  1. I found it interesting that he referred to Brighton in his programme notes yesterday. Perhaps it was down to Flow's passing on the link from the Brighton forum, but his comment yesterday suggested (despite him being sacked) that he had taken them as far along the road as he could.
  2. I see signs of a really good player in Sheridan but he is miles away from being anything like the finished article. I think in the longer term we are doing Celtic quite a turn and for his time at Fir Park he'll go back there a better player than he came but our part of the deal involves us working through the inconsistencies that inevitably come with a 19 year old, trying to improve his touch and decision making during games, dealing with the mental side of things when its not going your way etc for getting that striker with some promise. Much has been said of his miss before half-time that could have put the game to bed, but his touch and the power he got into the shot early on the game was excellent and he was really unlucky not to score. Quite similar to the goal in Inverness in fact. That demonstrates to me, there's certainly something there for us to benefit from. But as for the question, who should start at Killie? Who knows

    Dundee Utd

I'm not really too surprised to hear that Levein and the Arabs thought they might have deserved something out of it. You almost always look at it from your own perspective and with it being such an open game, Utd having had a few opportunities and lost a controversial winner that they will believe they had enough of it to make a claim of warranting a point. That said, we can just as easily look at it and say with the amount of clear cut chances we had, the long spells of the game we were in charge of, that we fully deserved the win. And personally I think we did. We didn't make it easy for ourselves and it was heart in mouth time every time they got a free-kick or corner but overall we were the better team. Could and should have it comfortably put to bed after what I thought was a pretty good first half display but we really did look sluggish at the start of the second and were pushed back for what was really the only spell of the game, before regaining the ascendancy. And even when we were under that wee bit of pressure we had a couple of chances to get back in front. Some typically bizarre refereeing from Brines - the one where he waved play-on right at the south stand touchline only to change his mind when Hammell started running towards goal being one of the strangest. All in all though a great and vital three points.
  4. Stephen Hughes did it for me today? You?
  5. Nice to see the 19's complete the hat-trick today. But who was the guilty party who launched the ball over the fence behind the goals and on the railway lines? Coming home from work tonight, the train slowly grinds to a halt just between Polmadie train depot and the back of Rutherglen's ground and there's this Motherwell mitre fitba sitting between two tracks
  6. Well Melvin, my first impressions weren't so much think it was throwing good money after bad but I did think if we can retain Klimpl then its certainly that could be better utilised elsewhere in the team. And not's even taking into account Malcolm's willingness to sign having not kicked a ball in anger for almost three months now.
  7. And Bob Malcolm's too on the report on Scotland Today.
  8. Glad it went well and I do hope its the first of many succesful events. In days gone by I would have been right up for an event like this. Done my share of quiz nights, race nights, POY dances and the like over a good many years but there comes a time when you need to prioritise. Do you go to a night like last night or do you keep the money and hope to go to a forthcoming away game? That was my dilemma. Just worth pointing out that a failure to attend is not necessarily apathy, a lack of interest or a shunning of a club event. Just sometimes you can't do all you might necessarily want to.
  9. We all have our own agendas. The vast majority of players will always be on the look out for the best deal they can get, clubs will be looking to have the best possible squad with the resources they have and we as supporters want to best for our team so if a player chooses to leave to go elsewhere then some will always feel let down. I don't see any of that changing. I guess its all just finding a balance. Historically clubs likely held the upper hand being able to retain players whose contracts had expired and in recent times the pendulum has swung in the players favour with pre-contracts being able to be negotiated in the last six months of deals. Indirectly I suppose it could be argued that the club will have more sway with the move to scrap the reserves having the livelihoods of a greater number of players in their hands but that's only really going to be a one off situation. I remember hearing similar when the Bosman ruling was due to come in with hundreds of unemployed footballers going to be on the dole but while the numbers looking for clubs were initially greater, things carried on the same. Those good enough found clubs at a similar level and the rest work their down the pecking order or eventually packed it in. I would expect much the same to continue this time too. I said on another thread that I think its not so much the youngsters who are reall this time. Usually there are only a couple that make it from a youth side to getting a full-time contract anyway. Its the likes of say Steven McGarry who could be in bother - your first team fringe player for whom no reserve team likely means no regular football for weeks. Time will tell I suppose though!
  10. Bit of a strange request. Strangely placed post and totally bizarre notion to come on to a football forum of another team to discuss motor racing However, you might want to take a look >>>> Here for some contacts for MFC's Supporters Association. Might I enquire though why a Hearts fan, interested in motor racing be looking for the head of Motherwell FC's supporters group though?
  11. Perhaps. But then you tend to give reports like that a little less credence when there are no quotes and they begin to suggest alternatives without it apparently dawning on them that we have already signed another keeper ourselves on a pre-contract.

    Vs Hearts

When its not meant to be, its not meant to be. I thought we were tremendous in spells last night. We set the tone right from the word go with a positive outlook and just kept going at them right until the very end, even when we lost the goals and Craigan. Very hard done by not to get even a point from the game but we can surely take a lot of confidence from having gone there and been comfortably the better team. We know we can beat them. We've gone to Tannadice and won with something to spare, should have buried them at Fir Park as we should have done with Aberdeen also. Psychologically we should have no fears about meeting these teams again if we manage to finish in the top half. We just have to make sure we get there now! There remain question marks about whether it may be better to player another midfielder wide in midfield if Clarkson isn't going to be used upfront and its a concern to see us slowly slip back into the way of conceding from routine balls fired into the box again, but all in all we remain in good shape to take the fight for a top six place to the wire - and if we get that then's the time to re-assess how far we can go.
  13. A fine team performance so a difficult one to call.

    Hearts Tickets

Tickets just come through the door Never a moments doubt......

    Hearts Tickets

According to the 'fishel site yeah there is. It's my Plan C actually. Waiting/hoping for the tickets to come in today that I ordered from FP last Wednesday(!), that's Plan A. Plan B if they don't come in by the time we leave in the afternoon is getting the ticket office to get replacements left at Tynie and if that doesn't happen at least I know I can pay in tonight and sort it out later.
  16. To be honest all this talk of where we will be in 4 games time when we do such and such and we'll qualify for Europe this means or that is all way too premature for my liking but having read Tartan_Special's post my evil eye is twinkling at the thought of St Mirren not only losing a cup final against the Sheepies but a European place to us! Can you imagine the wailing that one would cause down Paisley way.
  17. Damn right we should be celebrating the 125th anniversary of the club's formation. We've a fantastic history that we should be proud to shout about to honour those who have served the club so well over those years and mark their achievements. To educate those who don't perhaps know enough about the club's history and to serve as a reminder of what Motherwell FC has done for the town and county in terms of profile over that time. And what better opportunity than an anniversary such as this.

    Ewan Cameron

As I stated earlier in the thread, I'm not into any of the phone-in's so I don't know if this current attack on the club is solely down to the pitch or whether its been sustained over other issues for a while. It struck me though, are this mob just in the huff because we knocked back their sponsorship deal to change the name to the Real Radio Stadium or whatever it was? Would we be getting it quite so tight from Cameron if their name was plastered over four stands? Just a thought.
  19. Null vote from me. Not there sadly. For the ones who did make it, who was your top man?

    Inverness Away

Airdrie mate is not long away after paying us a visit. Asking about each other's next fixtures and he tells me they are away at Ross County on Saturday. Surely not the reason why they've chosen to make this a dry train? Motherwell and Airdrie on the same train to Inverness?
  21. No he only left in early February 1998 so while they were in trouble, there were still several months for him to sort out Duffy's mess at Easter Road. His profile from the official incidently...... >>>> Clicky
  22. The team you were really looking to take on Nancy would have been the one from December 2007 when our attacking play was perahps at its most creative and potent. That Motherwell team in the form they were would have been our best chance of beating them I think. Sadly for a variety of reasons we've never quite returned to such levels. You live in hope that we'll get back there but we are a different team now in many respects.
  23. Aye, really pleased with that. A tentative opening couple of minutes but after that we gained a fair bit of momentum as the half went on and I thought we had more than held our own throughout the game. They obviously created and missed a few more chances, but over the piece I felt we were worthy of our point. Brines didn't help. Perhaps no game changing decisions but a couple of baffling ones and allowing several Celtic players to persistently get away with fouls and mouthing off at him was a bit frustrating. Didn't think we got the credit we deserved listening to some of the "experts" on the way home though I had to laugh at Murdo McLeod being asked if he thought Motherwell deserved a point. As if we're going to get an impartial answer to that one eh! Oh and I await the excuses about the pitch rolling in despite the fact that largely the type of football they played was ideal for the likes of Caldwell and McManus to hoof it up to Vennegoor of Hesselink.

    Celtic

Another difficult one, though for completely different reasons to Thursday night. Lots of potential candidates today. Reynolds? Craigan? Hughes? Just edged out by a domineering display in midfield from the Slovak Psycho. Reputations stood for nothing as he gave them no respect whatsoever and powered through them several of them at various points of the game. Brilliant.

    Ewan Cameron

Someone said it further up the thread that once they've wound you up sufficiently to either phone or email they've done their job and I agree. I don't believe that half those involved genuinely hold half the views they claim to. They are like folk on message boards who'll drop a wee grenade and then stand back and enjoy the fall out as all hell breaks loose. When it boils down to it Cameron's opinion is worth no more yours or mine and he holds just as little influence either. I can't stick phone-in's to be honest and wholeheartedly endorse the IGNORE option.
