  1. He was just paraphrasing a much older quote from a famous statistician about statistics being like a bikini. "What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital"
  2. That makes absolutely no sense except for the precise scenario where we were a goal up and Dundee score with the last kick of the ball.
  3. Conor Sammon scores the winner and lifts his shirt to reveal a white poppy while celebrating by tossing a couple of Euros into a bowler hat.
  4. In the modern game, being comfortable with the ball at your feet, and good distribution are just as important for keepers as the actual goalkeeping part. Carson certainly has those attributes. Given that nobody ever came in for Randolph at his Motherwell peak, however, I have no idea if Carson will get his move. The goalkeeping market seems pretty weird these days - especially down south.
  5. Main hasn't stopped running, but he has noticeably stopped getting himself into scoring positions - and that is also a confidence thing. Strikers will often focus on other parts of their game when they lack scoring form, but that doesn't always help them get back amongst the goals. The great ones are happy to keep shooting until they start scoring again, and not worry about what they screw up. But those guys are few and far between.
  6. Aye, that's why he keeps talking about what a great player he is. Our recent track record is to extend the contracts of the youngsters around the middle of the season and I expect we'll be doing that with Turnbull soon.
  7. Maybe, but it's another couple of examples of Robinson putting youngsters into the first team. (And Hall did play in the U20s for a couple of seasons when he joined us at 16 years old).
  8. Or he could be the be Louis Moult and need a run of consecutive starts before he finds form. (And Fletcher would never have scored the goal Johnson scored against Rangers). Regardless, he has scored the same number of league goals this season as Bowman and Main combined. We need some kind of change up front. Strikers reach a point where persisting with them during a dry spell does them more harm than good. I think Main is close to that point. I imagine he'll still start next week, but during the international break they need to put him in a field with a set of goalposts and just let him keep shooting at an empty net.
  9. Doubt it. He needed a second op. Be amazed if we see him this season and just hope it's not a career ender.
  10. Defence hasn't been great mostly down to individual errors rather than any terrible tactics. We have lacked pace at times when Dunne has been out, but overall not terrible. The Bowman/Maon combo hasn't presented any significant goal threat since the start of the season. I don't expect a ton of goals from Bowman; his role is obviously the grafter - something that worked well when he had Moult beside him. Main is obviously lacking confidence and I think could do with a game or two in the reserves just to get his Mojo back. No doubt he is a hard worker and good off the ball, but we need someone that is scoring and, right now, that's not him. Hopefully one good game will turn his season, but if not, he might end up doing a Fisher - a guy that could score goals, but whose bad run finished his chances at Fir Park.
  11. Nursing a injury from the St Johnstone game, apparently - unrelated to the one that kept him out the previous games.
  12. The MFC TV commentators were joking that even though we have an actual Spaniard in the squad, as far as footballing attributes are concerned, Turnbull is the most Spanish player at Fir Park.
  13. I haven't quite worked out what his position has been the past couple of games. Nominally right back, but has been so advanced most of the time it's been more of an attacking midfielder. Maybe we have invented a new position - False 2. It has certainly worked.
  14. Lot of good performances today. Grimshaw is one of those players that gets better and better with game time. Thought he was excellent today. Aldred and Hartley dug deep when required, and Tait put in a good shift. Turnbull turned in the same level of performance he manages in the U20s/Reserves, but definitely benefits from having Bigi alongside. You can see they are on the same wavelength and a lot of Turnbull's excellent play was started by Bigi finding him with a pass. I'd give Turnbull man of the match just for his goal. We will need to be patient with him, though, as he will inevitably hit rough patches and need benched from time to time.
  15. If we are going for a back 4, I'm guessing Dunne is always going to be Robinson's choice for left back with a Hartley/Aldred central pairing.
  16. A few years ago I remember someone saying we needed to sell one player a season and bring through 1 academy player a season. On that basis we have done pretty well. As it turned out it has been some of our academy players we sold (like Hall, Henegan and Erwin). That skews our perception somewhat as those guys only had one (or part of one) season in the first team. Whereas the fact they were sellable after such a short spell shows we are doing Ok. You could make an argument that Kipre was another success of our development programme. I do still believe, however, that we need to overhaul the country's general approach to youth development.
  17. When Turnbull and Bigi are on form, we are lacking a striker with the same footballing brain to take advantage. Main and Bowman give us energy and power and link up play, but lack the nous of a Moult or a Higdon. It was no coincidence that Ciftci had his best game for us against Accies when Bigi and Turnbull were in the team. That is the type of player I was hoping we'd sign instead of Sammon - although I still have hopes that Johnson might give us that. Difficult to tell until he gets more minutes.
  18. Turnbull and Bigi in the same team has added a level of creativity we have been sorely lacking - even if our strikers haven't been able to take advantage. I don't know if other opponents will afford us that luxury, but it's been fun to watch them this week. Not something you could say about many performances this season. Fair play to Robinson for taking that chance.
  19. Well deserved 3 points. Only minor complaint is we should have scored more and made it more comfortable. Need our strikers to start taking their chances. 2 wins against 2 key rivals. Good stuff.
  20. Deserved goal from Turnbull. He's been class today. Great vision and the quality to back it up with his passing.
  21. I'm using Chrome on my Android set top box, and it's been a good streamt today.
  22. Aye, we've just been lacking a wee bit of composure with our final ball.
  23. On chrome, I'd try running it in an Incogntio Window. If you are on a laptop, Microsoft Edge usually works better than IE. Better team in open play. Dundee been dangerous at set pieces.
  24. Nah, Turnbull had a great effort that he just didn't manage to keep down.
