The greater TV exposure (which I'm not convinced about) would be dependent on guys like Doncaster doing his job.
I doubt Ireland has had greater TV exposure since they switched to summer.
We have already played 2 games in July, Einstein. So our season is running from July to May. And the only month with no competitive games for us is June.
Feel free to point out the errors in that.
When Ireland switched to summer football, the attendances stayed the same.
The problem for me is still the number of games. We basically play from July until May. That means June is the only full month with no matches. If you translate into summer football it would mean playing from mid-Feb until December followed by a break in January and then back to pre-season in midwinter.
18 team league, 34 games, winter shut down, keep the same basic season. Sorted.
Hmmm? I said it was my favourite myth (as witnessed by the number of times it is raised in this thread alone). I didn't say who believed it; that's left as an exercise for the interested reader.
Of all the myths surrounding our club, this is one of my favourites.
Ojamaa, Higdon, Sutton, Vigurs, Lawson, Reid, Ainsworth, Josh Law, Twardzik, McFadden, Anier, Neilsen (off the top of my head) make this sound ridiculous.
I'd wait for the annual audit of accounts before assuming Utd. have paid off their debts. They have had other supposedly big money transfers in the past that haven't put them any place near that.
I agree McCall isn't exactly Gannon-esque when it comes to youngsters, but guys like Moore, Carswell and Leitch aren't exactly old timers. And Hutchy was the ripe old age of 23 when he left.
Not that I'm happy with our recent Cup performances, but if big teams in the EPL struggle with squad size and rotation to stay competitive in European, League and 2 Cup competitions, then we really have no chance.
We play a style that generally works well over 38 games, but can be exploited in a one-off. Changing style just for Cup games is unlikely to work, so if we are to succeed in that area we might need to change our entire approach (and, I imagine would basically mean being more defensive). That is a high risk strategy given the potential downside of less league wins and still getting papped out the cups.
Striking the balance between league and Cups is never going to be easy given our financial constraints, but I'd rather see league success than Cup success in the long term.
Starting point for me, as always, is avoid relegation.
Our league position the last couple of seasons has been impressive and, given the amounts our closest rivals have been spending in recent years, to be in the mix at the top end again would be quite an achievement.
A decent run in one of the cups would be very welcome.
Would also love to see guys like Erwin, Thomas etc. establish themselves as first team regulars.
Youtube can geolocate (which is why I can see SPFL highlights earlier) and they support live streaming, so in theory live video should still be possible.
The idea of making access free to all sounds like a good idea - as long as I get the refund for this season's subscription.
That's just Confirmation Bias at work.
You don't even need to look that far back to see a counter-example. We had to win our last 3 games to finish 2nd, and we took 9 points.
We have the same playing budget as last year and Faddy and Hutch (both higher earners I presume) have moved on. Why won't we be making any more signings?
And if we do, do we get to point the finger at people on here jumping to conclusions?
McCall was talking about bringing in players on loan a few weeks ago. I doubt that will have changed given that his budget is the same this year and we have already cut a couple of high earners.
However, assuming our loanees are from down south, we need to wait until the English clubs have finalised their squads.
Seems like a dodgy one according to MFC Twitter. Icelandic boy kicked Lasley's leg from behind and fell over.
Regardless - need to start converting a few chances and we'll be fine.
I use the Dolphin browser on my Android. If you are running Kit Kat, you need to install a custom version of flash. Lots of info on how-to if you google it.
I'd stick to Photon or Skyfire etc. for now. It's non-trivial to jailbreak your device and install xbmc. You don't want it bricked 10 minutes before kick off.
Aye, for non-jail broken iPad/iPhones I have used the Photon browser. I know lots of folks use skyfire too, but you'll need something along those lines.
If they do defend deep, then hopefully our ball players like Vigurs and Law, coupled with ZFA and Ainsworth out wide, will be able to crack them open.
Be interesting to see how both teams react if we get the first goal.
