  1. I heard not only were we close to keeping Grimshaw, but a permanent deal was in the offing. Which makes it more disappointing - but that's the downside of loans. Sometimes you get a Grimshaw you want to keep, sometimes you get a Jake Taylor.
  2. Still a step up from the mince he was associating with last season though.
  3. It's still a step up from the SPFL play-offs.
  4. Long was playing against Man U at the weekend.
  5. Cooper and Russell in the same team. Not too bad. We also have them to thanks for Ross McCormack, Dom Thomas and back to guys like Vic Davidson who was a great foil for Wullie P. And almost, but not quite directly, Tommy Coyne. EDIT: Guys like Kenny Lyle too, but enough said about that.
  6. Lifted Baraclough's quote from last season, IIRC.
  7. I'd still like to see a list of players from other teams that meet the "brought on" criteria. I think it would be a pretty short list these days. Guys like Harry Kane are said to be a product of the Tottenham Youth system, for example, but he was at Arsenal when he was 8 and had a spell with Watford when he was 11 before joining Spurs at 11. Does that mean he doesn't count?
  8. Laing has more experience. I'd have him in there first.
  9. Are there any teams in the UK that have many players coming through the ranks that way? People (and players) move around a lot more freely these days and even at a young age have agents whispering in their ears about moving to enhance their careers. Just like there are almost no one-club-players these days, I suspect "through-the-system" players will be equally rare. For example, Jamie Murphy joined us when he was about 12 or 13. Is that young enough to be considered someone we brought on?
  10. Laing and Kennedy in a 5 man mid? Only half joking.
  11. Aye, rightly or wrongly, the current laws say "no standing". I was never in favour of that, and would happily support in changes that would reintroduce standing areas inside grounds. For now, however, fans no don't have a leg to stand on (no pun intended) when it comes to these arrangements as the law is pretty clear. The club turning a blind eye doesn't change the law, as stupid as we think that law might be.
  12. Wonder if Kennedy can fill that role. Regardless, if it was our new scouting system that found Grimshaw, then it shows it working and hopefully the same system will have identified similar quality targets. Losing a loanee in the window is always a risk, but it defnitely benefited both parties and hopefully other clubs will see the advantage in farming out their talent to us.
  13. Hope not. They are Sevco's feeder club these days. Wouldn't like to see him end up there.
  14. I imagine it will be closer to regular SPFL prices for this one. Maybe a few quid less.
  15. Sounds like you didn't understand the request to stand behind the yellow line. Maybe you were confused by the paint on the stairs.
  16. Who does that? Just scroll back a few pages to see someone complaining about a guy screaming abuse at Ainsworth yesterday for no other reason that he hates him. Josh Law has been the target for a long time too. It must really upset you when our players shake the opponents' hands after the game too. What are they thinking?!
  17. I'd rather have our fans applaudding the opposition than doling out needless and undeserved abuse to random Motherwell players they take an irrational dislike to.
  18. Having watched Sportscene, I'll still take Annan in the next round. Dunfermline looked tasty and unlucky not to beat County. (And the Hearts game next week is going to be tough.)
  19. He wouldn't make my first 11 in best 'Well players I've watched, and always felt he didn't quite fulfill his potential down south, but no doubt he has been a great servant to the club.
  20. It got to the stage even MJC didn't believe his own patter.
  21. Some poeple saying Grimshaw's deal hasn't expired yet, so not sure. Certainly haven't seen anything from official sources yet.
  22. I liked what McGhee said yesterday about the squad in general. Feels he needs 40 points or so in the league to be safe and after that he would like to start giving the youngsters more game time. For the Cup, he didn't think we were in a position to mix things up, so just carry on with what has been successful so far.
