  1. I'm guessing his role was created in anticipation of the Well Society taking over the club and engaging as many fans as possible to participate.
  2. The most cringeworthy title I have heard, and seems to be becoming more popular, is "Client Success Manager".
  3. I've been watching this mob so long now, every game is a "would be nice if we won, but won't let it spoil my weekend" game.
  4. Our record against "poor Hamilton sides" over the years isn't exactly stellar. Hopefully we will score more than once.
  5. Vigur's goal against Aberdeen was OK.

    Left Backs

I think McLeish has proved time and time again he is a decent coach, but terrible talent spotter. He tweaked wee Tommy's team's tactics and had them playing well, but then failed miserably when it was time to rebuild his own. The reason he got an easy ride from the media is because he was quite articulate and capable of dealing with them. That, plus his success as a player meant the average "how do you feel?" journo thought he was a genius.

McCloy left the club before I started going to games. It was his leaving that paved the way for McCrae. So I only remember him at Rangers. We got Bobby Watson and Brian Heron in exchange, so not a bad deal for us. Sproat was certainly entertaining and good keeper, but not the best I have seen. I remember one snowy day at Muirton where he had a mini snowball fight with fans while the play was at the other end.
  8. Even with investors who wiped out their bank loans and gave them a good deal on their debt, United ended up skint and relegated. I'm much happier with our current model.

    Left Backs

He certainly had all the skills to be a winger, including a terrific delivery of a cross. Very cultured left foot in an era when defenders were often cloggers.

    Left Backs

That too! Did he not end up in goals in his first game for us?
  11. And let the "Always come back to haunt us" confirmation bias begin....

Keith McCrae for one. Andy Goram was probably a better keeper overall than Randolph, but not when he played for us. None of that takes away from how brilliant Randolph was for us.

    Keith McCrae for one.
  14. The biggest problem in recent times was our policy to never pay transfer fees. Most of the good players from lower leagues were being sold rather than freed.

    Left Backs

For me, there was Joe Wark then everybody else. It's difficult to explain to anyone who didn't see him play just how good he was. Perfect timing in the tackle, crunching but fair, great game reading skills, precision curled passes up the left touchline time after time, picked up his first yellow card after about 15 years in the game. And to cap it all, used to entertain with his ball juggling skills if there was a stoppage in play. Tom Boyd started off in the middle of defence playing a sweeper type role, but really grew into the left back role when he became a little stronger and faster. Another one who had great game reading skills. Then there was Derek Murray whose main skill seemed to be standing 3 yards too far off his man and never quite being in the right place.
  16. I'm sure he was watched more than once to establish if he had more than zero ability. The one thing he does have in common with Higdon is that you also posted on here that Higdon was mince.

As good as they were, neither Ruddy nor Randolph would qualify for "best ever Motherwell goalie" chart even in my lifetime.
  18. I only want to read about free transfers of players called Ben. Can we put that in its own thread?
  19. Booooooo, Motherwell players getting international recognition. Boooooo! It's an outrage! Boooooooo!
  20. I think that's giving way too much credit (or blame) to an assistant manager. Oldham were awful last season, finishing 17th in League One - 8 pts above relegation. That's why Robinson got the gig.
  21. Upcoming Headlines: Cross Bowman Bowman Makes (defence of your choice) Quiver Bowman Arrow Hits Target for 'Well etc. Interesting that we lost a Fletcher and gained a Bowman (that's a joke for the interested reader)
  22. So it was made up by steelboy? The papers these days just print what they read on here. Like I said, the club never mentioned 1 million. If the papers had an off the record quote they would have used the term "a source close to the club". If they made it up they use the term "believed to be". Hope this helps. EDIT: oh, and never believe anything McGhee says about transfers or team selections. He's full of it (for the right reasons).
  23. Nowhere did we ever say we were asking for a million. I'd be happy if you proved me wrong.
