The bottom line is that the General Manager is typically responsible for implementing the will of the Board. If there are problems at the club (and we can all see there are), then it's the Board's responsibility to identify the strategy to address them, not 'Flow's. I had my doubts about 'Flow's qualifications for the job, but the issues on the park are not related to that and neither are the financial issues that pre-date his promotion.

The Board (and Boyle) had complete oversight to budget and, in general, the way the club was run. Our current position was a collective effort.

I think we have just been hit by statistical probability. The last couple of seasons we fared better than average with injuries, this season worse than average. We just suffer more because of the small squad numbers. Although it's probably true that when the team is struggling, players are less likely to be motivated to play through the niggles.

I don't know what planet you normally watch football on, but if any manager takes over a struggling team (with 5 or 6 injured players) and no chance yet to bring in new faces, it's unlikely there is an immediate turnaround. If he continues to win 50% of his games in charge, we'll stay up.

Also a different sport, but there a number of American Football clubs over the years who switched to astroturf and switched back to grass pretty quickly because of the extra injuries it was causing - mostly due to players' feet 'sticking' when they turned sharply and causing ankle and knee problems.

I'm not against any moves the new boss makes. Just saying that half the match threads are filled with moans about Josh Law being lower league mince and Vigurs/Ainsworth/ZFA/Whoever never tracking back and therefore being "a waste of a wage".

A non-league player that doesn't track back. That might be just enough to push some of the posters on here over the edge.

That's why Scottish (and most British) footballers struggle to compete at the top level against players who train like athletes. It's also why guys like John Collins and, more recently, Felix Magath face rebellions any time they try to impose healthy training regimes. There are exceptions, but they are rare.

Regardless of the pros and cons, I think the slope prevents any consideration of laying an artificial surface. I don't remember the figures quoted, but when the pitch problems were being addressed (partly due to the slope), someone in the know posted the details and it was a deal breaker.

So you judge Kenny Black's ability to follow Ian Baraclough's directions based on his stint in a holding role as temporary manager that was forced on him due to circumstance (and which he said in public he didn't even know that he wanted)? I'm not convinced it's lack of fitness this season as much as lack of confidence. It happens to different teams at different times - they lose form as a group, hesitation creeps in, they lose a yard, they are scared to challenge. Just look at Everton this year to see another example; a team that was flying last season has been mince despite the same boss and mostly the same squad to choose from.

Certainly be interesting to see how that pans out. The new gaffer seems to want to implement a more pressing style, but not sure how that will be adopted away from home.
