Those bottom two pics on the right look similar to the wee teasers we had from Canterbury, I hope we dont have that palaver again.
-
Fair point, but you definitely couldn't fault them on quality, I've still got some of their training tops and wear them regularly. The black Polo Shirt in particular gets worn once or twice a week, and that has been the case since I bought it and it is still top notch.

I have to say that I dont agree with the criticism of players while they are wearing the claret and amber. I remember being in the East Stand last season, against Accies if I remember correctly, and as the teams come out onto the park at the start of the game one guy two rows in front of me wearing a Motherwell scarf stood up and shouted "You're shite Fitzpatrick" That's the attitude I deplore, not even giving the guy a chance before barracking him. I get behind the team for 90 minutes regardless of how poor we are, once it's over I'll moan and groan with the best of them, but while there's a game in progress I'm a Motherwell fan and I'll get behind the team all the way.

I would agree with that, I remember being quite surprised at the reputation he got at Rangers because he was never like that with us. When he came back though he had lost a fair bit of pace, not that he had a great deal to start with, and he'd spent years at Ibrox getting away with murder so it was second nature to him.
-
Very few, but then the rule was easy to keep to, you counted your steps and got rid of the ball on the last one. It was a rule that had been in force for years and at the time it was second nature to a 'keeper. It was a stupid mistake. I've been adviseed by my doc not to even think about the following seasons semi-final it's bad for my blood pressure.

McRae for me, the best I've seen by a long way. Disappoints me that most people write off McCloy, he was terrific with us and I think he was allowed to go to Rangers because we had McRae in the wings. Nicky Walker impressed me the few times I saw him at Fir Park, and Stewart Rennie, until the idiot took too many steps in the semi-final against Airdrie. I went right off him after that. Sproat was far too haphazard for my liking. McRae ranks as the best closely followed by McCloy, Ruddy, Dykstra, Maxwell and Smith.

I voted no for the simple reason I remember what it was like before, and we aren't any more civilised than we were then. Things are better now, because there's no alcohol, bringing it back would bring back the arseholes who saw a fitba match as a boozing session. I've ran a few pubs and I know that even the most mild mannered of people can change when they've had a few, it just isn't worth it.

It's a bloody stupid question. As a Scottish Motherwell fan I support both sides. I'd celebrate a Scottish World Cup win with just as much fervour as a Motherwell Champions league win. To vote for which one you would prefer is nonsensical as neither are likely to happen in our lifetimes.
-
That doesn't impress me, why did they keep shoving him on the pitch then, McLeish was forever defending him even although everyone knew he was shit. Still the only player I have seen booed onto the park.
-
The worst I've seen by a country mile is John Hendry and McLeish should be horse whipped everytime he comes near Fir Park just for that signing alone.

I remember going to a game at Parkhead one New Year bak in the late '70's early '80's with a couple of mates and the match got called off about two hours before kick off. We were chatting to a wee guy who had a cardboard box full of rolls, these rolls had never been close to a spread of any kind and had just been roughly opened and had a slice of chopped pork wedged inside. That wee guy went home with his box and was back the following week with the same box and the same rolls and sold the lot. You would see them standing inside the ground with the box at their feet and the bottom three inches of the box would be wet through and still people were buying them. Thankfully you dont see these guys about now, as they need a special license to sell food.

I thought we had a few good performances out there, but thought Hammell was excellent. Any one of Craigan, Lasley, Coke, Hateley and Murphy would merit the motm award, but I didn't see a flaw in Hammell's performance so he's my choice.

Don't get me wrong I'm not running down the idea, I welcome it, I just think it would be extremely useful if we used it to help build up those organisations already operating rather than setting up another committee altogether, albeit with representatives from those organisations. Just taking any ordinary Joe off the terraces as a representative of us non-members is a non starter in my opinion. If you want to be represented on the council join The Trust or the Supporters association other than that there should be a line of communication open for the rest of us, e-mail, text, post, semaphore, whatever. I think the Trust and Supporters Association should use this as an opportunity to increase membership.
-
Why do we need another committee? We already have the Trust and the Supporters association, can't Leeann get the feedback she requires from them? Regardless of your opinion of the various merits of either of these groups, and I think mine is well known, they do represent a fairly large section of our fans. Opening up another committee with representatives of both organisations on board, along with whoever turns up on the night strikes me as more than a bit daft. At least the representatives from the Trust and the Supporters Association will have a mandate from their members, who are the others representing except themselves? Make the committee purely and simply the Trust and the Supporters Association, anyone who wants a say will need to be part of those groups. This may encourage more people to become members of either organisation making them both bigger and stronger and surely that can only be good for the club. Have a forum so that non-members can ask questions and make contributions, yes that's a goer, but dont have them on a commmittee. Mavericks on a committee are nothing but trouble, trust me.

I dont go by what's said in the media either, I'm going on what was told to me personally by two different employees at Fir Park. Neither of whom had bad mouthed Gannon in my presence but did say that the difference in atmosphere since the arrival of Brown and Knox is like night and day.
-
Personally I'm more interested in the "stories coming out of Fir Park" at the moment concerning Brown and Knox. It seems they've put a smile on most faces there and the atmosphere about the place is 100% better. Their knowledge of the game is not in question, and I would not be disappointed to see these two given till the end of the season just to give the club a bit of stability.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Craigan, have just poured myself a small tincture and will raise it to little Chloe. Cheers.

Wouldn't take him in a lucky bag. I noticed the two Jimmy's flogging their wares on Goals on Sunday yesterday. They're a far better prospect.

John Robertson told me this one about Brian Clough. They used to have quizzes on the bus when they were going to away matches. Cloughie was walking up and down the aisle of the bus asking questions and he asked the following question, "Which player won two caps for England in the one day" Everybody thought it's a trick question, it must be one of those players who played both Cricket and Football back in the thirties and forties and they very quickly gave up "Who was it, Boss?" they asked as Cloughie marched up and down the aisle. Suddenly he stopped whirled round and pointing at Gary Birtles he said "You, your first and your last"

I've got a picture of that team somewhere, it was taken at Robertson Park the night we beat Fir Park Boys Club 2-1 in the league cup final. I'll look it out and post it. Jim Prentice, Tommy Anderson, and myself took that team.
-
I certainly do.
-
Weirdly, the wee guy in the goalie's jersey second from the right in the front row could be Howard Sameroffs boy.
-
The guy third from the left in the back row looks like Paul Tracey, I was assistant coach at St Columba's Boys Club in 1981 when he was there.

That was round about the time I first went to see Motherwell so the team would have been along those lines. I had the good fortune to see Joe McBride before he moved on, and at my first game got John Martis' autograph. To be fair I think a few of those players were nearing the end of their career, Aitken retired the following year I believe, Coakley went to Arsenal and Delaney headed for the bright lights of Dunfermline, and Joe McBride decamped to Parkhead the following season. The Ancell Babes heyday straddled the end of the 1950's and the beginning of the swinging sixties. The sale of St John to Liverpool in 1961 saw the beginning of the end for that squad, Pat Quinn's move to Blackpool in 1963 was it's death knell. I remember a friend's dad who watched Motherwell nearly every week at that time telling me that the years between Quinn joining Blackpool in 1963 and relegation in 1968 were, summer cups apart, his most miserable time as a fan. To qualify that I haven't seen him for years so he may re-evaluate that decuision to take in the Malpas years.
