  1. "Hardest League in the World" might be a great slogan for WWE or Rugby, but not a great advert for football. And while many of the top players are undoubtedly great athletes, their athleticism is a complement to their ball skils, not a replacement. We both know that if any Motherwell defender breathes on guys like Lafferty the wrong way, Rangers are getting a free kick or penalty. I'm with Orinoco on this. We need to be focusing on skill and technique. It's much easier and more productive to bulk up a talented kid, than take a clogger and teach him ball skills. Look at how well Rangers fared against mediocre European opposition this year to see how well their approach works.
  2. Aye, you are right - I got them the wrong way round. It was a peach of a reverse pass that sent Walker in, too. You are also right about painful semi-final defeats. It did make the cup win even sweeter though.
  3. It was a close call, but when Smith's went in, I felt the comeback was on (not that we deserved to be 2 down at that stage). I wasn't sorry to see the square goalposts get replaced at Hampden after that penalty shoot-out!
  4. As usual, you are adopting contrary positions for arguments sake. One minute you are saying Higdon is useless. The next you are saying he scored 17 goals last season, but it didn't help the team. If useless players score 17 a season, I'll take useless thanks.
  5. Little consolation, I know, but losing to another SPL side isn't nearly as bad as Rangers, Hearts and Aberdeen all getting papped out by lower league teams.
  6. He did deal with it. That wasn't the question, though.
  7. At least when it comes to the East Stand, it must be close.
  8. I agree with this and the sentiments of the orignal post. Hibs are no mugs, and with the budget to bring in guys like O'Connor and Griffiths (and more during the next window, no doubt) will soon be up amongst the mid-table battlers with the rest of us, fighting for top 6. I am a little concerned though that McCall did say he would need to blood the youngsters as they would be key as the season progresses. So far, that hasn't really happened. Of course, you can argue that with the start to the season we have had, there is no reason to mess with the team. Again, last night, while personally I would have swapped a couple of players to freshen things up, asking the team to go and redeem themselves isn't a horrible tactic. However, from what I have seen, there are definitely a couple of players who would benefit from a week or two on the bench, and enough depth to replace them. It's times like this when managers earn their wages. A few bad results and now it's up to McCall to turn it around for Saturday. Certainly not as disastrous as some posters are making out - losing a League Cup tie to another SPL side isn't exactly a coupon buster.
  9. Didn't agree with it, but I could understand the logic. Definite need for some fresh faces now though. No excuses.
  10. Aye, it would be much better if the ref blew for full time whenever we take a lead.
  11. It's the modern way Busta. One footed players, and managers who love to play them in the wrong position.
  12. I only saw the highlights. but the problem on Saturday seemed to be that we started with Plan B.
  13. Bruce Cleland's 50 yard effort at Love Street - we still lost, but it was a cracker. Andy Walker's goal against, I think, Brechin, that secured promotion out the First division. Too many of Wullie P's to mention. Alfie Conn's first goal for the club against East Stirling; a delicate wee lob. Brian McLaughin's against Accies after running half the length of the park and beating about 7 players along the way. Paul Mill's last minute effort against at Dunfermline. Paul Smith's goal in the League Cup semi against Celtic. There have been so many it's difficult to choose a favourite. Oh, and Andy Lynch's double against Celtic

How long have you been sitting on that one?
  15. He might still be injured, but it's also true that some people are just crap at jumping. However, just because you are tall doesn't mean you thrive off the high ball. Higdon's strengths lie elsewhere. He is a bit like Porter - a good link up player, a natural goal scorer and, by SPL standards, a wee bit slow. You only need to see how many he banged in for a poor St. Mirren team to realise that he can definitely cut it at our level. From the highlights and live games I have seen, he does seem to be isolated far too often. Whether we are pressing or playing counterattacking, he needs support.
  16. I think they released them at the end of the season. I have definitely seen them.
  17. So maybe we should have tried against Celtic instead of putting all our eggs in this basket.
  18. Vidalia + Firefox + Foxyproxy. Takes 15 mins to configure then it's all free. One of these days I'll get around to posting exactly how to do it. As far as the game goes - oh crap.
  19. I roll this one out every time the subject is mentioned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbWn204p6og "I Love This Town" - Used it for the MLB playoffs a few years ago. Simple tune a crowd can sing (esp. the chorus).
  20. English clubs can't lend out players to SPL on one month deals - it's against the rules (regardless of salary).
  21. Easy Here comes Omar Daley, He's Jamaican, not Israeli, He plays the ukelele, But never, ever gaily (not that there's anything wrong with that). I'll leave the melody to someone else.

With their history of not paying bonuses, I guess he's on 2.7k total
  23. When it comes to sectarian bigotry, Scotland is a backward country. You can try and take context out of the discussion, but anybody with an IQ bigger than their shoe size knows that taking a Union Jack to a Celtic game is different from taking one to Last Night of the Proms. All this "but it's just a show of Britishness" is at best, disingenuous. I'm all for freedom of speech and 100% believe you should be allowed to display whatever flag you like. However, freedom of speech also gives me the right to say it drags us down to the OF level; something I don't want to be associated with my club.
  24. Sub-editors everywhere will be delighted. "Hibs Given Daley Lesson" "Win Bonus Earns Daley Bread" and when he gets his first hat-trick "Three Times Daley" etc. etc.
