  1. However, the odds of H,H,H,H,H,H,H,H,H,H,H,H are exactly the same as the odds for H,A,H,H,A,A,A,H,H,A,H,A.
  2. When kids are learning about probability, there's a classic experiment teachers often use. They split the class into 2 groups. First group tosses a coin 500 times and records the results. Second group writes down the results of what they think the results of tossing a coin 500 times would look like. Teacher is presented with both sets of results and has to identify which ones are from the actual coin toss. Teacher is always correct, because the actual coin toss generates sequences of events (such as 12 consecutive heads) that the "guessing" group never predicts. The group without the coin thinks that their results should be about 50/50 and consecutive heads or tails should never be in a sequence of more than 3 or 4. While a fair coin toss will eventually converge to 50% heads and 50% tails, that happens only when you approach an infinite number of coin tosses.
  3. It's not even that now. However, if we start the season with Moult and Tanner up front while we are looking for one more signing up top, it won't be a disaster. The fact that we do start the season with so many weeks before the window closes is another reason I hate the window.
  4. Phew. Glad we avoided that perilous home time to Dunfermline. Away to a Premiership team is obviously much better.
  5. He had a few shots, but didn't make it. Then he refused to go out on loan. And he failed to impress in multiple appearances in the first team. I wanted him to succeed, but sometimes it doesn't work out. That's true at many levels. Just look at Torres for Chelsea, for example. The next best case is we get a nice cut from a sell-on clause. Onwards and upwards.
  6. It was. The rest of his performance was typical early season - offside and kicking the defenders because he's a yard off the pace. Still think he'll be a good signing for them, though.
  7. Dundee looked much better 2nd half. Unfortunate Utd won the shoot out for the seeding. Dundee would be a tougher game.
  8. Nothing funnier than fans that give players dogs abuse starting to greet when the same players rub it in their face after scoring. Walker was great for us. I don't care what he did after that.
  9. Hearts were absolute mince yesterday and still drew with Dunfermline. Morton were one of the on-form teams last season (and made the play-offs) and we scraped a home win against them - as favourites. Any Championship team at home is an ideal draw.
  10. Still remember that goal against Brechin.
  11. Andy Walker was a great youngster when he played for us. I don't pay any attention to his media work.
  12. Maybe by the time he ended up at Fir Park he was past his best, but he was decent enough. At Hibs and Rangers, he was excellent.
  13. Same here. And he had a once in a lifetime level of talent. As always, time will tell.
  14. I thought that when I saw his youtube highlights. Shorter keepers always worry me - although big defenders can protect them to some extent.
  15. Nice to see them do well against the Championship, League One and League Two teams. Let's not forget, McHugh and Moore (and to a lesser extent Thomas) thrived at that level when we loaned them out. Like ourselves, the real test will be when the proper games start. Would be delighted, however, if Thomas is the next multi-million pound SPFL transfer target. I assume Erwin's sell-ons have expired, so he's OK to fail.
  16. Sounds like Moult doing his best to dissuade any scouts in the stand. Good lad.
  17. I'm fine if Fisher waits until the Rangers game before he hits his first three goals.
  18. We got dead lucky avoiding injuries and suspensions when we had success with a small squad, and that philosophy cost us dear in subsequent campaigns. First there was the injury crisis that ended with bringing in basically emergency signings under Baraclough. Then last season where Cadden and McHugh had to play in defence and we struggled to fill the bench. Robinson has done a decent job making the team younger though. Tanner 22, Kipre 20, Bigi 23, Griffiths 21, Dunne 24, and Heneghan's still only 23. Of course, time will tell if any of our U20s make the grade this year, but Hastie, MacLean, McMillan (and maybe Newall) could reduce the average age even further. No doubt we'll get a better idea of the relative strengths and weaknesses of our team and Killie's when we start playing for real.
  19. I think McCulloch's signing philosophy is "Can you play on plastic? Aye? Yir in!" That's one advantage Thomas and Erwin have from their U20 days.
  20. Robinson keeps talking about adding another "pacey" striker, so fingers crossed he pulls that off. Would be a disaster if that didn't happen and then we lost Moult at the last minute.
  21. I doubt any manager signs a player thinking "well he's not any better than what we have". It's far too early to tell if any of our new faces are going to contribute, but it's inevitable some of them won't. Every manager has their own style, and their own preferences, and sign players they think will make the team successful. However, we only have a finite amount of budget and sometimes "good enough" will have to do; especially if it's just for cover.
