Just outside Sale, and I'm a blue.

Believe it or not I almost got one, my daughter was going to pre-order it and get the wife to pick it up when she's in Motherwell this weekend. A Fathers Day present apparently, thankfully she discussed it with her mother beforehand and was quickly appraised of my feelings. I guess it'll be after shave again this year.

Well there's probably only me and you mate.

I think that's a given, we all have our prefernces as to who we'd like to see in the hot seat, but it's not up to us. What is up to us is to give the new man, whoever he is, our full and unequivocal support. Unless it's Luc

They did stay in the SPL, and got to the Cup Final, and qualified for Europe. Falkirk fans don't have to sacrifice anything. Do you think the record books are going to show Falkirk as "almost relegated" especially when they finished 10th out of 12. (If there was an award for almost relegated St Mirren would be claiming that prize) No, the record books, and John Hughes CV, will show that he kept them in the SPL, got them into the Scottish Cup Final, and qualified for Europe. For a club of Falkirk's stature, that's a hell of a treble.

I long for the days when we played each other just the twice the second half of the season was almost a carbon copy of the first. Now the inconsistencies are glaring, we play Celtic twice in 6 weeks, October and December, then dont play them again until the last match before the split, 4 months later.

Is there a flaw in my argument, most of the players signed by Sanchez are still at the club. He claimed Sanchez spent a fortune on players from the lower leagues, but of Sanchez' major signings Davis and Hughes came from Aston Villa, Stefanovic from Portsmouth, Konchesky from West Ham, and Murphy from Liverpool. I like Fulham, I've been to Craven Cottage several times and I watch their results with interest. I felt at the time that Sanchez never got enough time.

You could ask exactly the same questions of Gary McAllister, or even Mark McGhee before he joined us. Irrelevant. How much faith would Luc's experience as youth coach give the hardened professionals in our squad? I give you Andy Roxburgh at Scotland and Brian Kerr at Ireland, both of whom succeeded at first because the squads they took on had a fair smattering of the lads who had been through the youths with them, yet it quickly became clear, even to those who had worked with them earlier, that both men were out of their depth. The gap between youth football and the professional game is enormous how do we know Nijholt is capable of rising to the challenge. It's poor crack to criticise Sanchez's record as a club manager when it is still vastly superior to Nijholts.

Aye well, thanks for the effort

I'm well aware what success is for Motherwell but we were talking about Telstar who got to the play off's before Luc arrived and ended up in 14th place by the time he left.

It's a very queer way you have of looking at things, John Hughes "almost" got Falkirk relegated. Why not tell us what John Hughes actually DID, rather than what he didn't do. John Hughes kept an almost penniless Falkirk side in the SPL, John Hughes took Falkirk to a Scottish Cup Final, John Hughes took Falkirk into Europe for the first time in their history. Sanchez signed Stefanovic, Healy, Murphy, Konchesky, Camara, and Davis for Fulham. He got 24 games before they sacked him, losing half of them, but it was the fact that he drew another 8 that lost him the job they went 6 games undefeated but every game was a draw including a 0-0 at Chelsea and two 3-3's at home to Man City and Spurs respectively. Take a look at the Fulham side that played the last game of last season and 5 of the squad were signed by Sanchez. It's easy enough to look at stats and reach an opinion but try looking behind the stats for once. Everybody remembers Roy essandoh scoring the winner against Leicester but does anybody remember what happened when Wycombe played Liverpool in the semi-final. Wycombe more than held their own in that semi-final and on a couple of occasions looked the better side, Houlier who had rested Gerrard, Heskey, and Murphy ended up bringing all three on and it wasn't until the last 10 minutes that they made the breakthrough, and even at thatwhen 2-0 down with 2 minutes to go Wycombe managed to pull one back and scare the crap out of them. Stick that along side his wins over England and Spain in qualifiers, not friendlies, as N Ireland manager and I think we have somebody who knows what he's on about. Oh yes, Luc did nothing for Telstar, if anything they went backwards under him, if I'm reading the stats corectly that is.

You and I obviously have different definitions of the word successful, I tend to go along with the Oxford English Dictionary on these things.

Seriously? I can't believe that I've lived in South Manchester for 14 years and can't remember a time when there wasn't talk of Stockport going bust. Gannon got sacked because the club almost went bust and he hasn't had a job since, any wage is better than no wage at all in my book.
-
Of the ones quoted on here, Sanchez has already said it's not about the money, in other words "Come and get me" I don't think that's an invitation we can ignore. I've also said Calderwood, Gannon, and Jeffries should all be given careful consideration. Nijholt hasn't done enough in a managerial sense to be considered.

That's the point, no-one has posted any hard and fast evidence as to Luc's credentials for the Motherwell job. It all seems to be hearsay and other people's opinions. I don't care what Co Adriaanse thinks about him, I dont give a toss how he comes over in a newspaper interview, I care even less that he played for us. I want, and we damn well need, a manager with a breadth of experience in football. I want someone who can point to a track record as a manager, not someone with letters of recommendation for his work with the youths, no matter who signed them. We are a club in turmoil, McGhee wants to take Klimpl and Hughes to Aberdeen, Smith is on his way elsewhere, Hearts are eyeing up McLean, Cardiff are looking to sell McCormack and replace him with Clarkson, that's half our team. We don't need to be giving some ex-players their first shot at the big time or a chance to resurrect their careers, we need a strong, capable, and experienced manager to get this team off it's knees.

There are people in Scotland who cant tie their own shoelaces, who can barely spell their own names, AND THEY KNOW THAT.
-
Sorry to burst your bubble.

As I thought.

He bought, Bouaza, Murphy, Healy, Konchesky, Camara, Hughes, Stefanovic, and Davis. Those were the same players that kept you up that season, the truth is Sanchez was very unlucky at Fulham. If I remember correctly it was draws that did for him rather than defeats. 6 draws out of seven matches including a 0-0 at Stamford Bridge and two 3-3's at the Cottage against Spurs and Man City. Fulham's worst defeat that season came after he left when Spurs hammered them 5-1. Sanchez was sacked purely down the league position Fulham found themselves in and it didn't change until late in the season, indeed Fulham took 9 points from their last 3 games to stay up.
-
I'd prefer him to say "No thanks" and sod off back to Holland but we dont all get what we want.
-
Is it? I never knew that have you got some stats you can let me see?
-
I would refute that I believe this is just public relations. Not longer after he joined leicester he was asked what was the first score he looked for after coming off the pitch. His answer was along the lines of "Rangers, even when I was at Motherwell that was the score I always looked out for" it's not verbatim but it's fairly close. My attitude towards him changed from that day on.
-
At least he did enough and showed enough to be employed at that level. Macca never did, his CV is so bad he's now decided the Motherwell job suits him after all. Yesterday's article in the record had Eric Black advising Motherwell not to snub Macca 'again' when it was Macca that snubbed us last time. He also referred to Motherwell as "Macca's team" which is utter bilge as anyone who knows him will tell you that Gary McAllisters team is, and always has been, Rangers. If neither of the two of them have a great record then it obviously comes down to experience in a managerial situation and Sanchez wins that one by a landslide. True Sanchez did sign Chris Baird for Fulham, he also signed David Healy, Paul Konchesky, Diomansy Kamara, Hamed Bouazza, Danny Murphy, Dejan Stankovic, Kasey Keller, Aaron Hughes, and Steven Davis. I believe Sanchez is the one from the left wing, he's precisely what is needed.

I like McGhee and I think one day he will be a good manager. He has one major flaw though, he believes he's better than he is. Mark McGhee believes he should be managing one of the big four in England or one of the Old Firm. That's where he thinks he belongs and each job is another step nearer that goal. He believes the grass is always greener somewhere else, which in Fir Park's case is probably true, so tends to jump ship with the job half done. I had hoped after the Hearts saga last season that he would see the job through at Motherwell but I'm beginning to doubt he ever will see a job through anywhere. Is Pittodrie just another stop on his way to where he thinks he belongs, possibly. If he really sees himself as a top boss then he has to prove himself he has to start winning trophies, not hearts and minds. Maybe he should hang around a bid at Aberdeen, and maybe that's what he should have done at a few other places. I dont think it's fair to say he doesn't do a good job at a club, when he left Reading Steve Coppell took over and Reading took off, similarly at Leicester, he was no sooner out the door than Martin O'Neill was in and Leicester never looked back. Within 6 months of leaving Millwall they were in an FA Cup Final and the UEFA Cup. So maybe next season doesn't look all black for Motherwell. I admire what he done at Motherwell. I dont believe I ever saw a Motherwell squad that looked fitter, and I dont believe I ever saw a Motherwell squad that played better. I hope the new manager has a similar philosophy to McGhee.
