That's it in a nutshell.

We're a lost cause. That's a absolutely shocking result considering what's at stake. Players are a disgrace, have been all season, and I'm starting to think Robinson was not the right appointment. Maybe we should've given the job to Pat Bonner or Steven Thompson or any other pundit?....

Clay on for McDonald? Jesus Christ!

Pumped at home by a team that has just lost 7 on the bounce with a rookie manager taking his first game? Bravo to all involved at Motherwell.
-
Samson Hammell Heneghan McHugh Cadden Frear Lasley Campbell Bowman Moult McDonald

I think that's the best team we could field to be honest. Not often I've said that! No sign of Pearo.

Haven't actually given this game too much thought, the joys of going into a football free weekend, but now time to get up for it. Goes without saying that a win here would put us in a really strong position, and a defeat, especially if results elsewhere go against us, could leave us staring into the abyss. Surely Campbell will retain his place? Will McCann have had any positive impact on Dundee? Even if he has, losing to a complete rookie in charge of a team that have just lost 7 in a row wouldn't be good to say the least, but bad runs don't last forever and we haven't won 2 in a row all season! Honestly have no idea how this will pan out!

Massive massive 3 points so that's all that matters in the end. I could pick holes in the performance till the cows come home but there were a few really good aspects including Campbell's performance and notable contributions from Moult, McDonald, Frear and McHugh. Good to just enjoy the win for now and will post a more substantial analysis later.

Only time I've seen Clay looking anywhere near approaching competent was in the 4-1 win v Ross County. Him and Lucas in the middle that day. Would be interesting to know what has happened with Lucas. -
Capt_Oats posted this on Pie and bovril. Just to cheer everyone up of course!! "We've played 8 games at home since our last win at Fir Park (2-0 vs Thistle): Celtic (3-4), Killie (0-0), Rangers (0-2), Hearts (0-3), Dundee (1-5 LOL), Aberdeen (1-3), St Johnstone (1-2 obviously) and Accies 0-0. So since the Celtic game, which was the last game we managed to score 1st at home, we've only scored 3 in 8. Fucking hell." Fucking hell indeed! 3 goals in 8 games at home?!?! That's just plain embarrassing!

Everyone pre-match thoughts are becoming more brief. We're fast approaching last chance saloon, if we haven't arrived already. If we don't win this then the baw is burst for a variety of reasons but one of them being it will have meant we have taken only 2 or 3 points from 18. No wonder we've slowly but surely dropped positions in the league.... Hopefully Moult is back, hopefully Clay, Blyth and Pearo are nowhere near the starting 11and hopefully it's been realised the hoofball isn't working.

The jury is still out on Robinson for me but a few things are undeniable. 2 points in his defence, 1) A cursory glance at the results alone show that since he took over the games have been very close and when we've lost its only been by the odd goal. 2) He has inherited possibly the worst collection of players anyone can ever remember seeing represent Motherwell. However.... 1) Anyone who has been at the two most recent games will tell you of the horrendous style of ineffective hoofball we have adopted. Truly hit and hope stuff. 2) There has been no turnaround in results, we're not scoring goals and our league position is now significantly worse off than when he took over. I don't know what his contract situation is but I'm not sure I would want him to stay on if we go down. The same goes for those at board level who have yet to appoint a good manager in 3 attempts and rubber stamped the signings of the duds currently filling our squad.

McDonald for me. Would probably be relegated already if it wasn't for him and Moult. Notable mentions to Lasley and Ainsworth who's introduction at least made us competitive in the 2nd half. Both surely start next week.

2nd half was a marked improvement on the first but that's not saying much. Atrocious set up and individual performances from most. Lasley and Ainsworth made a difference or maybe it was Clay going off? I've been banging on about how bad he is for months. It's beyond a joke he starts most weeks. 2 massive relegation games and 0 goals scored and never really looked like it either. You can tell how this is going to end sadly. -
We needed 6 points, a bare minimum of 4 points, from the Accies, thistle and Inverness games. I can see us getting only 1 or 2. I think we'll go into the split joint 12th.

Indeed. He has a shot like a cannon and has scored some truly wonderful goals for us. Anywhere from 20 yards out and he should be hitting it. -
Indeed. Isn't that incredible?

Can't see past anything other than a convincing home win here as Thistle are on an excellent run playing with confidence and we are dug meat. More so if Moult isn't playing. I'd have Pearo, Clay and Blyth nowhere near the starting 11. Failure to win last night, along with the 0-0 draws at home v Killie and Dundee to mention but 2 are really going to come back to haunt us I fear. Even in a "law or averages" scenario should see us winning even one of those but it just underlines how inept we've been ALL season. -

We're a team comprising of entirely uninspiring and/or woefully inadequate players and as someone above pointed out if we persist with the tactic of Heneghan shelling diagonal balls into the box then it really is a lottery as to whether we stay up. The few good players we do have are too inconsistent and when one of thems missing we just can't function. It's been the same all season. It's been a season which in effect has just been one continuous terrible run of form. Quite an achievement. Bowman for all he might have something isn't very good in the air. Yet he was who was being aimed for with everyone of Heneghsans punts. Still it made more sense than launching it at Ainsworth, McDonald, Frear and Cadden, but that's not to say that that still didn't happen! I would be dropping Pearo for the game on Saturday. He was utterly abysmal. I'm no fan of Clay. He's been a mainstay in our midfield all season which may go a long way explaining why we are where we are. He offers nothing. Can't pass, can't shoot, can't create, no pace and can't even get stuck in, but was still better than Pearo! If Lucas has dropped off the face of the earth then as someone above said, it has to be Lasley and Csmpbell in the centre. Special mention to Blyth though. WOW! Another belter from McGhee. Accies finished the game with their best 2 players off the park and down to 10 men and our tactics still didn't change. I don't think we're getting out of this one.
