Celtic could easily afford our asking price if they really wanted Carson. The reality is, I suspect, Gordon will be first choice as soon as he's fit so they want a cheap option until the end of the season. How it would work in practice is a great question, and one I don't have the answer to right now. As I recall, though, it was one of the commitments that was made by the Society that "unusual" transfer decisions would require agreement from members (while "normal" business was left up to the Board).

While I'm generally in favour of the Board handling the transfer decisions, given our financial standing and the deals already executed this season, this is the kind of decision that should require backing by the Well Society membership. Given the time constraints involved, in reality, that means "no deal".

Pretty much this. It's a very unusual situation given the timing of Gordon's injury, the imminent closing of the transfer window and Carson's length of contract. Whatever we valued him at the start of the window should now have a 50% premium added to it + the value of how many league places we think he'll earn us this season. EDIT: How's Rohan Ferguson shaping up? Too early to take a chance? He's certainly had a lot of first team games, albeit in a lower league.

TBF, transfer discussions often don't involve managers talking to each other; it usually happens at the boardroom level. Robinson, for example, said he never spoke to Brendan about the Ciftci move.

I don't know why teams bother with the low ball offers. If there was any chance of us lining up an equivalent replacement, Celtic should make an offer for him and leave Carson where he is.
