  1. They could write them, but they would be immediately rejected by the editor due to poor grammar, spelling or basic comprehension of the English language. And yes, I know there will be a couple of errors in this post
  2. I don't care what the age is. I care how they approach the game. I like to see passing and movement. Lumping long balls and hardworking headless chickens are not for me.
  3. And it's that attitude that has kept Scottish teams uncompetitive in Europe and at international level in recent times. Once you step up to a decent level, basic technique wins out over grinding most of the time. Give me JG's team over Malpas' team any day of the week.
  4. Or maybe he genuinely thought that the youngsters weren't good enough to play in the first team. Remember, Gannon has a system that is based around the abilities of the players he has. McGhee had different options and a different system. If Clarkson, Porter, Quinn, McLean, McCormack, Klimpl etc. were available to Gannon, there might be one or two youngsters not getting their chance yet either.
  5. McGhee will put in a bid for O'Brien during the January window.
  6. Aye Lambert won the Champions League and Gary Mac won an EPL league title and a European trophy (to name a few). Not too shabby.
  7. Aye, but Bolton will get a wee bit more money from the EPL telly deal than we get from the SPL deal. The money has to come from somewhere.
  8. The teams in Germany, France etc. have a much larger source of income outside of gate money. A quick google showed that in 2007/08, for example, Olympique Lyonnais (who won the league that season) had a turnover of more than 117 million. We can only dream of those revenues.

O'Brien's effort would have been a hell of away to win the game too, but I suppose a draw was fair after Deuchar's miss before that (although Ruddy was a wee bit unlucky with the bounce).

Unfortunately, UEFA and FIFA directives mean refs have very little discretion left these days.
  11. Aye, replacing him with Bob Malcolm was a masterstroke. How did that work out?
  12. All this mythology about shirt numbers is just that - mythology. With all due respect to Uncle Phil, there have been players as good (and, dare I say, better) in my time that have worn number 10. The man will not be forgotten, and it's nothing to do with his jersey,
  13. I don't remember anybody saying that. The Hughes discussion was about whether we could could find ourselves a midfield playmaker.
  14. If Johnny G could shoot, he would have been sold on to a big club for a lot of dosh
  15. Maybe some nerves. Also, despite the pre-season, this was the team's first outing against an SPL team - so a different challenge again for management and players. Good to hear the boss got the tactics and subs right for the second half, though.
  16. Yes. Because that extra pressure affects your confidence. It's no coincidence that any keeper we ever play behind our cross-shy defence has had problems.
  17. He's discovering what Buzz had to endure i.e. when you don't have a defence that can handle a cross you end up having to go for balls that aren't rightfully yours.
  18. I said this was going to be a tough one. It's never easy against the newly promoted's first game.
  19. I heard Fat Bob had to ask one of his mates how to spell "FTP".
  20. Classic stuff - I remember that game well. Back in the days when we were the featured game on Scotsport despite being the First Division. When I was at the match I said that Wullie P took it easy on us with his hat trick chance; and it still looks like he did I always liked Irvine as a player too, but he didn't quite have Wullie P's pace there! Not the best 'Well team ever, but gave me some of my favourite times as a fan. As I recall, Wullie Irvine and Brian McLaughlin battled it out until the last game of the season for top scorer. They went to Tyncastle equal and Irvine's goal let him finish ahead, and stop the Jambos from being promoted. Good times.
  21. It was nothing to do with being illegal. It was just that some sensitive wee souls are not prepared to believe that, regardless of what you thought of McGhee as a person, taking us to 3rd in the league and playing some entertaining football was actually quite an achievement; especially after the Malpas debacle. Too many people are wanting the world to be back and white, when there are plenty of shades of grey to discuss. Then there are the people who just like to take the contrary position to almost everything, often for no other reason than they enjoy a moan.
  22. So you hate when someone like Big Tel applauds the 'Well fans? I wasn't a fan of him as a manager, but I hardly think a 60 year old dying from Parkinson's Disease is a cause for celebration.
