Ireland switched to summer football and their attendances remained static. So even if it improved the product (which I doubt), it had no effect on the revenue being generated. And they don't have to cope with domestic teams making it to the group stages of the Europa or Champions League, far less have players shooting off to World Cups and Euros.

Except in the US where the SPL ESPN games are still shown on Setanta. We get EPL games on ESPN, but they somehow managed to keep the SPL on the subscription based channel.

The point is to reduce the number of games so we can have a winter break without any fixture backlog. 36 or 38 games is too much for a wee country like ours.

At the start of the season I said that finishing 8th or 9th and building a more stable platform for next season would be a success for us. After all the turmoil pre-season (and now mid-season), that still holds true. Anybody who thought we would be challenging for anything more than mid-table after the overhaul of the team during the summer was always going to be disappointed. If we make it into the top 6, that will be a pretty decent achievement.

Increase the number of teams in the league to 16. Play each other twice. Winter break for a few weeks.

I'd prefer the first step to be the season ticket letting you in to every home game - league, cup and friendlies. I can live with not including Euro games, but the others should always be included.
