The only way it will work is if the teams agree to give each other the money from away sales. So all ticket, programs, food & drink bought by the away fans is given to the away team (after the expense for stewards, kiosk/turnsyle staff taken off). This would of course mean, all games are All Ticket and an agreed % through-out the league must be agreed regarding minimum ticket allocation. Celtic and Rangers, probably even Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen are not going to like sharing their income with teams like Motherwell, Hamilton, St Mirren, ICT and whoever else we bring up to make 18 team league. It has no benefit to them - which lets be honest is all they care about.
-
The only way we'll get an 18 team league is if there is an 18 team league with no auto relegation or promotion. Hell there is only 20 or so Full Time clubs in Scotland as it is. It is unlikely that the league would change year in year out. Also, not sure why the Motherwell should benefit from the Old Firm getting 50,000 fans each through the door!
-
Sad fact is Junior Football teams would vote against it. They are happy the SFA (wrongly) backed down and allowed them three cup places as it is. No way will they allow themselves to be dragged into the Football League. They'd lose too much money - no longer would they be able to play Division 1/2 wages if they're playing in the 4th teir of Scottish Football - as the taxman would keep a nice little eye on them amongst other things.
-
I'm in for a reduction to Germany level prices (that we've seen in the past) but only if Motherwell fans sign a contract that they won't mind going down to the level of Haverdfordwest etc. As it would mean Part-Time, Semi-pro Football (apart from Rangers and Celtic). Why do people compare our prices to other nations but not take into all the other things about the nation. Like the fan bases are there, the TV Revenue is huge compared to ours, Sponsorship - what we got paid by JAXX you'd lucky to get a slot in one of the Stadiums never mind be main sponsor at someone like Gladbach etc. etc.

Actually you quoted The Duke of Wellington wrong. So it is attributed to you (or the Metro ) The full quote is "Being born in a stable does not make one a horse"

Craig Brown Enters The 'atmosphere At Fir Park' Debate
Wellfan1984 replied to Steve Diggle's topic in Club Chat
TBF I don't think Smoke Bombs been fired amongst 10-50 kids creats any kind of atmosphere. It's not even close to Continental Europe where there are thousands of bouncing fans with flares and smoke bombs going off - get the thousands of fans bouncing then think of getting the flares in. The No-Standing thing is a joke though, but there is a thread for that already. -
I never get it when people say this. How will our win at Tynecastle mean nothing? Do the three points we got get removed?
-
That's why I'm positive. If the league table was the same (us third, them bottom) but it was our home record that got us there, then I would be very pessimistic but tbh our home form is just as bad as their away form - ok we've collected 1 more point but still. 3-0. Murphy, Blackman and Sutton.
-
Sadly we cannot. The Football League can, hence why he'll end up at a Championship/League 1 side.
-
Not sure why we need to look for a Scottish Granny, when his mum was born in Kilmarnock.
-
Brown got his tactics spot on in the second half. When he realised all Hearts were doing was humping the ball up to Kyle, all he did was ask the players to win the second ball. No point challenging for the first, as Kyle would/should beat most in the air. Excellent. Changed it when we needed to. Agreed about the fans. But it's always the same from the 'Well away support when we go to Tynecastle tbh (well everytime I have been).

Gow will be a good signing for us, but his best season as a footballer was his season when Falkirk had him and Stokes up front. His job then was to be the foil and the knock down guy. He was the target man in that team. And despite what the media would tell us Falkirk didn't play free flowing football either. In fact, they were a bit like us last season the back 4 having like 85% pass completion rates due to passing it forward 5, sideways 5, backwards 5.... long diag ball to Gow... ball into box/knocked down for Stokes to score
-
Aye, but the fact is we are winning games. We've not looked out classed in any game we've played. And the fact we've played good football for a sustained period of time only really once in the last 5-10 years and by god, despite what some will say here that was not under Gannon. In fact alot of the football we've played under Brown was much better than Gannon to every think of playing - unless you count 2 centre backs (whoever they would be as it would not have been Reynolds and Craigan) and our full backs (whoever they may have been as it wouldn't have been Saunders or Hammell) passing it between each other for 45 minutes or until the other team get bored of waiting for us to look like attacking and press us into submission!.
-
Sometimes I think I'm on the Real Madrid/Spanish league forum when I read these match threads. It is almost exact same. With people moaning the fact we won a game but didn't play football "the right way", "on the ground", "tippy tappy" etc.. @thisGraeme... As for Hammell, I still find it hard to believe Dixon is better than Hammell, late into the game last night Dairylea was still ripping the pish oot of him!
-
Slight injury picked up playing for WBA. Was expected to be fit but Docs said no on Tuesday morning! Hence why he wasn't on the bench
-
Ah if only our site was as detailed on matches for our youths Not to mention other info like DOB, position, height and weight of course
-
Scary the amount of people that can't take their Motherwell bias away when it comes to Scotland.

Playing for Huddersfield after rejecting a couple of Premiership clubs and Sheffield United.

That's what we're (I say we, but tbh I have nothoing to do with it as I'm the keeper coach) do. Trying to get through the parents though that although we may lose more than we win, we're at least trying to teach the very basics of touch, control and pass, instead of hump it and smash it!
-
There are not enough synthetic pitches in Scotland, never mind Lanarkshire. There are not enough football pitches altogether. The team I have signed up to coach with had a game at the weekend in Linlithgow, it was due to kick off at 12pm but didn't until 1pm due to overbooking of the pitch!
-
Good idea and you're right about the goals etc, but if we remove Goalkeepers - you kind of put me out me of a job Currently at the team I coach with we're trying to get them to try simple, one-two touch football and passing, and although it's tough on game day (not helped by the parents moaning aw the time - makes the East Stand at times look like the happiest place on earth) it will benefit Scottish Football if even 2 or 3 of those players decide to try and go professional in ten years time.
-
Totally agree but as Brazilian said, if we take Scottish Football off the telly it's not gonna improve our attendances that much (we're not on that often!). Especially when there is Premiership, Championship, La Liga, Serie A, Liga Vitales, Eredivise, Brazilian Serie A, Argentine Premier Division etc. they're not gonna come and watch us! Also take away the money, and we'll be left fighting off the Welsh for players, never mind the English. As I mentioned in the East Stand moaning thread, we need more coaches (those who won't let the kids down), better pitches (synthetic all purpose pitches), and less parents on the sidelines sticking their oar in! And if that fails getting more and more youngsters going to continental europe to be coached Also, did there not use to be a 5.25pm spot on Sky Sports when they had us origianlly on Sky?
-
For that we need more coaches. Just signed up for 2003's myself as a Goalkeeper Coach, but sadly the head coach has a habit of messing the kids around by missing training, so it is left with me who, lets be honest, only has the ability to teach them how to be a goalkeeper - or to strike the ball with both feet. We need more kids to go to 4's, 7's and Youth teams/ We need more coaches to run these, and we need a lot less parents sticking their oar in from the sidelines....
-
You do know all that would do is turn us part-time quicker (see Icelandic/Welsh football for our level) than anything the SPL are currently doing. No TV Revenue will not help Scottish Football one bit, unless Sky somehow decide to bin the Premiership and Spanish Football, along with ESPN binning all their leagues. I thought we wanted a better football in the SPL, to do that you need better surfaces and better players, easiest way to do that? Make more money - not gonna do that through bums on seats alone. We need to sell our product to the highest bidder, bullshitting to get the money in (see the Premiership), get our local governments on the side of their clubs (ala Spain) and pray the TV Companies that fall for it don't go bust (ala Setanta UK)

How deservedly so? Craigan is still Norn Iron's best centre half and a talisman. He doesn't owe his caps to injuries or anything, and as Euro 2008 Qualification proved Northern Ireland are a better team with him rather than without him. The last three managers at least have seen the Northern Ireland defence as Craigan +1, usually Aaron Hughes in the last few campaigns, with the much respected Jonny Evans (mainly only because the team he found himself at giants Manchester United) is shunted to left back to accomadate Craigan. Last time I spoke to a few Norn Iron fans they still don't forgive the manager for dropping Craigan against Iceland and Latvia in the European Qualification in 2008!
