It was an off the cuff remark in an interview, but when I heard McCall talking about signing a keeper on loan if Hollis required surgery, he specifically talked about needing to sign one "for the bench" rather than to replace Neilsen. If that's the case, then we won't be bringing attracting anyone looking to make a name for themselves in the first team.

The reason we lose more "big" games than little games is because they are, by their very nature, games against the better teams. However, you don't finish as high in the league as we have in recent seasons without winning your fair share.

When you build a team and its tactics on open expansive play, it's no surprise that they can't switch to more negative tactics a couple of times a season. I can somewhat understand it in a Euro game against superior opposition (although I don't necessarily agree with it), but in a league game when only 3 points are at stake, just go and play the style that has been picking up points and see what happens.

I think the partnership with Reynolds was greater than the sum of its parts, though, as Reynolds was a faster and a better player on the deck. I liked Reynolds when he was with us. 150+ games by the time he was 23, so although he had experience, he still had some rawness to his game. I think his improvement has continued since he left us and he has been one of Aberdeen's better signings.

The one positive is that I heard was Vigurs saying they were going there to win. Makes a change from the usual "We have to be at our best and catch them on an off day" patter. Be happy with a good performance, and a point would be a bonus. Just get in about them and see what happens.
