  1. Doesn't surprise me as the Saints are a pretty decent attacking side. Fortunately their defence isn't as good, so if we keep at them more goals will follow* *or maybe not
  2. If the future of the SPL is sitting on a wee plastic seat in a lego stadium watching a game on a plastic pitch then count me out.
  3. Best record I can remember is when Davie Hay was the manager. We lost the first game of the season away at Killie and then went, I think, 20 games undefeated before finally losing (a derby game at Douglas Park).
  4. I don't mind that the guy was successful with his appeal. Hughes comments annoy me though: Aye, right John. So the fact that the JOB was quick enough to avoid getting his ankle broken makes it a less dangerous challenge. It's no wonder that players struggle with the rules when their managers don't know them either.
  5. You're right, of course. And the old memory is going because I had another name in my head and I can't remember who it was.
  6. It was , but during his first stint with us he appeared to be 'hard but fair'. His decline into 'bit of a thug' seemed to start shortly after he went to Ibrox. Of course, I could be looking back through C&A specs
  7. A few players ended up taking that route in those days. Tom Boyd and Andy Walker spring to mind, but other clubs sold their players using a similar approach.
  8. Cracking player the first time around. Was one of my favourite players as a kid.
  9. It's not the concepts that are difficult, it's the implementation. The same reason as kicking a ball is simple, but somehow you're not playing professional football.
  10. If he's that good he'll get an England call up.

    John Ruddy

He's not a keeper, though. In fact the last team stupid enough to sign Barton were stupid enough to sell Shay Given. Nobody is spending big money on keepers these days. Ruddy's club picked up their Slovakian international goalie on a Bosman.

I doubt anybody would pony up even 1 million for McGregor given his now, well established, reputation as an eejit.
  13. I doubt that would have been practical as I can't imagine the SPL and SFL scheduling for our benefit.

    John Ruddy

He says his preference would be to head back down south, so I doubt Rangers would be his choice.
  15. Have you even read this thread? That article pretty much sums up the majority of responses on here.
  16. Maybe he he was involved in the sad death of dummy text.
  17. It's nothing to do with being 'even all over'. It's to do with the plastic grass and underlying surface producing more friction against the boot. Plus, it's one thing having a kick about for an hour once a week, but plenty of managers have complained that playing and training on an artificial surface leads to problems like back injuries. It is just possible that the people that make their living from playing the game no a wee bit more than the punters that enjoy an occasional kickabout. And if they were that great, why aren't we seeing them across world football? They are rarely used even here in the US - home of everything plastic.
  18. There are plenty of players who have been injured on artificial pitches without ensuing lawsuits, so I presume the answer to that is no. I know it's a different game, but the New York Jets and Giants laid a state-of-the-art artificial pitch a few years ago. It was ripped up pretty quickly as the players were picking up more injuries than they did on grass, mostly due to studs sticking in the turf and wrecking their ankles/calves/knees/thighs when they turned.
  19. No. Players hate them and there are many managers and coaches who believe that their long term use increases player injuries.
  20. It didn't have to meet your lofty standards. I was just responding to the accusation that I had no information on the situation because of (the boring old chestnut) that I live in the USA. It was the opinion of someone who generally has a pretty balanced view on games. I'd take that over some of the first had drivel that is regularly posted in these threads.
  21. I have had a first hand report already from a 'Well fan at the game. Sorry to burst your wee bubble and make you look even more stupid, but that's the risk you take with uninformed posting.
  22. Because retaliation is generally regarded as a red card offence. That's why every manager/coach tells his players that when someone does that to you, you stay on the ground.
  23. I expect a new thread about how poor the ref was today - particularly in not showing O'Brien a red card. Terrible decision that may have earned us 2 extra points. I doubt we will be talking about that 20 years from now.
  24. Try looking about 3 posts further up the page. No wonder you didn't get the dominoes joke
  25. Ruddy doesn't exactly say anywhere in that BBC interview that he is keen to stay. Not that I blame the guy, but it sounds like he'll be off like a shot if any decent English club makes an offer.
