  1. It would appear that there is quite a few corroborating stories linking Nick with a return to his parent club, therefore ..... thanks Nick, appreciate your endeavours over the past few months, you certainly helped contribute to our current points tally with some timely strikes, all the best. Next! Updated post #1 to show a few changes over the past few weeks.
  2. As discussed if Nick is away and Gow's jacket is on a shakey peg, then we should play to our strengths. At present we have pace in abundance however it would appear that the other 11 in the league have sussed out how to combat that threat from us. Therefore I'd suggest: -------------------- Randolph --------------------- Saunders -- Craigan -- Reynolds -- Hammell -------------------- Hateley ----------------------- ------------ Jennings -- Lasley -- Fitzpatrick -- -- Humphrey -------------------------------------- --------------------- Murphy ----------------------- If Reynolds goes in the next few weeks then the next bit is non-existent. If he goes, then Saunders takes his position, Hateley RB and I'd move Forbes into midfield and ask the other three to do the running and allow him to do the pretty stuff. However at present, I'd have Hateley sitting in front of the back 4 while defending, pushing forward diagonally into the RM during an attack. I'd rather he was responsible for distributing the ball than Craigan. It's also the position he's rarely played in since Gannon left and lets not forget, where he won all the plaudits that won him young player of the year. While 4-3-3 appeals to my appreciation of attacking football, it doesn't when we have a defence that's shipping goals compared to only 10 months ago, despite no change in personnel. I think we need to bolster our midfield. Humphrey allowed a free role as to whatever wing he gets the most success (he did that during a few games earlier this season but it hasn't been tried again - really don't know why). I'd tend to start with Murphy against the top 6 teams and with Sutton against the bottom 6. Sutton is more suited to grinding something out at teams who's goal is to stifle and upset. Murphy coming on with 30 minutes to go offers a rapid and fresh pair of legs. Casagolda, Forbes and Page as subs in order of preference for each area of the team.
  3. Report the bloody post then and let a moderator decide. I often tell my Mrs that "I could bloody kill you", murder is a heinous and depraved crime I'm sure you'll agree, have I ever "thought about", contemplated or planned it, no. Get a grip and stop being oh so precious all of a sudden.
  4. Going on that premise, I take it you'd advocate a boozy evening in a Jacuzzi with Jim Gannon and a copious amount of Rohypnol?
  5. So let me get this straight, I suggest a hypothetical stalking of all those critical of Youngie's tenure, not to mention he'd personally have to be complicit, vengeful and impressionable enough to carry out my instructions. You then you suggest that I'm not only advocating but justifying violence .... however your moral high ground (if you were ever on it) is eroded when you then follow it up with a call for face to face ... for what ..... a square up? As you quite rightly point out its a web forum, for someone who can be scathing and not always holding back in your "banter" its a bit rich to withdraw your handbag into your chin. If you feel so aggrieved and feel I was being 100% serious then contact a moderator. I'm sure they will see what I wrote in the context of the thread and tell you to grow a pair.
  6. Good one, I sincerely hope Youngie got a baseball bat in his stocking.
  8. Based on the fact most of our defensively inept performances this season have all been televised then I'd suggest that Reynolds will either stay until the end of the season or be punted for no more than a ginger bottle and a hearty handshake. Gow is a strange one, with his first touch he promises so much but then there is the over elaborate stuff. He's too much of a luxury to carry to rely on one or two slide-rule passes through into the last third. I hadn't really drawn a parallel between Sutton not being involved as much and our dip in form, maybe there is a point to that. Fitzy has consistently got above average reviews when he's been used. You can't blame him because the previous boss has a track record of using the same 11 every week regardless of opposition, conditions or tactics. I for one would extend another 6 months, give him a run alongside Lasley and Jennings in midfield with probably Hateley dropping to just in front of the defence to help shore it up. As I said a while ago, Humphrey will only be measured by how he plays against teams who learn to combat his pace. It appears the other 11 in the league have sussed him out and are nulling his contribution. Going forward he needs to work out how to terrorise left backs again. Blackman is having a dip, no questions, I wouldn't be so bothered if it appeared he was at least committing and had fire in his belly. I really hope McCall ignites his spark otherwise I'd thank him for what he did up until mid November and take him to Airbles Station.
  9. The goal, probably down to the circumstances surrounding it is my on field highlight. The home Euro ties were also special (latter stages when the crowds got closer to 9k) watching the Well in a t-shirt on a pristine pitch with free-flowing football. Sorry to say my lasting memory of this year is the yukky taste left in my mouth when I read on here the decision of two men who harped on about being gentlemen and highlighting their integrity, pulling a snide and murky piece of back tracking and double dealing. Granted I'm not furnished with all the facts and never will be however what facts I do have lead me to resent the way they behaved.
  10. Just had a look back at the thread when Craig and Archie were appointed, quite a lot of the same sort of stuff being said. Football history is littered with examples of managers who did well at one club, moved to another and failed miserably (Hodgson - Liverpool, Butcher - Australia/Brentford) and also vice versa (Billy Davies - Motherwell). Very few managers seem to have the Midas touch wherever they go (Mourinho, Hiddink mostly) and many can have a few good seasons before a lull sets in (Moyes - Everton, McLeish with Birmingham this season) or a few crappy seasons before it all turns good (Ferguson - Man Utd). Who is to say we'll won't get McCall on the up after his dip, like when we got it from McGhee in his first season. What the Well support have to grasp is our financial position and stature means we will always have to take a punt rather than going for a prior tested and approved product. Whither that punt is a youth player (McHugh), Manager (McCall), unknown from an obscure league/team (Humphrey) or Journeyman (Gow). Some will work out, some won't. I am for one impressed with his conduct and integrity when he left Bradford. Best of luck to him and I really hope we can get back to the stuff that had me looking forward to going to FP only a few months ago.
  11. A lot of twisted bile on here. Yes the team have lacked drive, ambition and guile recently - however that rot had set in before Craig left for pastures new. I did think that (knowing his personality) Youngie would have managed to instil some of his grit and passion into the players but I put a lot of it down to the wind being taken out of their sails by losing someone who apparently had committed himself to the club until retirement. Think about what that sort of message sends especially to the younger, more impressionable players. Leaving a team 3rd in the league a few weeks before with consistent European appearances to go to a club bottom of the table 150 miles away at 70. In his defence I for one can't explain how a defence that had so many clean sheets in a row has sometimes been so inept and woeful since that run ended. Our free flowing, counter attacking football from the first few months of this season has completely dried up. It would appear being a caretaker is a thankless task, especially when you play both the old firm and form team. Thanks Gordon, I really hope you have an opportunity to at least flip the bird at some of your detractors and at best meet them in an alleyway at 2am.
  12. Give them a break, they were too busy trying to work out who was involved in the Green Brigade protest on Remembrance weekend and ban them ...... 8 weeks ago .......
  13. I think Ferguson would always get a half decent gig (by which I mean higher profile than Well) due to the hope of Chairmen thinking of what they may get on loan via his old man.
  14. Encouraging! Not got any central defenders and midfielders they want to give first team football?
  15. That'll be the safest bet since the 9th of December I reckon.
  16. I think the bit in bold highlighted by Finlay shows why he is still regarded well by the fans. At least he is honourable, shows integrity and appears to have behaved like a true gent and fan of the club he managed. For me that's good enough to be the next Well manager. I hope by the end of January he causes a few to backtrack on here circa. 12 months ago after Brown was appointed.
  17. From reading through the Bradford thread I took it as this: His heart was in the right place and what was in his head didn't always translate onto the pitch Despite his up and down record, the majority of fans seem to still have a degree of affection for him I hope he hooks Brown up at Pittrodrie.

We're 3 points better off with 2 games in hand on last season (OK maybe 1 when you count Celtic away tonight). From the trends I can see we need approximately 10 points to maintain SPL status, even a complete fud could manage to get that. I expect McCall will do much better especially if one thing I remember about him is his fight and guile. Talk of relegation fodder is both wrong and unfair.
  19. A bit glass half empty there surely Brazilian. We do play in the same league as Accies and St. Mirren after all.
  20. If he's the best of a bad bunch who are willing to come to us after we managed their expectations then so be it. Not my first choice by any matter of means but obviously the board consider him the best of all the applicants who haven't told us where to go. If he is appointed over the next few days then we can only throw our support behind him. If it turns out to be a disaster then we can worry about that in the summer. We should have enough points already accumulated combined with another 10 or so from our remaining games to ensure our SPL status.
  21. Fair enough, the Well support will always be split on Gannon's 5 months or so in the hot seat. Its also fair to say none of us know what Boyle has said or made available with respect to funds for players to each of his previous three managers, so based on that Brown could have been in a position to bring in additional players to at least challenge the idea that Gannon is untouchable when it comes to finding gems. I understand Christian Dailly advised Brown about Randolph and for me he is a better player. If Casagolda hadn't been injured and was a revelation for us then perceptions may be different too. Long and short is, I don't know why he's even entered into this debate. It's a total non starter.
  22. Lets get some even appraisal of Gannon. Yes he came here and he said all the right things, stuff that all fans of every club like to hear and read in the papers ..... "I'm going to promote youth, I'll develop players to sell on for big money, a new footballing ethos within the club, I'm going to radically change our approach". All manna to the ears of the East Stand faithful. He had a good eye for a player, but lets be honest if any of us were playing in a 20 team league, facing 19 opponents with 11-14 players used in a match, then you'd at least identify 2-3 available targets from among 250, and that's without the backup of a scouting infrastructure and dossiers on opposing teams. For me he sidelined a few unquestionable club servants (dip in form or not, he went about it in a poor way), he focused attention on a spat with Hugh Dallas to deflect attention from a string of poor results and cover the fact he was quickly losing the dressing room as the players could see he had ambitions elsewhere (testament being when the team were informed, they started cheering). Does anyone think a return will immediately boost moral and team spirit? I think we should temper what he said in interviews with his actions and demeanour. I also think bridges were definitely burned for ever based on what happened last December and the fall out afterwards. Star Sail is also correct, to deny we are in a declining industry with a declining product is to behave like an Ostrich. In my opinion the quality and appeal of coming to Scotland to build something has diminished exponentially from 18 months ago when Gannon took the post.

I'm in a quandry, post on this useless thread and put it to the top of the list or not bother and let it drop down onto page 2 where it belongs. He did OK in his 20 minutes and appeared to be playing better than the majority of the rest of the team. He also appeared to take to the field despite having some underlying illness, credit for that in my eyes too. There is a growing list of starters who have consistently underperformed in the past 2 months and they would certainly merit a finger pointing thread more so than Hateley.
  24. I agree, what's the thought process of Sbragia? I'll go there and see what the score is and try and eek a more out of the Chairman even though its common knowledge he didn't give in to the previous boss when he insisted on it.
  25. I'm sure he's already bagged the best seat in the house for the Rangers game. Condolences and bests wishes, especially at this time of year.
