You would've liked to have thought that the days of playing Fraser Kerr at right mid/wing back were over. Apparently not.... I'm sure McCall said himself that he doesn't think he's very good with the ball at his feet?!?!? Yet is deployed to bomb forward....with the ball at his feet!!!!

Situation is beyond critical, it was critical 4 games ago. We're now in full blown crisis mode. The writing has been on the wall since game 1 though. 4 points in the next 2 games or he has to go. The players and management have had 14 games now to show there is light at the end of the tunnel and still nothing. Not even a hint. There has to be affirmative action before the situation becomes irretrievable. 0 points in the next 2 games and we more than likely will be bottom.

We surely need to go 4-2-3-1?!?! Front 4 of Erwin Ojamaa Vigurs Ainsworth
-
The formation might just have worked but some of the players picked to start crawed it. Josh Law shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. Sutton has done nothing all season and Ramsden and McManus have seemingly downed tools. With no obvious left sided midfielder I the team our only options in that area of the pitch are Vigurs or Angol. Erwin, Ainsworth and possibly Thomas (although we may never know) could've improved that starting 11 ten fold. It's almost as if McCall is trying to make it difficult for himself! (And us!)
-
So was Vigurs injured? I know he's been hot and cold but no Ainsworth till 4 minutes to go?!?? Really?!?! Yet Sutton contributed nothing again and completes the 90!!!

The writing has been on the wall that we were in serious trouble this season as early as the Stjarnan games. Every subsequent game has only further strengthened this belief. Fans of other clubs I know can't understand how we can go from 3rd, to 2nd, to 2nd to 11th!!! It's the most embarrassing collapse of any team I've ever seen. Surely even the happiest of clappers now appreciate the gravity of our predicament now?
-
Those stats don't surprise me one bit Ya Beezer. This season has been garbage on a level not seen in many a day.
-
Holy fuck! I have literally no idea what formation we're playing and who is playing where! What's up with Vigurs?
-
Have hardly thought about the game tonight to be honest. Punch drunk with the shite we've consistently produced in every game this season. I hope against hope that we might finally see some sort of reaction but we said that last week. And the week before. And the week before etc..... 6 years since Aberdeen beat us at Pittodrie and only once in the league at Fir Park in that time also. Incredible run. Totally owned them for years. Completely convinced that run will end tonight though. Would bite yer hand off for a draw and a performance remotely resembling any sort of purpose. Or even a draw in which our goal is completely under siege for 90 minutes!!

A front 4 (deployed in the way Dundee Utd use theirs) of Ojamaa, Ainsworth, Vigurs and Erwin has so much potential. Surely we've got to try that?!?! A 4-4-2 and shelling the ball at Sutton is completely ineffective and is brutal and infuriating to watch! We need to find a way of making Vigurs especially more effective as he has undoubted ability. Perhaps as a second striker or number 10? Or the way Harkins is used for Dundee? Left (and especially right) midfield hasn't worked for him or the team and yet he's more often than not being played there as McCall has seen fit not to sign a left midfielder 2 seasons running for some reason.....

Just realised St Mirren play Ross County this weekend so any one of the various outcomes possible from that fixture makes it even worse for us.

Maybe we can't afford to sack McCall but the time is fast approaching when we can't afford NOT to sack him. Relegation would be armageddon for Motherwell. I like McCall. I want to continue to like him, but I also like to see Motherwell not not look up for it after 1 game....and 13 games later look worse than ever with not even the slightest signs of any discernible plan. The players look to have chucked it after the Stjarnan debacle and we haven't had a response yet. Our previous 2 games have been against teams who hadn't won in 5 and/had lost 4 on the bounce and beat us with their key players missing and makeshift teams with great ease. The correct areas on the team needing strengthened have been neglected for 2 summers running and the option to sign a former favourite player was incredibly passed up on only for him to prove to McCall exactly what he's passed up on in some style on Saturday. That one will stick in the craw for many a day. Not signing Clarkson (yet signing Josh Law) is a major nail McCalls coffin for me. The fans are getting extremely worried and concerned at the utter keech we have been served up for 13 games running that now sees the club sitting in an extremely precarious position. The back four on Saturday (which boasts a former Celtic and Scotland captain) was as bad as anything I've ever seen at any level in football. We've a right to ask questions.
-
If you're brave enough to watch the highlights, the defending for the goals looks even worse than it did at the time. The 3rd in particular.
-
Wouldn't be keeping a single one of those players out of contract in the summer.
-
If everyone is fit then the back 4 should be Reid, Kerr, O'Brien, Hammell. McManus and Ramsden should be nowhere near the starting 11 based on the form they have shown this season.
-
Well McCall decided to give McManus another 2 year deal so there's only one person to blame.
-
Excellent post Kmac.
-
I'm half serious here, when do the protests start to save our club then?
-
This. Worst Motherwell team I've seen since I started going to the games in 1984, and getting worse by the week.
-
When was the last time a premier league side looked this bad right from the very first game and 12 games later still hadn't shown even the remotest signs of recovery?
-
Maybe we can't afford to sack him, but in order to save ourselves from relegation then perhaps we can't not afford to sack him? The senior players and indeed all the players need to take some responsibility but having seen Clarkson play so well today, and Clarkson wanting to play for us, after McCall stating how he wasn't what we were looking for etc has sickened me to the pit of my stomach and really got me wondering how McCall can knock Clarky back yet sign Josh Law?!?! It just beggars belief. The lack of response and capitulation v Thistle and then today sees us at 13 games into a season and no closer to piecing together a coherent performance than we were after game 1 v Stjsrnan. This is just a "bad run" and more than enough games have passed in order to see some sort of improvement.
-
Clarkson looked like the clarkson we last seen in a motherwell strip. Scored one, set another up, pulled defenders about, held the ball up, played players in, switched the play, was brave, had a great dummy at one point.....but apparently that's not what McCall is looking for?!?? I'm sorry but McCalls stunningly poor judgement here should be the final nail in his coffin. Sadly if anyone new does come in he will only inherit the players McCall DID deem worthy of signing.
-
If we don't see a response tomorrow then the last person to leave should turn out the lights.
-
According to McCall in the press conference we have several players out with injury tomorrow. 2 weeks since a game n'aw....
