I think that with Celtic on the back of a defeat, the fact even with our strongest backline we struggle to keep clean sheets and us heading there with a potential central defence of Ramsden and Cummins - the latter of which had an absolute nightmare against them at Fir Park earlier in the season - it hints a tough afternoon ahead. But by the same token we've witnessed teams completely flap when we've gone for it hammer and tongs and who knows how Celtic might react to that if we were able to start with the same intensity as we've finished some of our recent matches and managed to get in front. Fingers crossed!!

I just wonder exactly what stage the Murphy deal is at. Sheffield Utd's interest hasn't been a secret for a couple of weeks now and I got the impression it all seemed a bit of a fformality he was going there. But has a deal actually been agreed between the clubs and terms by SU and Murph and they are just waiting on the window opening? Chat about Porter or SU youngsters being makeweights and speculation of interest from Crystal Palace hopefully means not. I hope we haven't committed prematurely to a deal where with his recent excellent form, this supposed interest from Palace and the fact Sky Sports News are currently telling the world of his availability every 15 minutes that we might be able to squeeze an extra few quid out of his departure.

Believe the stuff in the programme related to the retirement of the club doctor, Robert Liddle rather than John Porteous. Can't say I noticed JP's absence today though admittedly.

Subtle prod to get one's arse into gear and get the damn thing updated duly noted Sir!!!

I think we should have had three points from that today, but coming from 2-0 down, deep into the second half, to get a point is certainly not to be sniffed at. I thought we dominated large spells of it from the off and if we had got that first goal we might well have been looking at something akin to the Aberdeen result. Superb finish for Killie's first but by then we should really have been ahead. The chance that Higdon put straight at the keeper from about 8 yards out sticks in the mind. But again as we've seen on plenty occasions in recent and not so recent times there is a bit of character about this group of players and I felt we gradually worked our way back on top but just couldn't get the ball in the net before the break. Second half began along similar lines, though admittedly the number of chances being created were slowly drying up and Killie were becoming ever more dangerous on the break before they eventually got their second. Another bold move from McCall. Harsh on Cummins, but obviously tactical rather than a reflection on his performance today. Another good impact off the bench from Boab and a cracker from Henrik to level. It's actually surprising just how many teams go all rabbit caught in the headlights when you overload things upfront and their discipline and organisation goes completely to pot. Just a pity we couldn't get the winner I thought we would have just about deserved. And if as seems inevitable that Jamie goes in the very near future, nice that he marked it not only with a goal, but according the 'fishel, his 50th goal in Motherwell colours.

Guy in the work - Rangers fan so don't know where he's got his info from - seems to believe Aberdeen are stalling on a contract extension as they are keen on Derek Adams as Brown's successor. There would be something quite amusing if Brown ended up being pushed out the door as the result of some behind the scenes skullduggery.

Very occasionally there are some results that you would be be quite happy if you didn't have another game for a while simply so you can spend time reflecting on just how good it was without it quickly being nidged into the background by the subsequent fixture. For me this is one of those. It was a bold selection by McCall. The last few games we've been "in the zone" going forward at points during recent games where the situation has demanded a fast-paced, sustained attacking approach. I got the impression that McCall wanted to let them loose from the word go yesterday to make sure Aberdeen didn't get the foothold in the game that would allow them to dig in and then look to nick one as is their way. When Brown goes down the "I'm not one for making excuses...but..." line post-match you know that he's been tactically outdone and so it was yesterday. We rode our luck a little in the opening couple of minutes and I was getting increasingly edgy as we inched towards half-time but over the piece we delivered a raally memorable attacking display that was all the more enjoyable given the opposition. The third was crucial for me. It completely changed the outlook that Aberdeen were forced to take as they looked to rescue the game and afforded us the breathing space to continue to do what we were doing. The subsequent tactical switches they made just played right into our hands leaving their defence exposed time and time again as we tore them to ribbons. What a shame Murph wasn't able to get that hat-trick or Ojamaa a goal that he richly deserved with his performance. That we decided to coast home in the last 10 - 15 minutes also perhaps spared Aberdeen further embarassment. But glorious, glorious stuff!!!!

I particularly like this quote from Ojamaa from the above link

Ahh fair do's then Shaka. I'm in full agreement with you then. It can be pretty soul destroying reading at times.

Indeed they are. So perhaps slightly ironic that you've responded with "stop your happy clappy pish". As tiresome as it obviously is for you to read what you consider to be happy clappy pish its as wearying for those who see the same group of posters repeat the same overly negative pish every time things don't go well.

Though weeyin may beg to differ about stats and previous fixtures meaning little, when you are a team like Motherwell and you've won 4 successive away league fixtures, then really its fairly inevitable what's lurking around the corner sooner or later so I had some doubts in the back of my mind. To add to that I thought St Mirren actually looked pretty decent at Fir Park earlier in the season so I wasn't overly confident going there beforehand. But after the opening few minutes I thought we settled down and played some decent stuff in what was an open game. We'd rode our luck certainly with Hateley clearing off the line and an outstretched foot blocking another with the goal gaping but we'd dominated possession and it looked from distance that we'd had one blocked on the line also, so I thought 2-0 was a bit harsh on us at half-time. Second half it could have been dead early on but for Randolph's weekly jaw-drapping save but after that we gradually built up a head of steam, had them hemmed in and were battering them at times in the twenty minutes. We certainly had enough of the game and enough chances to have got what I think would have been a deserved draw. Certainly disappointed to lose but take some consolation from the fact it was a decent game, played out in front of a healthy 'Well support (the usual suspects in which noisily backed the team the hilt right to the death). Quite whether we could risk a forward line akin to how we've finished games recently against Ross County and St Mirren unless we're chasing something I suspect not, but the Higdon-less front-line does look very pleasing on the eye when its full-flow and the likes of Ojamaa, Murphy, Francis-Angol, Humphrey and McHugh are tearing defenders to shreds with their pace, movement and one-touch stuff. Definitely a good option to have in the locker when Higgy is off form or is being marked out a game. If only we could get reach such levels of intensity at the start of a game, as we've seen at the end in the last week we could have teams blown away Mark McGhee first six months style by half-time.

Seems odd. Perhaps it's been advertised that there is the potential for Aberdeen fans to buy a ticket before they travel - in the same way that Motherwell fans can tickets in advance of PATG fixtures - through the online booking system? But as for a late change to all-ticket from PATG the logistics of printing, distributing, advertising and then selling tickets for a game that is only 8 days away with 2 weekend days and public holiday among them - and all for a game that won't be anywhere close to a sell-out - would I think make it very unlikely.

It would really have to take something to outbore the 0-0 at Paisley one midweeker when Craig Brown was in charge. The night the old goat thought he'd have a laugh and play Humphrey as a striker.

I thought Ferguson always had something of an affection for Accies did he not? Surely he'll no be turning out in the glorious claret and amber anytime soon if he has! Although in all seriousness I do remember when McCall took over there were some over on the Accies board who were adamant he was an Accies fan and he used to come up to Scotland and watch Accies during holidays as that's who his grampa supported! Anyways to get back to Al's point I can certainly concur having bumped into him on holiday in Gran Canaria quite a few years ago and he was almost exactly as described above. Not that I think there is any likelihood of him joining Motherwell any time soon.

In a similar vein noticed a re-tweet from that SPL stats guy from a dandy bemoaning the fact they had only won 2 home games this season and only 3 from 17 in 2012. You can argue the point about us being a better team than Aberdeen but it, and the past couple of posts, perhaps put things in a bit more context. Perhaps its just increasingly more the case that more and more teams are set up better to play away from home, when there is more of an onus on the home to take the game to the opposition with the additional pressure and expectancy that brings.

Sounded like 562 from the East Stand tannoy.......ahh! Stand corrected then on the number. Still not of the mind that a support that got a bit vocal because they happened to be doing all right in a game is worth of the column inches granted to them.
-
Leaving aside our resident misery chick gaining us some notoriety for a second. Does that fawning over Aberdeen fans have any less validity seeing as their travelling army of a 1000 was announced as 562 on the night. From their population of over 210,000? Just asking.

Noticed the advert in the paper programme the other night. Can't remember the exact price but it seemed like a good value for the season - although perhaps that was only for the remainder of this season? Given print deadlines most news articles are potentially yesterday's news by the time the programme actually gets to the point where its on sale but there is plenty interesting reading in the proggy these days that I think would make a digital copy attractive to 'Well fans far from Fir Park.
-
For me McCall has earned the right to a new contract that the club seem keen for him to sign. I do wonder how much more realistically he might hope he can achieve at Fir Park mind you. When you've lead a Motherwell side to successive top half finishes, a Cup Final and European football then you've got pretty close to the summit of what any 'Well boss would hope for I suspect. I wonder what his ambition and motivation will be going forward. Does he foresee the task of rebuilding the team as an exciting challenge for example? Is he looking longer term still and building a team from scratch focusing on homegrown talent? Clearly not every manager is suited to or has any desire to do that. McGhee clearly didn't have the stomach for it. Tommy McLean spoke of building three different Motherwell teams in his decade at the club. Does McCall aspire to something similar?

Very poor stuff. A really weak way to go out too and all the more disappointing given what was a fairly bright opening half hour. Thought we started well, looked up for it and were comfortably the better side; but just hadn't quite built up enough steam to pressure Langfield in their goal. The longer the game went though on the more it swung Aberdeen's way, even before the break they looked to have us sussed by blocking our route to goal and then trying to break fast. For all our possession in that opening forty-five it said much that was Randolph who had to make two top notch saves to keep it level at the break. Continued defensive frailties cost us the first and we retreated into a shell whilst Aberdeen visibly grew in confidence. I like Adam Cummins and I think that all that he'll experience will benefit us further down the line, but this is a very tough learning curve for him. But he wasn't alone in being culpable when the ball eventually got in our box. After that we looked like rabbits caught in headlights before we returned to the first half scenario of Aberdeen allowing us to pass the ball about to little or no effect then look to capitalise when we gave it way or ran out of ideas and chose one of the staple options of hoofing to Higdon or for Humphrey to chase. It's painful to be out, and in so weak and timid a fashion. It irritates that its those two fuckers from Pittodrie that have masterminded it again but more it hurts because we were something like 60 seconds away from the next round and we fucked it up ourselves.
