Is it Chania or Heraklion you are flying to? Heraklion airport is a good bit bigger and has a bar - but it's a pretty shit airport (Nikos Kazantzakis it's called). If you've got more than 3hrs your better off going into Iraklio itself. it's nice and is only a few miles from the airport

p.s the only thing i would recommend is that you stay near a metro stop - gets you about the city fair pronto. Green line takes you to Olympic stadium
