    New Owners?

Turns out all that happened is John Boyle accepted an offer from a French Polisher to buff out a scratch on the table in the board room.
  2. I think that was secondary. Primary was that he wouldn't cost any money to bring in. I would imagine he'll be waiting to see what is actually put in place first. More importantly I don't think he is rash enough to judge McCall at such short notice. The test is what happens over the summer.
  3. We need more than 1 player for each position. Just because we signed a left-back first, doesn't mean that is the only area McCall is trying to fill, or that it is even his top priority. It just means it was the deal he could get tied up first.
  4. Interestingly, in my gmail folder the header reads: "New Signing - Motherwell News 'Well Complete Gunning Signing Chris Porter" Wonder if they are working on an email for our new striker too?

    Semi Final

Our recent record against Rangers is so poor that I don't even bother trying to find an internet stream when we are playing them these days. Despite that, if I was back in Scotland, wild horses wouldn't keep me away from a Cup semi. These are the only competitions we have any realistic chance of winning and we'll beat that mob sooner or later. (Probably later, right enough, but you never know )
  6. Wee Tommy is a better manager than McGhee - tactically, very astute. His team would win that game 8 times out of 10.
  7. No interims for me. After the last two contractless managers, the situation was crying out for a bit of stability and a boss with a 2 or 3 year deal in his back pocket. I can't see many candidates that meet our criteria that are going to be available at the end of the season. McCall was handed a difficult job, and if he keeps us mid-table until the end of the season and builds something over the summer, that will keep me happy.

    Perth

Must have been. Cold, wet and miserable - as only Dumbarton can be. And to top it off, a 0 - 0 result which was also on Scotsport that night. (Back in the days when if, BBC or STV wanted to show English highlights they had to show highlights of a Scottish game that was being played on the same night).
  9. Some interesting (and controversial) options discussed in today's Scotsman As for last night, I'm with fatcalf. If there is a fixed timeline for the creation of an expanded league then I could just about buy into that. Otherwise it will just be a sop to the fans and clubs that are demanding expansion and will never happen.
  10. 5000 miles away is an even poorer argument. I have seen plenty of bad keepers at Fir Park - John Gardiner being the worst - and plenty of bad players in every other position. I have yelled abuse at some of them and laughed at others. The horror of Smith gesticulating at some mouthy fans doesn't even register on my outrage scale. Fans that can dish it out, but can't take it, makes me laugh though.
  11. Poor argument. Even if it was true that his wages were funded 100% by the set of fans that yelled dog's abuse (which they were not), you'd have to be a precious wee petal to become so outraged at the minor retaliation.
  12. You know it's not baseball season? Make sure you find a good bar for the Jets Steelers tonight!
  13. Maybe in a thread not dedicated to transfer talk?
  14. He's a big boy, he'll get over it.
  15. Oh come on. It has given you another opportunity to come on here with your Victor Meldrew impression. How can that be disappointing for you?
  16. EEC? You've been out the country too long, my friend. It's the EU now. There are a few FIFA/UEFA rules that would fall foul of EU laws, but football has been granted some exceptions. I guess this must be one of them.
  17. To be fair, we have been pretty astute at working our way through the loopholes of cross border transfers in the past few seasons, leaving more than a few English clubs ranting about how we ripped them off.
  18. Because, the English FA at least, regards that as an exception to the rule. "An FA spokesman said: ‘Emergency loans don’t count when calculating the number of clubs a player has played for as he remains under contract to his parent club.’"
  19. Whether that is true or not, the board has a long standing philosophy of not paying transfer fees. I can see the logic in that as it frees up more funds to pay wages. Guys like Skippy and Porter have been brought in this way and been very salable, as have players developed by our youth system. So it's difficult to argue against it's effectiveness.
  20. "This rule dictates that a player can be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season but can only play for two of them — with the sole exception of a move between clubs with overlapping seasons." Does the SPL starting before the EPL not count?
  21. In a nutshell. The reason we have gone for managers who can bring in loans and frees from the English lower leagues is because any decent lower div player in Scotland usually requires a transfer fee.
