"Punching above your weight" suggests that you are performing at a higher than your talent should allow.
I think the deal is they need to be signed before 5pm and have the paperwork sent to the SFA or FA before midnight. It doesn't matter if it's processed later than that.
It doesn't have to be financial, and it doesn't even have to mean the guy isn't regarded as a good player. He might just not fit in with the system that JG likes to play.
