most people know the tie, in Krasnodar cost us money, you said Europe usually costs us money and we should forget it, your posting in multiple threads that we shouldn't bother with Europe? that's just nonsense, Europe has been rewarding in many ways including financially in the last two financial years prior to this season we've received a few quid short of £500k participation money.... Last season we had home gates where everyone paid (as in no ST freebies) Vs panathanaikos 9035 vs Levante 6286 this season vs Krasnodar 6748 so yes one game from around twenty matches has cost us money, that doesn't add up to Europe usually costs us money and we shouldn't bother. let alone considering what commercial/sponsors/advertising/hospitality revenue we gain from participation and even what fans we gain/retain from being up there in the mix, and just in general the profile of the club being raised
-
I know we're differing on this a little, but the Rangers situation, is the financial bother, the horizon is here , no doubt , no league sponsor, is this years addition to the bother, and no doubt something else will add to it next season, seems to be the way of it the Directors seem to be putting money in to support the day to day running , as in, we need a squad to play in the league, and keep fans coming in (did I mention for the year of the published accounts we had cut 3 players and 5 youth players) Reckon the pitch, is now budgeted for every other year, I'm sure it was mentioned previously when many of us were surprised it got lifted after such a huge rebuild a few years back, although, the upkeep of Fir Park is just one of many demands on the income
-
Depends on how you pitch it I suppose, Commercially the club has continued to grow and earn more as shown in the published accounts some people within and around the club are doing a tremendous job in the face of an almost impossible set of circumstances ( difficult trading period is maybe more in line with the bean counters) Turnover for the previous year was up around £660k, during a period which included some of the Rangers shambles, the costs only went up around £240k so a significant benefit over that trading period, resulting in the loss being reduced from around £600k to around £180k for like for like periods. Rangers shambles alone, walking out that year, not in worse trouble can only be seen as a good result. but the club should be pleased that Gate receipts were up, sponsorship/advertising was up, Commercial income was up, UEFA income was up (£324k ) and transfer income was up ( and will be again in this years accounts considering 2012 was £0) BUT, broadcasting income down and 'other' income dropped, and wages creeped up a little (so without the great work done, a good league cup draw and Europe we have been screwed with Rangers demise) the Euro cup games and outstanding performance of the football team during the period matched the great of field improvements. The £900k for second would have benefited the club but equally the distribution of funds down the placing's might very well have saved the club if we finished lower. BUT still a loss is a loss, and on the back of the previous trading years loss, it compounded the situation. as quite a large business money is owed to may trading partners, hence my comment that lanc had mixed up loss and debt, the fact is the club needed Society funds to trade through the year, (remember Killie, missed one bill and any trade creditor could call in payment) so whilst the club is in better health than many, we're not exactly in the clear and our situation makes us vulnerable to unexpected costs/change in income Directors have already stated they are likely to require Society funds in the near future, and the losses need paid so end up incorporated in this years costs. so without conventional borrowing facilities, the Society is the only funding option available to put funds into the club to strengthen the business (not to spend but to provide the cash flow to trade on improved terms) and without it Directors will have to shorten budgets if improvements on income (cups, tickets etc) are not forthcoming, which we now know they haven't been this year. Guess my interpretation of the message is, keep spending what you can on your club or society. Its my personal opinion that too many fans think a season ticket is enough, £6 a week might let you attend matches ( with two kids!), but it doesn't get you a long term SPFL club to support. lanc might have been slightly of the mark the other night, but he effectively called it, that £1 a week from each our core support and we would have broke even. Pretty sure Europe has made us money. one bad draw cost us for the one away leg, but effectively the European games have saved us financially over the last few years, yet you want us to forget them? a cup game is a cup game, Domestic or European, they are what boosts the club, all should be encouraged
-
not sure how that's meant to read, but, only because funds are tight are our directors paying for any extras. if things were, comfortable, then the business would pay for everything.
-
Think the sherry has you mixed up with trading loss and debt an extra £46.xxp from 4000 contributors would have allowed us to break even on the previous financial year, up to 31 May 2013 you'd have to make a few trips to the cashline, to get an amount 1/4000 of our clubs current liabilities which is hell of a lot higher than that years £188k loss nice sentiment however, and you are correct if every fan just found an extra amount it would make a dent in the club financial worries

So a few years in to the Friday night football experiment, and now we have games switched with less than four weeks notice , in Winter, Motherwell in Dundee, on TV and normal pricing. I said it years ago , the inconsistent match scheduling and late date switches is the biggest own goal of the SPL-SPFL Premiership. I cant find the other Friday football thread, showing attendances were only ever skewed with 'enhancements' and now we have the added 'Sellik' factor damaging chances of extra income for clubs. it'll suit some and not suit others, I'd wager more season ticket holders lose out , over those who gain So, what do folk think years on? Friday night football, does it help Football in Scotland or not?
-
be interesting to read it through, maybe the speculators will stop spreading optimistic information on league income is that the third year in a row that player bonus has been used as a reason for losses?
-
Unemployed ---------------> to, Employed on decent wage with decent contract, in a marketplace that a mate has recommended = Good move and like almost every ex player I hope he does well, unless against us ex-players failing after moving does Motherwell no good at all.
-
Always found it strange that people feel the need to boo and berate someone who served us and moved on, especially one who did so at the clubs request. Over another 10 or so players in front of them in any given game that have never served us in any way shape or form
-
We beat them in the league only 24 days ago, and whilst it wasn't quite a smash n grab, we certainly carried a bit of luck and got away with the points by the smallest of margins. Aberdeen were the more organised, well drilled and had more flair, we dug deep and united as a team that day, fighting for each other to hold onto a lead. We've lost a key player, but since then some of our swagger has returned with others I'm hoping for a draw or more, they are the strongest side we'll face, they might just have too much for us this year, but with what was shown at Pittodrie and since we can certainly give them a fight for placings

one great season in the 1st division, followed up with a good debut premier league debut season, but not fulfilling anywhere near the promise, thereafter passed about English clubs for 3.5years and now only what six months into a two year deal, getting farmed out again? and even then , more likely to choose a reunion with Butcher at Hibs would he not? could he be another Irish lad that only Butcher can get the best out of? hope Ive not cursed us
-
the only games I'm really up for are when we play a team a little bit different from the norm SPL-SPFL whatever they care to call it , has all but killed off my passion for the games, sure I still go along, but more as a chore for the last few years, I still enjoy many of the games but I'm very rarely 'up for it' but Scottish Cup games against more random opponents and the hugely desirable European games against any level of opponents and that's a different story, sadly the management don't always seem to follow that train of thought. Closest domestic league game though would probably have been Thistle at Firhill but other League opponents, Ive seen Motherwell v St Mirren around 20 times in the last 6 years, and we've not even been in the same split of the league, fair play for anyone that can still get enthused in advance for those games
-
Going to be a frustrating afternoon by the sounds of it, Seems a ridiculous defensive setup in the face of the free scoring champions a measure of our small budget and squad, or McCalls refusal to play reserve squad players we'll not really know I hope like St Mirren and Partick where we had similar stupid defence positioning choices, the attacking threat can lift us out of the mire. its his choice and works out more than not, so he keeps more praise over the minor criticism, but Hammy at RB in a defensive role hasn't worked before, lets hope his ability to deliver crosses, bails us out. we'll get chances, just wonder if we'll score more than they do?
-
For a game that turned into a bit of a slog , I felt we had a few good performers today Vigurs, who I can be critical of for attitude, looked interested today again and delivered many fine passes Lasley and Carswell, worked very hard in midfield, Stuart in particular with a few critical blocks and tackles Ainsworth, had a slow start, but got going and created most of our chances for himself or others, was surprised to see him hooked but MOTM, Shaun Hutchinson, immense, and solid taking some hefty challenges and getting up and on with it, even found himself with a near miss on goal
-
turned into a bit of a slog could have been three or four up quite easily Ainsworth looking the liveliest and most likely to unlock them after a slow start But big Hutchinson was immense, fully deserving of any move up that he achieves , maybe more of his new fans will get his name correct

I have to agree , that on paper that's great value, and if the purchaser benefits from free kids tickets in addition its even better value. but.... with insulting match scheduling, even some quite 'devoted?' fans will get no where near the 20 matches , 'sold' to them and suddenly that great value feels like they've been scammed..... still good value and I'm not knocking our clubs ST pricing and promotion, but fixture scheduling kills the excellent value. my take on the often commented ticket prices being too expensive is quite simple, high PATG prices in a stadium two thirds empty , is what is restricting any growth, charging £22 for anyone to walk up and view a game, is Mental. see all the folks that boosted crowds at Fir park, in the promotional games or the European nights when they pay some extra as a treat, or even just a lapsed fan who finds their way back? asking them to pay current league pricing to keep coming back , just doesn't promote or encourage anyone to follow up the rare visits. I've got a mate who know works abroad, when he comes home he always wants to take in games, he'll very rarely take in more than one on any trip now, ask him why, simply the cost. I and a number of pals are Motherwell fans, because as kids, we could jump on public transport on a Saturday afternoon get to Motherwell , pay in, get a snack, occasionally buy WFGLF or OSB and get train home, all for some very modest pocket money. Prices were such that, when the 'Well were further afield we'd even nip up to Hamilton games, as saving up for the next Motherwell game wasn't needed. the club ran buses to take us to occasional away games, habits formed, football was part of the weekly routine, missing games was frustrating and travelling more to away games etc. all this eventually led to us buying ST's as gate prices kept increasing. so for me PATG pricing and match scheduling combined need to change before we boost the home fan average crowd significantly , sadly I don't see either changing soon, as for current numbers, well done MFC, the only thing that makes it look low, is the drop off in visiting fans, a few big hitters missing , but not making ourselves the first choice away game for other fans, seems like a missed opportunity

And I'd suggest, looking back to where these figures originated from they are over estimated for this season if the club do have to sell, they should be commended for holding onto him for the last 12-18months after the paltry offers were officially on the table, and as a high earner the savings on wages are not to be sniffed at either. but as a football fan, I want him here, the club have also played some interesting hands in recent years with juggling other cards to come up with interesting solutions, lets hope something can be done. I would miss having a player in the side, that regularly takes some pretty hefty knocks and just gets up and gets on with it, for his team mates

It would be nice, too right it would be, but as the club, needed the cash last season, at the close of the window, and then the society had to transfer a fair amount on top of the transfer fee, then Id assume as we are in a more difficult position this year and as indicated at society meeting that cashflow is again borderline, then I sadly think he will be available to suitors, besides even the paltry amounts people are mentioning as potential lower end prices are more than prize money too many people forgetting , we have no league sponsor and I'm pretty sure the leagues had some exceptional 'costs' during the summer break , Cant imagine prize money between any places from 2-6th would be substantially above £100k Still, hope he hangs around, but don't believe it would be because the club are rejecting decent offers this time around

Staggering..... was about to say the media coverage has improved a tremendous amount in the last decade or so , yes there are areas that are still frustrating, but it has certainly improved. big buff mentioned the amount of 'Well fans in the press and media and the split also seems to be improving (also handy for rolling about Russian streets with ) guys from outwith the traditional catchment for this area also give positive coverage to our club, probably a direct spin off from the media teams good work. Sadly as many as there are, not enough editors are publishing , more a sign of the state of paper media than anything else. cannot believe Richard Gordon got credit for mentioning Motherwell on sportssound, go see the lengths individual well fans are going to, to highlight the shockingly poor coverage to him and his editor on social media for lack of 'Well coverage after matches, its the one area that truly shocking. A token mention one week, doesn't balance that out, sadly the week Chick Young covered our game he actually gave rave reviews, only to forget about his match functions , when a weegie subject came up, BBC used to be the relatively balanced source, but that radio show, will easily split its last hour, into 30 minutes Celtic, 15 minutes new firm, ten minutes the other big city clubs then a token gesture mentioning the provincial clubs. Hell after Aberdeen, we literally got mentioned as they were going into the wrap at the end of the show. But thinking we have our ownership sorted and are sustainable at present, means clearly, far too pleasant a picture has been painted

you're correct weeyin, and its clear that's why the prices remain at such a high rate, Jackson is probably well aware he's also got to set them up going forward with much lower income, harsh to say it, but he is effectively wringing the last premiership pennies from anyone willing, mainly their core support , but us as well. Not the first time he's had to do it, city punters always been willing to pay more than our core for whatever reason that is? Historical occasion as it could turn out to be, I'd still dig him for it being too much, But I'd accept any response...once...
-
at those prices it's difficult choice for most everyone who goes along normally, or those that it happens to suit this weekend. Its too much for any domestic game, £20 is too much, but even our own club robs fans for more The reason I'll pay it this weekend , is simple, when we were listening for the death knell, we needed every penny for survival, not all, but a good amount of visiting fans continued to show up and pay money towards that survival whilst seeing their team, Hearts supported in decent numbers , and a few workmates came through from Livvy to see them after some persuasion. its a token gesture on my part, but I've been able to put some gate money into all the clubs in administration, whose own fans put money through Fir Parks gates. At least Hearts are trying to recover in a fairly legitimate manner, steered by a man we all owe a certain amount of gratitude to. If I see him , I'll be telling him he's scaring away visiting fans.

Rather tragic thread, its clear the o.p, always had a problem with Hateley, pretty sad that a player who started as many games through a really entertaining period evokes those sort of feelings and sad that Frazzle has to bring it up after many months, stating that Hateleys missus talks a load of shite when it suits, and then making out that what she says is justification for his digs on whether Hateley is fit or not many players over the years who have robbed wages out of MFC, or disgraced themselves, or quite simply not been very good, but Frazzle and a few others worry about one that despite his frustrations served pretty well, and never bad mouthed the club. as for him never beating you at football? , he clearly has...many times over the Sherriff certainly found him guilty, don't know if he appealed

Because it is, stop filtering out the actual facts and get over it. consistent rain, saturates and raises level of groundwater, only needs four or five hours clear to allow enough capacity to host a game, like the other day, that couldn't be guaranteed today after, forecast clear spell didn't happen. scheduled for TV and long distance for travelling fans, would nudge towards early decision Club will be the most upset, they are the business that losing money forecast unlikely to clear up = gamble that even more money would be lost PS other games in area also being called off, must be you wringing your knickers out. Proposal move Fir Park to Dumbarton rock or Inverness, so water can drain straight to coast, no wait that could backfire as it does there as

Ainsworth signed on until the end os the season in an extended loan deal http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2014/01/03/ainsworth-extends-well-loan/
