  1. That's it in a nutshell. Everyone knows by now that you can't let off smoke bombs inside any SPFL ground. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the regulation, you can't argue it exists. Moreover, after all the good work done by the bois (and the club) to promote themselves and gain wider acceptance at away grounds - this is a backwards step. If the club is fined, that just makes it even worse. None of that excuses heavy handed policing or stewarding - some common sense needs to be show by them too. But why even give them the chance?
  2. Saints have never forgiven us for that famous Cup game where they felt we kicked them of the park (which was ironic given their style of play at the time). We could play like Barcelona and they wouldn't give us any credit for it.
  3. Lawson apparently played at right back a few times in his brief Celtic career.
  4. In the 2011 report, Scots adults buy 23% more alcohol than their UK counterparts. So there is definitely a difference once you cross the border. We can argue whether that leads to worse behaviour at a game (and statistically you would think it at least increases the risk), but there is definitely a difference between Scotland and England.

He wouldn't have been sacked though (given that he didn't have a contract). He joined on an agreement to stay until the end of the season. There was nothing agreed beyond that point. His track record was not good in building teams or developing clubs - and that wasn't an issue, because it was never part of his brief. I have no problems with the job he did in his initial spell, but would have preferred new blood (like a McCall) as soon as possible after that.

I always said Brown should be have been punted at the end of his first season. He did the job he came for (to add a wee bit of stability), but was a poor decision to keep him on after that as he was never the man the take the club forward.
  7. There no such thing as a bogey team in terms of luck (or voodoo or whatever you want to call it), but there are definitely teams who play a style that we find difficult to beat regardless of their current form. St. Mirren have been one of those teams in recent times, as have Kilmarnock.

Aye, a dig around the internet shows that he officially joined us on May 17th 2006 and was given the boot on June 1st, 2007. So he did have a full season in charge. In which case his SPL points average was exactly 1 per game (38 from 38 games).
  9. They can't be trusted though. They have the right, but they can't be trusted. Granted it was a few years ago, but the last Milwall game I was at (where booze was on sale inside the stadium), a large group of their fans ripped off the seats and started chucking them onto the pitch at the end of the game.

I honestly don't remember - I seem to have blanked out that season! Now I'm at home I'll have a poke around the statto sites.

Quite possibly, but it was all I had access to via the office VPN.

That would be true if the stats I looked at hadn't read that he won 10 and drew 7 from 35. By my reckoning that is 37 points from 35 games. If wiki has those stats wrong, then I take no responsibility

Malpas has a better win% but lost over half his games in charge (losing 18 out of 35) Gannon has a slightly weaker win% but lost less than a third of his games in charge (losing 5 out of 17) Gannon had a better points per game stat (1.18) vs Malpas (1.06). EDIT: That's based on the stats on wiki, but I imagine they are correct.

He did some good things. He did some crap things. The team was better when he left it than when he inherited it. It's all history now.

Aye, and McCall could have someone else doing his managing for him.
  16. I think they run that Alzheimer programme for us.
  17. Probably end up in the "Transfer Thread - Other than Motherwell's": up the corridor, first door on the left.
  18. We've got freedom of speech here if that's what you mean. None of that "you can't say nasty things at the football or you'll get arrested" crap. (Obama's not even as liberal as Cameron, though)
  19. I gave Kirky the benefit of the doubt in the Cup Semi against Celtic, so I'll give Lee the same!
  20. Not sure if this is the best thread so mods feel free to move it. But here are Erwin's goals from the weekend. Two sweet strikes, but the second must already be a contender for League 1 goal of season. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6La9SbOEHBw
  21. That's exactly the kind of sentiment a progressive family club like ours is trying to portray.
  22. Panic signings tend to happen towards the end of the window.

I use Dolphin browser on my Note 2 and it works fine. I did need to enable Flash in the settings.
  24. Aye, but none of that has anything to do with the original contention that Butcher's signing ethos is better than McCall's approach.
