Wark Pettigrew Graham Cooper McFadden Quite simply Pettigrew without Graham, was like eggs without bacon. Not a front two to touch them - telepathic it was. The others speak for themselves.
-
Sad news indeed - one of the few who genuinely deserve the accolade 'Legend'.

How old are you? Do you even remember the old League Cup Sections? It was a competition dying on its feet, and failing attendances were the reason for its demise. What has changed in the last 30 years to think that it should be included as part of the blueprint for the future. Still the same mediocre teams, playing mediocre football to the same audience. Boy if anything was going to galvanise the public out of their armchairs into football grounds again it was always going to be the reintroduction of the League Cup in sections If this is the extent of our thinking for the future I really do despair for the game.

Afraid it didn't quite come off for the U13s this morning. The youngsters cantered into a quick 2 goal lead by half-time. However after the break the display became edgy and the girls started to look nervous, perhaps not surprising given what was at stake, they surrendered the 2 goal lead, took the lead again, courtesy of the 'well no6's 50th goal of the campaign, but tired toward the end Falkirk scoring twice in quick succession to secure the win - Full-Time 3-4 in favour of the visitors. Disappointing for the girls as the race for the title is now out of their hands. They can still win but have to rely on other results going their way. Good luck girls and keep the heads up. A great result for the 15's in their Scottish Cup semi-final at Toryglen, beating Forfar 4-1. Mind and let us know when the Final is Angie.

Good luck to all the teams. C'mon the 13's - "It's just like watching Brazil".
-
Only 1 win now to win the league after a comfortable 2-0 victory at Grangemouth this morning against Falkirk Futures. Roll on next week against Falkirk Academy and retention of the League crown.

Poor memory or perhaps too much moonshine - East Stand has been seated since immediately after the 1991 cup win.

Ah so you don't know it was Masonic - just a guess - seems reasonable (NOT). He might even be a member of one of the Loyal Orders - Oh dear might it really have been an 'Orange' handshake - heaven forbid. The point is that unless your a member of either of these organisations its unlikely you would know the handshake if it slapped you in the face. Why has it taken so long for this to surface. Did your guests really wait this long to be offended? He waited 'one minute' to antagonise your guests, yet you waited nearly 5 weeks after the event to publicly address this. Have you brought this to the attention of the Club Officials? I smell shite.

This goes way back beyond the 'Casual' scene (Hearts didn't even have a firm) - This was to do with the 'Gorgie', possibly the fiercest set of fans (including the OF who only really mattered because of their numbers) ever!. The scene, inside the ground and outside the the civic after these early 1970's games resembled a war zone. Remember standing in the enclosure in the front of the stand in a Texaco Cup game, early 70's - think a certain Jim McCabe scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win that night - and watched in awe as the battle raged in the shed. Cue the Police dog handlers - even they didn't go in - just let the dogs off the leash to do their stuff. I counted 48 arrested that evening as they were brought directly across the pitch and down the tunnel. Usually those arrested were paraded around the perimeter track, not that night, it was obviously the quickest way to get them out the ground and try and restore order. No in those days you didn't mess with the 'Gorgie'. FHW.

2 great results for both the 13's and 15's well done again, particluarly to the Dream Team (F&G - keep it going lads). The girls top-scorer has 43 - yes 43 goals - so far this season, its costing her Grandpa a fortune in win bonuses Check out this video and the goal in the first couple of seconds from Motherwell's No6 - http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/swf/scottish_f...amp;newsID=6181

FFS he struggles to make into the box from advance positions (ie 2 feet outside the 18 yard line).
-
Very - we'd probably get put out by Brechin
-
A nice man - my thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

LOL yeah I'll pick up my Season Ticket at £280, but you just hold-off and pay what you like - good one. Give up the odd away game and you might just be able to afford a season - after all MFC make nothing from your away support.
-
We had this in Nancy as well - "85 arrested" was the figure quoted on the morning of the match (allegedly in the Daily Record) - actual figures - 'nil' - pinch of salt time.

Maxywell With an attitude and business accumen like that is more likely to 'make' you a fiver

Easy solved, next time we just withdraw from the competition, that way all the moaners on here can save their pennies for ICT and Hamilton. Making choices within a budget is not something new, though to listen to some of you you would think it was. Make your choices - its obvious that very few of us has the money to do everything we want - sacrifice something - be it a packet of fags or the couple of pints before the Hibs game, and there you have the extra fiver. It doesn't matter what the club does at the moment, this forum has just become a place for one big moan - and I include myself in that.
-
Nope we didn't - at least according to this archive we didn't - http://scottish-football-historical-archiv...erveleague5.htm Infamous - Youth teams aren't a recent innovation, Motherwell have had one in one form or another for at least the last 30 years. The period I was referring to may have been prior to the 'Coop' era, but did take place, because there was no organised youth league for professional teams at that time and our entry to that league allowed the team to play together on a regular basis. At that time the players, although registered to Motherwell played for different teams throughout the country on a Saturday. Reserve League West games were played on a Monday night - watched a young Scott Leitch/Stevie Bryce inspired 10-0 demolition of QOS in that competition at Bellshill in 86-87
-
Don't think we withdrew from the Main league - but played the u19's/youths in the Reserve League West - used to play their games at Bellshill astroturf , sure it was behind Bellshill baths.

Didn't advocate scrapping the League Cup (its one of only 2 trophies we can realistically win) - it was the format I was referring to. None of the formats (league, knock-out) have been particularly successfull and the League Cup has never really been seen as anything other than a nuisance since they took away the Europe Qualification for the winners. Keep it as it is. Would love to see a Texaco Cup type competition re-emerge, but like steelboy says the waning popularity of the FA Cup and teams indifference to it would mean its was non-starter.
-
3: Yeah lets reintroduce the League Cup to a format which died on its feet back in the 70's. Whilst padding out the season to make up for the loss of games (and obviously revenue), it would make up for nothing in terms of entertainment/attraction value. If anything the competition is more attractive in its current format, than going back to a 'Champions League Group Format' - dress it up how you want Champions League (Spin) - its still the same teams producing the same fair. Been going to football now for over 40 years, there's 3 fundamental things killing the game, Money, TV and Coaches. All 3 are stifling the game in its present format. And lets not believe its just here that the problem lies its worldwide - World Cup anybody (Perhaps the best game of the tourney was the one that meant nothing). Vicious circle I know but until the product on the park improves, there will be a continual drop-off in attendance - sad.

Not only that, but he's from Harthill born and bred, supported Airdrie (so that tells its own story), switched allegiance to Celtic (little wonder he doesn't visit his home village much) and who now professes to be a 'boxing' expert (suppose he would need to be if he visited more often). Really sums up the scottish media - when even they can be manipulated to crossover to the 'dark-side'
-
A ned I could put up with - but no, he is shite. Cardiff are welcome to him
-
Definitely Pie's version - in fact he may well hold the copyright

Sadly I did make the game. Deflect, deflect - this place is worse than a Celtic board for that. I notice that you nor Onthefringes, in your attempts to justify the creation of an atmosphere - choose not to comment on the other song sung on Saturday and which I quote:- "We all agree - the Ibrox Disaster was magic". Perhaps those who willing sang it on Saturday would care to do the same on the subway to Ibrox - then again perhaps not. Motherwell fans we may well all be and few in number, but that doesn't mean to say that I have to agree with everything a group of silly wee neds wants to sing. Would you think similarily had the Ayr support sung a similar dity about Phil O'Donnell - but hey they were 'only hurling abuse' and adding to the atmosphere. I will moan where I feel its warranted in this case I feel it is. By all means create an atmosphere but at least do it with some form of dignity. Sorry but I did roar my indignation at them at the time - they were only around 20 yards from me. I have been following the Well home and away for over 40 years (trying and succeeding over the years to create 'atmosphere') and for the first time in my life I was embarassed to be a 'Well fan. Personally I would rather there were 20 fewer of us than have the morons who were there on Saturday continue to go every week and spout this sort of bile - wanna do it every week - head for Parkhead or Ibrox, in fact anywhere but Fir Park please - we're better off without you.
