Congrats to the winners and a big thanks to Brazilian for taking care of the necessary again this season.

In the modern footballing world, contracts (especially for managers) are meaningless. They get fired on the whim of the board and they walk out when they get a better offer. Rightly or wrongly, it's standard business practice and they are only relevant in regard to what compensations is received when the firing/walkout occurs. They never prevent either event from happening.

To be fair, they did answer a number of those points at the Well Society meeting - in particular about the league reconstruction. Whether you believe it or not is a different story, but a number of clubs see the merging of the governing bodies, improved voting strucutre and the redistribution of funds as a positive part of the bigger picture. The idea being that for a 3 year period, the more equitable distribution of wealth will give the lower league clubs more opportunity to grow. At the end of 3 years, the league structure is up for discussion again and the hope expressed was that the lower league clubs would then be in a better financial position to join an expanded top flight. If all that is true, then it is a reasonable position for me. The issue lies around the interim structure. There are clubs (and Aberdeen was mentioned as one) who still see themselves as Johnny Big Shots, who see things as of they were part of the OF and tend to vote the same way. Add to that that potential sponsors are said to want change to the league format, and that is where the fun begins. If I was given 100% assurance that after 3 years the top league was guaranteed to be expanded, I could live with the new proposals, as there are plenty of positive changes that are in the pipeline. If not, then the club could be voting itself out of existance.

I'm confident if we score at least 4 we will get a result* *result might include a draw

Or maybe he's having to wait until top 6 is guaranteed before the details can be finalized (just like the players). He made all the right noises earlier, so I'm not too worried, but this is Motherwell - if he goes, he goes and we'll carry on regardless. What is interesting is that, after all the doubts and complaints when we hired him, so many people are worried he's going to leave.

The big difference in Spain is that the parent teams have no intention of moving to a different country. I'm not against colt teams per se, as long as there are strict rules around them (no prize money, no transfers outside window, can't play in the cup, no promotion, no tv money etc.). I am, however, against OF colt teams, as they obviously just want to have their cake and eat it if they ever manage to bugger off elsewhere.

If the SPL and SFL merge, then surely it's up to all the clubs in the new body to decide?

On MFC TV the other day McCall basically said that he has talked to all the players' agents and is aware of who is interested in re-signing and hinted that at least a couple of players will be leaving (which isn't a big surprise). He added that, until we are guaranteed top 6, the board can't make any firm offers. It sounded like they are already actively looking for replacements, as he also mentioned that he was talking to the agents of prospects more often than he talked to his wife. I would imagine that Law is one of the players likely to leave and I have never had an issue with players moving to any team they want to (OF or otherwise). We'll bring in a replacement and keep moving forwards like we always do.

MLS salaries are pretty meagre (by footballing standards). Apart from the "Beckham Rule" where teams are allowed to offer over the odds for a star player, the vast majority of guys are on less than a hundred thousand dollars a year and a significant portion under fifty thousand. Interesting breakdown here

Depending on what version you use and on what phone, you might have to tweak one of the advanced settings. For Opera Mini you need to go to the Advanced Settings and set User Agent to "desktop". That will make it show regular versions of websites. If you set User Agent to "mobile" you will get the mobile skins.
-
If you install a browser like Opera, it let's you view the regular site rather than the mobile version. Then you can follow (and post to) Shoutbox.

We have a financially stable club who are going through one of the most successful periods in their history. And while I'm not defending them on this issue, all this "board is incompetent" stuff is clearly not true.

I wasn't there, but as far as I know the club included it in their presentation at the last Well Society meeting. In particular they mentioned that Aberdeen were the club who thought they were one of the big boys and scuppered votes. This made the league reconstruction proposals more attractive to teams like us because the straight majority rule was a guaranteed part of the package. So if and when they were adopted, as long as 7 clubs wanted to change the distribution of funds, it would be carried.

Drop Derek Johnstone and that would be a decent team. Those were the days when guys like Hansen could play for Partick Thistle and get snapped up by a top Liverpool team.

I think this is exactly it. McCall has mentioned on a number of occasions, that with such a small squad, he often needed to bring in versatile players rather than specialists. Same reason he brought in guys like Kerr and Ramsden. Daley seemed to fit that bill, plus he brought experience to to the squad - he just hasn't worked out. It happens to best of managers and players.

Fair play to big guy. Always seems to deal with criticism the right way regardless of how warranted it was, and now grabbed his own bit of Fir Park history. Hope he sticks around.

I resent any accusation of logic in my postings - I'm one of those overseas posters who's not even a real fan! However, the point about Vlad being bankrupt remains. I hadn't read much in the way of facts about his bank's downfall and it was an interesting article.
-
Vlad is so broke he's going back being a taxi driver. I agree it's a rip off - it's also a sign of how desperate Hearts are right now.

McAllister always reminded me of Lennie Bennett (but I guess that's an age thing)
