Completely agree with El Grew re the technical side and pass and move etc. Its 2009 and caoches in Scotland are still giving it the "if in doubt get it out" and "get it up the park" pish. Anyway as said, beaten by a far better team tonight, no complaints. I think gannon and the team will be fine for the SPL.

I actually thought he played Ok. Taking and giving, playing it tidy in midfield. Never expected a result from this game and put it this way, this is probably as hard a team as we will come up against all season. As someone said, the O/F would have a time against them. Their pass and move game is exactly what Scottish teams need to work on. Ruddy looks a cracking signing. Nice contrast between interviews. Gannon calling as it is, McGhee generally looking at excuses: fatigue, cobbled defence, etc. Although he did say "I have gone from legend to idiot".

The thing now is that the dynamic is changing with regard to young Scottish players and how their careers are moving on... In the past the old firm would sniff about, put in silly offers and often our hands would be tied to sell at a knockdown price due to lack of alternative or as it being seen as a kid's only chance at a crack at the big time. Recently however, we have seen English teams start to take an interest again and take a chance on our young players. Previously McCarthy, Easton et al would have gone to the o/f whereas now the spending power of the English clubs, even at championship level, can blow the old firm out of the water both in terms of transfer fee and wages. This is leading to us (and lets be honest the agents) getting more reasonable fees. The good thing from a Motherwell point of view is that over the past few seasons the club's profile has been raised for a variety of reasons. We are on the radar of clubs down south and we are now in a position where we have a certain amount of leverage with the o/f.

As far as Im aware the work on the park was succesfully completed mid-June and the only reason we aren't playing at Fir Park is to let the grass knit in for as long as possible as a (for want of a better word) "precaution". That was my take on it.

I would urge Mr Boyle to consider allowing the game to be played at Fir Park. Its only right that we play a team with the reputation of Steuea at our own ground. Besides, it will be played 6th August (near enough start of season) and wont be played on again until 22nd.

Feet are on the ground with this one. They have been in the UEFA semi's and C/L twice in the last couple of seasons. Think they got horsed in the group stages though. Basically, it will be like a Scotland v Romania game. Do-able but certainly won't be easy.

Goals were on Sky Sports News this morning. Forbes' second looks even better when you see it back. As someone said he does look like a young Ferguson. Just needs to bulk up a bit, but that will come in time. Jennings had a nightmare start but after that got stuck in. If I remeber correctly he picked out Slane with a cracking pass for his goal. Once he is fully fit will be a good addition for us. Best I have seen Murphy play, not just his goals but his technique etc. Defence is still a bit of a worry though, although the boy Hutchison gives us another option. Did quite well considering.

Ian Ross scored the winner at the Cooper end (I think). Scott Howie ended up with a depressed fracture of the cheekbone.

As said you just have to trust gannon's judgement. It goes the other way too...players like Juninho, Thomas Gravesen, Nono Capucho et al have not cut it in the SPL and these guys are seasoned internationalists.

Seriously though. Even if he is from league 2 he would be hard pushed to be as bad as some of the shite that is in the SPL.

Dont think anything could be done to Motherwell as they would just say they were given the impression he was out of contract. If it turned out we had to play compo., we could just cancel the transfer as it was an "unfair contract" on the player/agents part (ie withholding information etc). ????
