He's not really Gok Wan, he's an anagram of Gok Wan.

Marvellous idea and something that will get the fans talking. Can I just make a point though, while I have no wish to decry the naming of parts of the stadium after iconic players it does annoy me that there are few references to Sailor Hunter. In the history of Motherwell Foootball club there is no bigger or more important personage than John Hunter. I would like to see his memory honoured in a permanent way at Fir Park. I have consistently put his name forward for inclusion into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame, to no avail, maybe the club giving him some, overdue, recognition may set the ball rolling.

Nonsense with Adidas you know what you're getting three stripes down the sleeves and a wee logo on the shirt, the three stripes dont take away from the look of the shirt and their logo is fairly understated as is Nike's swoosh and Umbro's diamond. There are kiwis dotted all over the strip, I counted 18 on what can be seen on the photos. Why are they needed on the sleeves when one takes pride of place above the badge. Why no back view by the way? What colour are the numbers black or white?
-
No different than before, it's a Portsmouth top in amber with a claret hoop. Canterbury don't do original, they have one basic design and that's what you get, plastered with their logos and trademarks, above the badge even, the cheeky bastards. Motherwell players will take the field in that strip wearing two Motherwell badges and 18 Kiwis. Nothing about the socks says Motherwell except the claret band which they've defaced with another set of kiwis. It should say "The 'Well" on that band, or even the club badge. Looking at the strip, it says Canterbury first, and Motherwell second.

Last time I was there they had them in the club shop. I hope they still do them as I'm aiming to get one the next time I'm up. Personally I think the shirts are ruined more by the intrusion of umpteen manfacturers logos and trademarks rather than by the sponsors name.

Any Fans Here With No Connection To Motherwell/lanarkshire ?

No, but you've missed the fat that Melvin was a year younger last season. -
It's a matter for personal choice isn't it, gamblings not illegal and is strictly licensed and monitored. I'm more likely to buy a sponsored shirt than not because I know that it's better for the club and if we start going down the road of asking for strips without the sponsors name it could hurt the club financially. As a club I dont think we can afford to do that, if you dont agree with the sponsors that's fine walk away, buy copies of the Pettigrew or Wark shirts, but campaigning for shirts without sponsorship should be a no no.
-
I disagree with that. My memory of the time was that it was the exact oopposite. Pettigrew never got the credit he did because a lot of people said it was all down to Bobby Graham. Bobby Graham left Motherwell two seasons before Pettigrew did and it didn't stop Willie from scoring goals.

In the early 1970's we were always looking for the next Dixie Deans, it was a wee while before Willie Pettigrew arrived on the scene, and we had various players up front and three I always liked were Jumbo Muir, John Goldthorpe, and Kirkie Lawson. I was working in Uddingston Co-op in 1973 and there was a lollipopwoman outside the offices on Old Mill Road and I always had a chat with her on the way into work. As I left one Wednesday lunchtime I stopped to chat and told her I was going for a game of snooker and then going to the football that night to see Motherwell. She stunned me by telling me her son played for Motherwell, it was Kirkie Lawson's mother. She later became a councillor for the area, a wonderful character.

I know the feeling, the time when I really felt my age was when Alan McInally announced his retirement. It really hit's home when the SONS of players you idolised retire. -

My next trip up from Manchester will be for the Europa Cup match, I tend to make a couple of days out of it and stay with my daughter in Netherton. So I dont have to travel there and back in the one day. -
Best And Worst Motherwell Performances You Have Seen
TheLip69 replied to trafficlight's topic in Club Chat
I have been waxing lyrical about that goal for years, does it exist in video anywhere because I'd dearly love to see it again. My wife and daughters, who were volunteers at a club for handicapped adults, had got tickets for the match from the club to take along some of the members and were in the main stand that day. Of course they were too busy keeping an eye on their charges that teh whole match passed them by and they didn't see the goal. Worst was in the latter days of Tommy McLean's reign and it was a performance against Hearts in which we were absolutely atrocious. Passes went astray, shots were poorly struck, the 'keeper was fumbling everything, and at one point Kirkie was out on the wing in front of the East Stand a pass was played out to him and he lifted his foot to stop the ball, the ball rolled under his foot and went out for a throw, that was enough for me. The 1-0 lose to Airdrie in the Scottish Cup semi-final was the hardest match I have had to endure, it was the last time a defeat left me in tears. Best, the semi-final against Celtic in 1991 rides high on my list, the 3-1 defeat of Spurs in the Texaco Cup, coming up to date the 3-0 thrashing of Aberdeen a couple of weeks before we lost Phil. -
That was one of Sepp's big ideas that clubs should have specific European strips that differ from their normal league strips, but it was quickly shot down, for most clubs the strip is their brand and is what sets them apart. UEFA decided that adding the badges was sufficient to differentiate it from the strips worn in their home associations tournaments.

If you dont know what I think about it then you obviously havent read my posts.

I only asked one question, and that was tongue in cheek. Not in my book, I have to be seriously pissed before I get angry. To be honest I mostly avoided this thread because the whole long drawn out saga bored me rigid. I popped in tonight actually expecting to see some sort of mock up if not the strip itself only to find it wont be ready for another 4 sleeps, which is appropriate, I'll probably sleep through the launch as well.
-
Gentlemen, and you Jaun, I am not angry just a bit pissed. The advertising campaign's been over for almost a week and we are still no nearer seeing the full thing. I would have thought once the final piss take was out they would have unveiled the whole thing, maybe even had a couple of players wearing it before, or after, the Killie game just to show the fans. I'm not interested in buying it, I just want to see what our players will be wearing when I come up for the Europa Cup match in July. In point of fact, will it be ready by then, or will it's first outing be in a League match?
-
I dont see the need for that, as Falkirk go into the draw regardless of who wins the cup.
-
Is this still dragging on, 6 weeks and four piss takes down the line they still haven't come up with the bloody strip yet? Does it actually exist, and if it does why the hell aren't we being shown it? What possible reason can there be for the delay? I mean it's not as if they are going to sell any more programmes on the back of it, is it? Oh wait a minute, that'll be it, there'll be a fifth piss take in the programme for the home Europa Cup tie. I'm sure there are advertising agencies out there coming the land for the name of the man who set up a 6 week teasing campaign at the end of which he didn't have a product to show the punters. Pure Genius.

Has anyone else heard that the man lined up as our nexy manager is George Burley? I got a text a few minutes ago from a mate in Edinburgh.
-
Yeah, I'd second that, well done Flow and thanks for all the updates throughout the season. Cheers

We're In Line For A Uefa Place Just Now........

I disageee totally, the truth is managers learn next to nothing from friendlies, a few competitive matches before the season starts and our new boss will have a better idea of the players he's got and how to utilise them best when the league starts. I'd rather have the Europa league matches than friendlies against the likes of Millwall and Notts Forest. -
I was wondering when someone was going to point that out.

To be fair, I think Man City were about as clued up as Motherwell are, they knew they were favourites to get the spot but also knew there were others hovering about. That's why when Dunne got sent off in the first few minutes they were reluctant to put in another tackle, because they didn't know what the situation was. -

Apparently it is up to the League who they award the extra place to, and with the Fair Play league winners, Celtic, having already qualified they may choose to give it to the highest placed League club not qualified for Europe and ignore the runners up in the Fair Play League.
