I'd be surprised if we landed Shiels given that he is at that stage of his career where he will want (another) nice payday. But I'd be willing to give him a chance if we did sign him. McCall has done sufficiently well in the transfer market to earn my trust.
When you don't need to be at your best to beat teams and win games, your level drops. That is why it was a terrible move for guys like him and Law from a development perspective. And, as the old saying goes, if you're not improving then you're going backwards.
You develop by pitting your skills against players at a level as good as, or better than, yourself.
I hope that was autocorrect
But aye, it's a shame Moore is injured or he could have been staking his claim. Will be interesting to see who ends up replacing Anier, though.
Aye, Burke is at the stage of his career where he should be looking for a big pay day. Given the interest from other clubs down south in recent transfer windows, I doubt we could offer anything close.
If I had said that, you would have had a fair point. But I didn't, so as usual you are fighting a straw man.
However, I would imagine if, in the hypothetical being discussed, McCall brought in Goodwillie and Boyd after Law, Josh Law would be pissed off.
Aye, it's shame Moore is injured or could have staked a claim for that position at the start of season. Like you, would much prefer to see like-for-like than messing around with Ainsworth.
Given the way we financed Anier's deal, and (for us) the unusual length of his contract, we obviously planned to sell him on. Was expecting it to be later this season, but I guess we can't grumble at a few quid coming in. Especially as it seems McCall has his contingency in place.
I look forward to 317 pictures of the back of the chair in front, and the story of how he was kicked out of the for being blootered 30 mins before the draw started.
I don't think that not accepting berating someone for not thinking a player isn't very good isn't a good way to not discuss if a player is or isn't not good.
At 20, he is one of the youngsters. McCall obviously rates him and seems to like the fact he can inject some pace into the line-up.
No offence, but I'll take his judgement over yours.
You might be right.
Currently, we have Reid, Kerr, Ramsden, McManus, Hammell, ZFA, Cummins and Murray in the squad as defenders. So if we do bring in another body, we'll need to offload others I would think.
Kerr is more of a centre-half than he is full back. So we would be replacing like with like. TBH, if we were going to bring in any more new faces, I'd like to see them in the middle of the park.
We didn't play him in the first team, apparently, due the fee we would owe Celtic.
However, he is probably the most natural talent in the U20s. JJ says he has "continental feet"!
Not the complete answer, but Thomas and Erwin will hopefully take care of at least part of the forward/winger piece.
For centre half, I fully expect Kerr or Ramsden (or even Reid) to fill in there. Be surprised to see a new face.
Not Lionel Ainsworth, surely? He had 100% definitely signed for an MLS team before the end of the season.
I'm seriously starting to wonder if some the posts on here are just made up.
Careful. I was shouted down last season when I said it was disappointing to see him repeat the same mistake in the 2nd leg that he had made in the first. Apparently I was a moaner who should have accepted we were beaten by a better team.
We'll miss him, but he needed to move on to take the next step up in his career.
