was a shitey Che Guevera one. Must have enjoyed the recent film?) and there were also at least 2 draped over at half time. So Kenny, if you ever read this, you are in short a liar and I look forward to receiving your salary. I accept cash, cheque, or paypal.

    Celtic Game

Would've taken a point before the game and I think we just about deserved it. I thought we cleared our lines well but certanily didn't create anything up front. Celtic obviously did have the majority of the play and also the best chances but Celtic team doesn't have that over the years really? Strachan and Lennon can dry their eyes and fuck off as far as I'm concerned. Brines cemented himself as the worst ref in the league. Obviously has taken his training from Tullyallan of how to look straight at an incident then give the decision the other way! Shoking ineptitude all day from the biggest shitebag bottler you're ever likely to see.

    Celtic Game

Difficult to see anything other than a Celtic win, but when you least expect a win against the Old Firm, that's often when you get it!!! I think we would have less chance of winning tomorrow if we had won on Thursday! If you know what I mean.
  9. I think you're being a bit harsh there. I'm glad McGhee has came out said he's very disappointed we lost. I'd be more upset if he was all philosophical and didn't seem that bothered as he has done over some other nasty defeats. Not that McGhee is not beyond criticism, but what hes said in the aftermath of the St Mirren cup exit has been fair enough in my opinion. What would you like him to say?
  10. Our record in the cups is embarrassing though. Fans have the right to be upset when every single year we got out of the competition meekly to beatable teams. Not just this Motherwell team though, every single one since we won the cup has been eliminated with a whimper against opposition that we really should be beating.
  11. Not over by a long stretch, but it's going to be a tall order and I don't think we have enough quality in the squad to achieve 3rd or 4th. 5th would be entirely satisfactory and I believe would probably be enough to get back in the UEFA Cup?, but even getting in the top 6 is going to require winning games we wouldn't be expected to. The only thing that has softened the blow of last nights cup exit is Celtic would almost have certainly put us out in the next round. Had we had a non-Old Firm team awaiting us in the Quarters then I think the disppointment would be increased x 100 at the missed opportunity to get back to Hampden.
  12. You could apply that to yourself.
  13. After checking the history books, it would appear that limping badly out of the cup with not much fight has been rife every year since the year we won it!! Only the following year as holders when we got beat 2-1 at Ibrox with O'Donnell scoring a cracker could we say we gave everything we got before getting put out. 1993 - Rangers 2-0 at Fir Park. Opening of the south stand and out played. At least it was a "big team". 1994 - Dundee Utd 1-0 at Fir Park. After going to the trouble of beating Celtic in the 3rd round and taking the first Utd game to a replay thanks to a Philliben last minute equaliser, we couldn't come up with the goods on what was the last time the Cooper end terracing with packed with Well fans. 1995 - Hibs 2-0 at Easter Road. Another disapointment as a decent Well team go out in a year we felt we could go further. At least Hibs were half decent that season and we did have 2 men sent off! 1996 - Aberdeen 2-0 at Fir Park. This was a poor Motherwell team and even although Aberdeen weren't any better, I didn't get my hopes up. 1997 - Dundee Utd 4-1 at Tannadice. After a good win over Thistle and Accies taking us to a replay we were hammered by a decent Utd side in the quarters. 1998 - Rangers 3-0 at Ibrox. The last time we met either of the big two in the earlier rounds, which makes our non existant cup runs even more galling. We would've beat them aswell if Woods hadn't chosen the first game to make his worst ever mistake in a Motherwell jersey to help Durie make it 2-2. Pumped in the replay but no disgrace really. Dumbarton took us to a replay in the 3rd round also! 1999 St Johnstone 2-0 at Fir Park. We beat Hearts 3-1 in what was one of the best games I've ever been too and after 2 or 3 false starts got past Stirling Albion only to be undone in a very disapointing game. 2000 Ayr Utd 4-3 at Fir Park. A game that still gives me nightmares!! Our highly paid team couldn't even negotiate past a 1st Division Ayr side with a then 2nd Division Partick Thistle awaiting the winners in the quarters. Simply awful. 2001 Dundee Utd 2-0 at Fir Park. I think we only had 1 center half available for this game due to injury and suspension. At least we managed to beat St Mirren in the previous round! 2002 Dumfermline 3-0 at East End Park. Nuff said. 2003 - Rangers 4-3 at Hampden. The exception to every other year. A glorious run and fanstastic performance on the day meant we could leave Hampden gutted but with our heads held high. 2004 - Inverness 1-0 at Fir Park. Gorodn Marshall beaten with a speculative shot from 40 yards. very disapointing. 2005 - Kilmarnock 2-0 at Rugby Park. Just didn't turn up. 2006 - St Mirren 3- 0 at Love Street. An embarrassing gubbing by a then 1st Division team. 2007 - 2-1 St Johnstone at Fir Park. One of the worst performances I can remember seeing from a Motherwell team. With the semi finals at stake aswell. 2008 - Dundee 2-1 at Fir Park. Out to another 1st Division team. I think we blamed the pitch for this one. 2009 - St Mirren 1-0. Don't have to explain this one....

    Jamie Murphy

I'd like to see Murphy featuring a bit more. He can at least beat a man and bring something new to the team. I'm not saying he's the messiah, but it's got to be worth a try when the guys in the starting 11 he could potentially be coming on for aren't offering anything, what have we got to lose?

    Goals

We needed to re-invest the monay received for Porter in another striker. We haven't and we will suffer accordingly. Sheridan isn't the answer, lthough he may do well enough in spells. Our final ball is very poor and even wehn it isn't we don't have the men in the middle who can put these chances away. Richie Foran could've done another job for us.
  16. Just back in. Well that was absolutely utterly fucking atrocious from start to finish. And with a very decent travelling support given nothing to get excited about. Once again we go out the cup to beatable opposition without even so much as a whimper. Should we have expected any better though? We have only beat St Mirren 3 times in a whopping 14 attempts!!!! Our cup exits now are the stuff nightmares are made of. St Mirren, 1st Div Dundee, 1st Div St Johnstone, 1st Div St Mirren, 1st Div ICT. Fucking embarrassing. I don't know if I'd give pass marks to any players tonight and although he in no shape or form cost us the game, Fitzy offers nothing whatsoever. He should be nowhere near our starting 11 ever again. Subs were brought on far too late. I'm glad McGhee (on the BBC) acknowledges that we were pish tonight as anything else would enraged me a great deal. On a excellent pitch (the only decent thing about that shite soul less tin can monstrosity of a ground) aswell, so there's the theory OUR pitch is holding us back out the window. We have been on an excellent run to be fair, but that tonight was totally insipid, spineless, gutless and any other adjective you care to throw in there.
  17. Really up for this tonight. By the sounds of it we'll be taking over 1,000 'Well fans which considering it's midweek, on sky, and all ticket, ain't too shabby! Quite nervous all the same. I predicted a narrow Accies win on Saturday and was delighted to be proved wrong. Tonight however, I feel the circumstances point towards a narrow Motherwell win!!!! So I've now got myself worried!!! If we play to the best of our abilities then I feel we'll have too much for them. You'd like to think that on a decent pitch we're a much better footballing team also.
  18. That's a rant I'd be proud of!
  19. Steady now. I nearly gave myself a hernia laughing at that!! Police prevent crime? I'll crack the funnies! But aye, excellent post. Totally agree.
  20. As someone said, is there really any referee that wouldn't prompt an "Aw naw" response?!? That said, this guy is an absolute joke. I've stated before, so no need to go into detail again, his , ahem, and I use the term loosely, "day job" is a polis and the two "professions" are perfectly suited.

    V Accies

Think you need to go and look these terms up. When did these incidents happen exactly? Are you Hugh Keevins?

    Clarky - 50 Up!

Delighted for him. Good guy. Can't imagine Clarky in another teams colours.
  23. I found myself agreeing with McGhees comments to a degree but a blind man could see we weren't playing 4-3-3 last Saturday. Even if it was, there was only 1 recognised forward on with Hughes playing wide left! If he believed that formation was the correct way to go then why did he change it at half time? The fans weren't boo'ing the players last week in the first half, they were voicing their displeasure at the ridiculous ineffective formation, that until chnaged, was sending us out the cup!! However, the tone of his piece is spot on though. I think as fans, we have to get behind the team more and that moaning about poor control or individual mistakes will help no-one.

    V Accies

I thought the abuse he got yesterday was pretty much non existent. There has been much worse abuse dished out to players for bad tackles etc over the years and relentless boo'ing of Neil "poor wee angel" Lennon etc that hasn't attracted any attention. How white Scotsmen boo'ing a white Scotsman possibly be construed as racist is beyond me!!! But I'd rather we just didn't bother as the powers will have no qualms dragging Motherwells name through the mud as oppossed to taking on the Old Firm, regardless of it being a non-story or not. Not that it's the same thing but didn't the Celtic fans boo George O'Boyle the Northern Irish St Johnstone players every touch back in the day? Why was that again? We all know why. And what was said? Nothing.
  25. I think everyone is in agreement. Pretty poor and very fortunate to be 1 up at half-time, but did a lot better in the 2nd half and I'm absolutely delighted with the 3 points. As much as we're on a great run aswell, it was a huge ask to beat a team that had just won 6 on the bounce and although we rode our luck at times, we shouldv'e pumped Falkirk and Hibs and couldn't get the goal our play merited, so yesterday evened that up for me. Get it up them!
