You only need to watch the early rounds of the FA Cup to see a lot familiar names playing non-league these days. It's obviously for the money on offer, as the standard isn't exactly great. I enjoy watching it, as it offers an interesting combination of promising youngsters, old pros and guys that have found ther level - but there's a big drop off in quality.

That's how unfounded rumours start. There's nothing to suggest that his silence was anything other than the standard "we pay you off for being sacked and you say nothing bad about us" contractual obligation. Not to mention that Oldham's financial situation at the time (unpaid bills, transfer embargo etc.) was somewhat questionable, and Robinson would have insight into that that he would have been asked to keep quiet. Again, pretty standard contractual stuff.

Have you tried raising the issue to a Well Society representative? That might get a bit more action. -
The club will be following legal advice, not PR advice. No need to get drawn into a slanging match - particularly as the accusation is bullying. Can you imagine the negative PR if the club responded with anything that was regarded as an attack on the alleged victim? This story will likely have a much legs as the "Murderwell" story. Nobody will be talking about it by the time the league kicks off.

Salford City are also the team that Scholes, Giggs etc. bought into. All of these big spending non-league teams are bankrolled by rich owners hoping to be rewarded by making it into League Two - the money isn't coming from TV deals or crowds (Salford have a 5,000 capacity ground)

I see Adam Rooney is going to double his salary by moving to non-league Salford City. This is another great example of why it's so dificult for teams like us to compete even against the non league outfits in the transfer market.
-
Hopefully we get even more creative than that. First Team appearances, Senior International Appearances etc. all triggering more payments.

Making accusations on social media is a little different from sharing feelings. I'm not sure making potentially libelous statements on a public form is necessarily good therapy.

£20 sent. Was using a new version of the paypal app, but think I took care of the fees. If not, let me know and I'll get it fixed. Thanks, as always, for organizing. Always look forward to this at the start of the season.

Im sure the expectation is Carson will be gone either this window or the next. It feels like we have a good replacement, though. And given the money that Liverpool are offering for their goalkeeping target, that can only help inflate the goalie market!

What's that Mike Tyson quote? "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
-
So was it 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 we started with?

I think since Robinson made him a wingback he gets fined if he beats a man.

Trev played in the Darlington game. I think he took some time off to be with his wife when they were in Ireland, but don't think she was due at that point. Oh, and Frear - top man.

Looks like were stuck with intermittent tweets.

Still, at least the other 12 players put on a top performance that game.
-
Did he not score the winner the last time we played them? I seem to remember most of the starters having a stroll until Edinburgh opened the scoring.
-
Just because he was mince with us, doesn't mean he can't do better elsewhere. I'm sure he was a cheap option for Falkirk, so not a big risk for them and he could be their next Bob McHugh.

I know it's frustrating when new websites don't work, but I'd encourage anyone that has problems to first of all report it to the club, and secondly have a wee bit of patience. All the testing in the world doesn't prevent unexpected issues from popping up after you go live - and our club doesn't have the resource to spend on "all the testing in the world". -
That's true - but for the first few years, "successful" isn't a term that could be associated with most of our players.
-
I mentioned Tommy earlier in the thread, and that's exactly right. It took 6 years or so for him to build from "park the bus" to "win the cup". Mind you, I don't know how we find a Bobby Russell / Davie Cooper kind of player these days to move us forward.
-
Very true. When I saw Johnson's "can't miss from 2 feet" goal in his first game, I wondered what kind of player Fisher might have been for us if he'd scored from the same kind of chance in his first game. In the end, the pressure of not getting that goal pretty much finished his short Motherwell career.

We don't have the personnel to make use of other kinds of strikers, so were stuck with having backups that are like-for-like. I can see how it makes sense strategically. Ciftci had his best game (and last) game when we stuck some ball players on the park to support him. That was far too close to creative football to be allowed again
-
As I said, I'm not overly enthusiastic about him. However, just about every goal I see Sammon scoring on youtube involves him being played in from a pass on the deck. If the the idea is to play hoofball and use him has a target man, then I doubt it will work.

Took Tommy McLean about 6 years to move from being a bunch of (mostly useless) defensive cloggers to a "silky" team. Have no idea if Robinson would be even capable of that, but wasn't expecting to see it appear this season.
