  1. I think the sash kit has more meaning to me because of the guys that played in it rather than the strip itself. It's iconic, definitely, but not one of my favourites.
  2. Having a sense of perspective doesn't make you a Happy Clappy - although it does tend to make you happier. We're having a relatively poor season; some of it undetstandable, some of it not. But you know what? When you look at helicopters crashing in Glasgow and trains crashing in New York, maybe trying to sign a couple of new players in January isn't worth losing too much sleep over. No doubt things will be shaken up, but be careful what you wish for or we could end up doing a Hibs for a few seasons.
  3. The worst cup defeat that sticks in my mind was getting gubbed by amateurs from Queens Park.
  4. I meant that I hoped he wasn't injured so badly today that he was out for a while again - I wasn't implying he was always injured. From twitter, it sounded like a nasty one.
  5. You certainly develop a perspective when you have been following any team for a long time. Undoubtedly we are on a downer, but it's not something that spoils my weekend any more. We lost the core of a team that took 4 years to build - I wasn't expecting much out of this season, and so far that's exactly what has been delivered. Not that I'm happy about overall performance, and we definitely need to continue the rebuild in the next window. I know there is some good money associated with difference in a league position or two, but if nothing else, we have a little bit more leeway to play the Moores, Leitches, Erwins (if he's not crocked again) into the first team.
  6. It's not the worst result in my memory, never mind our history. It's a stinker, no doubt, but I have endured worse.
  7. Aye, but at least we haven't heard "punching above our weight" recently. Been a problem that I have talked about since day one this season. Our strikers are the only ones that are scoring. The midfield is lacking in creativity and, more importantly, chipping in with goals. Without looking it up, Sutton must have just about scored more than Lawson, Lasley, Ainsworth, Vigurs, McFadden + ZFA cobined.
  8. This is why we get pennies for our players while our rivals get the pounds - they talk them up, we put ours down.
  9. It's up there, but it's no Queens Park. Financially, it's possibly worse. Loss in revenue could cost us a wage or two.
  10. November seems like a reasonable time to offer a contract - especially as it seems the club was expecting to move him on last summer.
  11. Put a white collar on it, and I agree.
  12. Great to see our strikers scoring again today. We really need our midfield to be chipping in with a few more to help them out. Good day at the office.
  13. Nooooo. I do like this effort, but the last Adidas is still one of my favourite strips of all time (despite the lack of hoop and the slightly off colours). Probably because it coincides with some of the best times I had following the team up and down the length of the country.
  14. If you mean in The Cooper Stand, I think that's harsh.
  15. Aye, it was something like that I remember. Definitely involved complaining neighbours.
  16. I'm not sure if it had to undersoil or just a heating system. However, I do remember Killie having issues in the recent past with system failures. And wasn't there some problem when the neighbours complained about one set up being too noisy due to industrial fans or somthing? All moot of course as game is on.
  17. Of course that might just be the Estonian pronunciation of what seems to be a name with French origins.
  18. I'm always willing to take on the Summer Football debate, because apart from not agreeing with it, I just don't see how it would work. The only month we don't play football in Scotland is June. Friendlies start in July and then it's full steam ahead until the following May. Every 2nd year, there is a World Cup and Euro Championship that takes place in the summer. With the ever larger expansion of those competitions, that means a 4 week minimum (plus mandatory FIFA/UEFA release time for players) shut down. Then you throw in the weather. If it's so crap to play in our winter months, when are the players going to have their pre-season? More importantly, where are they going to have their pre-season? For me, I'd much rather stick with a January shutdown, get a 16 or 18 team top flight (play each other twice) and get proper terracing back than be able to play 4 games in June every 2nd year. Oh, and I don't buy the "well they do it in Ireland" argument. The reason they tried it in Ireland is because it's about the 3rd or 4th most popular sport and they had trouble competing. Also, when they made the switch to summer football, the attendances did not increase. And don't get me started on what happens to clubs who manage to make it to the later stages of the European competitions Rant ends here. We now return to your regular programme.
  19. The Academical Vaults (or whatever it's called these days) is close too.
  20. Was having a guy in charge who was sacked by Wolves and Brighton any better? How about having a guy in charge who was sacked by Coventry and Sunderland? Or a guy that left Preston by "mutual consent"? Or a guy that left Bradford by "mutual consent"? Given that we don't pay money for players or managers, anybody we get is going to be out of work (which 99% of the time means newly sacked).
  21. The Times said Kenny Black was putting a number of players through their paces while McCall was on international duty - with particular focus on the guys who haven't had much game time recently. "A mini pre-season" was the phrase used.
  22. There's where the creative accounting comes in. They will no doubt use the Hollywood bookkeeping method to generate a paper loss, and pocket the remainder. Simple
  23. Aye, it's always a shame when the Chairman goes for the money rather than an increased chance of winning the tie. Unfortunately, the economics of the game these days mean it's almost inevitable.
