Where has this Pearo rumour came from? Can't see it myself. Is he even fit and playing? I think Pearo got the most hostile recption I've ever heard a player get at Fir Park. I admit I boo'ed him till my throat was hoarse, but looking back, we were all a bit over the top. I would take him back in a heart beat though. Time is a great healer, and with hindsight, I believe it was his agent that badly advised him. But there you have it, that's just how strong our feelings are when Celtic pince our young players for pennies.

Regardless of your opinion of him, Boabs goading of the Hibs fans simply by looking at them in the warm up was superb! The more he looked at them, and the more they repsonded, the wider his smile got! Fantastic!

Just back from the game. I think it would be fair to say we played them off the park and would've been a travesty if we had left with nothing. Every player on the park contributed a lot and I thought Clarkson was immense. The final ball let us down on a few occassions, but some bad luck or a lucky deflection denied us aswell and it looked like it would be one of those days. Hard to say whether Sutton will fill Porters boots, will need to give him a few games to find his feet. Looked like quite a bad miss from Murphy when Clarky cut it back. I thought McCurry had a shocker (when does he not?) Missed, or ignored late tackles on Klimpl, Clarkson and O'Brien and seemed quite content to let Jones barge Murphy and anyone else who tried to run by him to the ground without any attempt to play the ball. The pitch was a shocker aswell. I wouldn't say it was 2 points dropped but we definately should've won, and add that to last week, we should be several points better off in the league.

Well done, that's yer first post, you signed up to say that? Look forward to further contributions. No-ones happy to say goodbye to Porter, but like McDonald, McFadden, and McCormack before him (how good would that team have been?!) there's an inevitability to him leaving. Lasley leaving would be a bit of a shock. People are shocked and are commenting so.
-
If we sell Lasley I'd be tempted to hand my season ticket back in right away. Selling Porter is one thing, that's unavoidable. We already know that non of the money will be re-invested in players. Our squad is too small to be selling key players willy nilly. If someone comes in with a bid for McGarry, Malcolm, or D.Smith, maybe fair enough.
-
It's a fair point though. Our starting 11 is good in my opinion, but you need more than 11 players to make it through a season. Look how terible we were just before Christmas with a few of them out? It's entirely possible that's going to happen again and we take 1 point from 21! The run fucked our season, I don't want to think what another run like that could do! If Porter goes and we get decent money for him, we're now being told none of that will be re-invested in the squad. I think that's a bit of a joke. The money from Faddys sell on clause, the money from McDonald, the compensation money from McCormack, the money from Paterson, the 3rd place finish, the Euro ties, the continual giving of the Cooper stand to the Old Firm. All of these have been extra money that we wouldn't have budgeted for and STILL we apparently don't have two brass farthing to rub together!!! We re told that Motherwell every year budget for 11th place and going out the cup in the 3rd round. Anything else is a bonus. Something is seriously amiss folks.

Poor show if we allow Lasley to leave, like someone else said, I'd rather lose Hughes. Hope this isn't true. Nae Lalsey, nae Porter, money coming in but apparently none available for bringing anyone in!! Are we really that skint? If so, staying up should and could be all we should ever aim for. Pish times.
-
Can only echo the sentiments of everyone else. Absolutely gutted but was always on the cards. I'll be astonished if the fee is re-invested in the squad though. But that is a decent fee. Throughout all the transfer speculation Porter conducted himself very proffesionally and leaves with my best wishes. (As for Scott McDonald. A fantastic Motherwell player. Easily one of the best I've seen in my lifetime but he showed himself for what he was on his return to Fir Park by pointing at the mhanky Celtic badge on his strip to the East Stand after he scored. He has also managed to successfully ignore the fact he ever played for Motherwell)
-
We only got 250k for Stepover and Hammell cost about 110k I believe. Paterson turned out to be a revelation at fullback for us, but it was a bit of a fluke. To me we didn't know a good thing until it was gone when Hammell left as wee Murphy was rotten. Hammell has had his ups and downs, as everyone in our team will do, but like everyone else has been playing well lately. We are Motherwell remember. Anyone who is truly outstanding above and beyond the call week in week out doesn't stay with us for long!

In other words, just like the referees, the journalists are shitebags aswell?
-
All the press reports I've read today absolve Falkirk from any wrong doing pretty much aswell, and are, by and large, written from their point of view. There's no point in reading the papers. None of the jounalists are interested in reporting the truth, every single story has a spin/glarying omissions from it. What we really need is a journalist who's going to come out and say "So Hughes, your were greeting like fuck last week over some decisions you felt went against you, so let's see you defend your tactics and your thug like players today? You got away murder from start to finish today. Discuss"
-
The whole team has been playing a lot better in the last few games including Reynolds. Of course he makes some mistakes, what player doesn't, but generally his form in the last 5 games his been pretty good.
-
Can't believe the glarying omission of those horror tackles. How could any editor look at that game and deem those incidents not worty of inclusion is beyond me. I'm still raging about them!! There was hee haw said about McNamara's stamp on Jim Hamilton a while back either. They looked like a team of total cloggers. It think Fitzys and Porter misses are bothe pretty bad to be honest. I don't blame either of them as Porters been excellent later and Fitzys been working hard, but they should've been buried!
-
One of the dirtiest teams I've ever seen. But the ref allowed them to do it. Utter shitebag, they really do deserve all the criticism they get, and then some. He seemed content to let the challenges get worse and worse and even with the stretcher coimg on several times, still didn't clamp down on anything! The Barr challenge and McBride (who is an utter scumbag) were straight reds. Unbelievable. Having said that, the ref didn't make Fitzy miss sitter of the season. Unforgivable really. The O'Brien effort that came off the bar was really unlucky, Porter should've done better, considering the goalie didn't get a touch. In the end, same old, same old from Mothewell. After hammering a good side away from home, we were't able to beat a shite Falkirk at home. I've seen it all before. Very frustrating as we were the only team out there.
-
We've hit a bit of form in the last few games and on the back of that outstanding result away at Tannadice, we're now at home to Falkirk who are one point of bottom. A guranteed home win you would think? This is Motherwell we're talking about though and as we all know it's NEVER that straight forward. Obviously really hoping for a win, but I'm quite nervous about games where the concensus it we're expected to win. On paper, I think Falkirk have some excellent players, but it's just not been happening for them. IU've no idea what the score will be, but a Falkirk win would be a disaster!
-
I think Clarky is one of our most important players. Certainly in the top 3. He was magic last season, but let's be honest, murder under Malpas and not too hot for a couple of seasons under Butcher aswell. Probably my favourite player though. Hope he can keep it up!
-
In order to keep Klimpl it would be well worth selling/punting Boab and McGarry.
-
I don't know how you can say the fans cost us the league in 1994. That's just complete bullshit and based on nothing. I think it would be fair to say none of us believed we could do it, but that's fair enough, we need to be realistic. We had too many draws that season also, plus taking only 1 point from the remaining 3 games, which were totally winnable. Maybe the bottle did go, who knows.... certainly a case of "what could've been". As for this season, I'm taking one game at a time and we'll see how it goes. For me, I'm just glad there's a bit of a gap opened up between us and bottom place as at Christmas we were in freefall! Prior to that the season had been very poor aswell in my opinion, with only the Rangers 0-0 game and the Dundee Utd 1-1 game being the only two games where I thought we played the football we all hoped we would this season. In the rest we had been average. At best! We appear to have hit a bit of form just now, and that result yesterday is easily one of the best in years. Especially considering neither of the Old Firm have beaten Utd in 4 attempts and they have been receiving the plaudits left right and centre thus far and rightly so. So to conclude. I'm as delighted as the next 'Well fan at the mini revival we appear to be on, but let's keep the heid. After the Rangers 0-0 game we all felt we had a chance to kick on from there after our slow start and we then proceeded to go on as wretched a run as I can remember. The worst thing we can do is go into games now expecting to win them. Having said that. I do expect to win on Wednesday and will be pretty disappointed with anything other than a win next Saturday!

I hear you, and have been at every semi final, and replay, we've been in since the 1985 1-1 draw with Celtic. Painful as they are to lose, I'd rather get there and lose, than get put out by Ayr in the 4th round knowing we had a 2nd Divison Partick Thistle in the Quarters at Fir Park ala 2000 etc.....
-
Ahhhh... so we did. I wasn't there though!!!
-
I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of the big two jobbies came in with a derisory bid at the 11th hour.
-
Snap. In fact, I haven't even seen Motherwell score a goal away from home since the opener at Tynecastle!!! (I think we've only scored at Ibrox and Easter Road away from home before today, apart from Tynecastle, and I wasn't at either of them)
-
I don't bloody believe this! I'm in the library at Uni studying for an exam and had turned my phone of to concentrate!!! Different gravy. Hope we can hang on!!!
-
Motherwells cup tradition is "what could've been" for as many years as I can remember. Dundee, ICT, St Mirren and St Johnstone in recent years were absolute debacles. Ayr back in 2000 was another one. Semi finals are difficult to get to and are to be savoured. If only we could beat the alleged "easy" teams we would've been to a few more.
-
Tough draw. No chickens being counted here. Typical Old Firm getting easy draws again. Although St Johnstone away in the 3rd round is certainly not something I would've been confident about for us.
