Strange team. Ciftci, Hartley and Cadden all on the bench. Im, bizarrely, hoping Hartley might still be carrying a knock as not starting him, for me, is a really bad call. However, if hes carrying a knock and resting him as the rest of the defence is playing well it makes perfect sense not risking him. I dont think Ciftci is fully fit but will probably feature at some point. Not sure whats up with Cadden.

If the plan is to shitfest the game and introduce Tanner later then I can see the logic in that. It wouldnt be my choice but here we are. If Hartley still isnt fully fit then I can also see the logic in that. However, if Hartley is fit and not playing then its absolute insanity. Hes easily our best defender and I cant be the only one who would like to see a Dunne-free defence. For many, including me, Tanner was the only bright spot of December so its disappointing to see him dropped for players with only a fraction of his ability.

My friend has just pointed out that neither Ciftci nor Main are likely to last beyond the 65/70 minute mark so that might be the time to introduce Tanner which could be fair enough.

Those are good points. For me, you need to give a player 60/70 minutes for 6, 7, 8 games in order to give him a chance and see what he can do. Fisher never got that. Im not saying he wouldve been a prolific scorer but Im not sure we used him right or gave him a chance.

Tynecastle is always a tough fixture (although we won 4/5 games there from 2010/2013 Im sure?) but even more so at the moment with the ridiculous run Hearts are on. 8 games without conceding a goal is mental! At least Hartley and Tait will be back. Would bite your hand off for a draw but well need to play significantly better than on Wednesday to even get close.

A must win game and absolutely massive 3 points. That was the main thing. I thought all the new signings looked decent enough and should improve the team. Main in particular. Whether hell hit the heights of Louis Moult remains to be seen but I was certainly impressed enough with his play. However..... Absolute kick and rush stuff for most of the game. Awful to watch and not particularly effective either. The ball spent most of the time in the air and passing and basic ball retention was awful with Dunne in particular being unable to execute even the simplest of passes. Ciftci and Tanner are the guys that are going to make things happen in this team so we have to find a way to get them on the ball more, preferably to their feet. As I said, the main thing is we got the 3 points, but against the better teams those tactics just wont do. Although in fairness to Robinson he did concede we didnt play well.

Its by no means certain, but fairly likely, that well lose the 2 games after this at Easter Road and Tynecastle so the need to win this, especially after Decembers horrendous form, is essential.
