Happy days picking a Man of the Match from an 8-1 win......

They said on Radio Scotland this morning the Motherwell game would be broadcast live on the radio tonight with updates from Falkirk's game at Viduz.
-
Not sure whether it was true or not but I heard it said when he missed a penalty in the Scottish Cup against Dundee Utd - the one Softy equalised in the 94th minute - that it was the first penalty he had missed in his career.
-
Johnny Gahagan I believe it was with the first. Fantastic bit of skill from Russell to leave half the Celtic defence on their arse before slotting it home and he still found the time for celebratory waves to the Jungle after it. Smashing!!

I think we had a game against Dundee squeezed in between the two Old Firm games when McClair got his goals.

I have to be honest when the question came up in the past about entering the Intertoto or playing pre-season friendlies, I was always of a mind that it was better to leave the Intertoto aside for the impact it might have on our pre-season preparation and the effects later in the season. I have to admit though what a great experience this has all been for supporters, management, players and club officials alike. Ankles has already mentioned the benefits to Jim Gannon and Peter Ward and it goes with out saying how much as fans we love European games. For guys like Paul Slane and Ross Forbes getting the chance to develop and test themselves against differing styles of player and tactics against teams from foreign lands in competitive must be fantastic. The club's admin. will have been tested organising the transportation of a squad of 25 players plus management team and kit at short notice and if we can make this European lark a regular thing then again the experience they'll have picked up over the last few weeks - and in the next few weeks - must be invaluable.

It was a painting/print the club did in the mid-nineties. Had various moments and players printed on it. Think they used a section of it for the programme one season. Actually heard a story once that they removed Tommy McLean from the print because he'd just moved to Hearts and they felt there would be something of a backlash and folk wouldn't buy it.

How Many Of You Diehards Go To Reserve Games Etc ?

I only remember one of those Auldyin. From 1991..... -
A win for Jim O'Brien with Keith Lasley narrowly pushing Paul Slane into 3rd place. Slane continues to lead overall.
-
Some fair comment guys though if a post was required to register a vote I suspect you might get the other side of the coin. Where folk might make an odd choice to be funny just now if you have to make a post I can a few folk not bothering to vote in case their selection is over-scrutinised and torn to bits. Take the polarised views some have about Sutton, McGarry and O'Brien for example. At least with the poll, even in a circumstance like Thursday where fewer people than normal voted enough "sensible" votes have been cast that any piss-take votes will go by the wayside.
-
Any other takers for this one? I'll give it to this evening sometime then close the poll.

There are a few ways to get across via Chapelhall, via Chapelhall then Gartness and in past Caldervale School, via Calderbank and up past Monklands Estate or as Al says through Airdrie town centre, but I think the difficulty is that no matter what way you come it there's a huge bottleneck trying to get into the car park. Some alternatives to park are the Industrial Estate behind Archers at Monklands Estate, the schemes in Petersburn, Craigneuk or go past the stadium and in to the left before the ash parks and park in around Gartlea and walk back.

How Many Of You Diehards Go To Reserve Games Etc ?

For about probably 8 or 9 years in my youth reserve games and BP Youth Cup games at Fir Park with my Dad were an essential part of supporting the 'Well. These days I think I have to go back a couple of seasons to my last game that being an U19 game against Rangers at Bellshill. Lots of good memories from them. Seeing a goalkeeper score against us when we played Airdrie at Broomfield - then Sieb almost doing the same in the 2nd half.......seeing the youths beat Dalbeattie Star 10-1.........the year they entered the Reserve League West and hammered everyone about 9-0.........We went to Stirling one Thursday and drew 2-2, played them again a fortnight later, again at Stirling and I couldn't go and we won something like 14-0.......and just about every midweek game being rounded off with a hamburger supper from Sals in Carfin on the way back to Chapelhall! Perhaps the best reserve I've seen was in between the two semis against Celtic in 1991 when we played Rangers at Fir Park. Very strong wind behind Rangers saw them go something like 4-1 up at one point which we turned around in the second half to win 6-5 with McGrillen scoring four and Cusack playing at centre-half. -
Said a couple of times on Radio Scotland towards the end of the week that the time were having to be bussed up the road from Gatwick and would only arrive back home in the early hours of this morning, so I wouldn't expect any of the squad from Thursday to be involved. It'll most likely be a the U19 squad that remains with some of younger group below that and perhaps an odd trialist or two. Remember the 19's have to prepare for the new season too and its not uncommon for them to face junior sides or teams from the East of Scotland league etc as part of the their preparation.

Ok pal. You're becoming a bit of a pain in the arse now. Your trolling has been tolerated a fair bit but you're getting really close to the point where you are going to end up banned.
-
Home game. I would have to say I hope not, well live anyway. Highlights of us making swift passage into the next round about half ten/eleven o'clock next Thursday would be ideal but live coverage would likely just knock a few hundred off the gate.
-
As Lobey_Dosser stated earlier on, for selfish reasons - given that I'm stuffed for getting the time off - I was hoping for a team just about far away enough and awkward enough that it wouldn't be one I might regret missing for the rest of my puff. Granted we've had a few games now in Europe but they will always remain something to cherished and never taken for granted so to miss any of them is sore. So to get that far away enough location and that they turn out to be former European Champions has left me pretty excited about the prospect of facing them if can see off the Albanians next Thursday. They aren't perhaps the team the may have been but its a potential tie with a fair bit of prestiege attached to it. Mon the 'Well!! EDIT: I am ofcourse making the assumption that it is Steaua who go through and not Upjest

I always thought it was Leo Beenhakker rather than Guus Hiddink who was the Dutchman interested in us before McLeish was appointed. Also seem to remember McLeish weighing up then deciding a move against Neil McCann before he went to Hearts. Hardly the best rumour. More "a rumour" in the grand scheme of things but there you go.
-
The team trained at Airdrie prior to Llanelli and I'm sure they'll be in there again before next Thursday.
-
I've never compared you to Llanelli! What I have posted, in response to another poster's point, is an example, and used Llanelli, because it a very recent example that because we might have not scored against a side one week, it doesn't necessarily mean its going to happen again the next. That's not over-confidence. That's illustrating a fact. You are confident your team will progress. I'm confident mine will. We'll see soon enough!
-
What you say is true but it doesn't dent my confidence any less. Ofcourse the conditions will be the same for both teams, but next week we will be at much less of a disadvantage than we were this evening. The fact we didn't find the net this evening doesn't necessarily mean we're going to be shot shy next week. Using Llanelli as a case in point you had two not dissimilar displays and with similar dominance in possession. One week we didn't score, next time out we got three. I remain confident.
