  1. Some people are calling him a legend before the season has kicked off. That sounds over the top to me.
  2. I don't think it was imaginary - I think it was visa problems. In fact, he ended up as a significant investor in the Tampa team and ended up working there before he joined Gorman at Swindon in the EPL.
  3. RIP if it's true. He was one of my favourite players. Came back from a broken leg, as I recall, and was a terrific footballer. Remember one goal against Accies where ran the length of the pitch and beat about 7 players before scoring. Took cracking penalties too. Had a bit of a temper on him as well
  4. Can we ban the "punching above our weight" phrase Seriously, a while back I read one of Bob Rotella's books. Rotella is a sports psychologist who happens to specialise in golf. He talks about how players often get worried when they are playing well, because they expect it to all fall apart at any second. His argument is that you when you are playing exceptionally well, you shouldn't view that as abnormal (or punching above your weight) - it's because you have the talent to play at that level. You shouldn't wait for it to go pear-shaped but rather work on areas to help ensure you play at that high level as often as possible. Punching above your weight doesn't factor in the equation. Okay - rant over. It will be a tough game against the Saints as games against the newly promoted always are. Will be delighted with a one goal victory; not too disappointed with a draw.
  5. From what I have read, it sounds like Gannon is still in the market for a striker and a right back. I guess he has no control over the order in which players sign. Still a couple of weeks before the window closes, so hopefully he will have secured all his targets by then.
  6. I doubt anything we say on here is worse than the insults players take from their team mates.
  7. I'm sure they pick up the general vibe listening to the Fir Park crowd on a Saturday without needing to read it on here too.
  8. You claimed 'many' of you had said Fitzpatrick was crap. I was pointing out that many Motherwell supporters also hated Clarky and many Motherwell supporters also loved Bob Malcolm i.e. just because a lot of people think it, doesn't necessarily make it right. I haven't offered an opinion on Fitzpatrick; only on the irrationality of 'many' fans.
  9. McGhee didn't have to build a team - he had to coach them, but that's a different problem. Big Eck was a good coach too, but useless at rebuilding.
  10. It's not negative, it's experience. It's a well established fact that it takes a new manager about 3 full seasons to build the team he wants. It's also a well established fact that youngsters are inconsistent - Gannon has said that himself. It's nothing to do with being fearless - it's to do with consistency. And when they are 2-0 down at St. Mirren on a wet Wednesday night, getting booed by half the 'Well support, it's not fearlessness that will dig them out. It's the experience of being there before (which they don't have yet). To think that you can build a team in 3 months that is going to finish 3rd in the league is fantasty-land. Of course, it might happen, but it's much more likely to be a progression over a season or two. We need to get the foundation in place first. Nothing wrong with a midtable finish in year one.
  11. Could we not just open them in HOTD? They are the most pointless threads on the site.
  12. That about sums it up for me. With so many enforced changes, 7th or 8th will do me fine in JG's first season. Anything more will be a fine bonus. Let's not forget our record so far is Played 6, Won 2, Lost 4. Of course we can improve on that, but youngsters tend to be inconsistent. I just hope the people predicting 3rd or 4th don't see 7th or 8th as failure.
  13. Is this the same 'many' that knew Clarky wasn't good enough for some time? Or that Bob Malcom was good enough?
  14. Playing a newly promoted team on their own patch, first game of the season is always tough. I wouldn't be too disappointed with a score draw.
  15. Not until I've finished my coffee. But thanks for the offer.
  16. The guy is quoted as saying " I got on in a game against CFR Cluj and almost scored after beating a few men. Because I missed the gaffer made me do some press-ups. But it was a good start and I don't know why I didn't get another chance in the first team last season." So if it's wrong, it's because Slane said it. I doubt they made up the quote.
  17. Is this the least coherent thread ever? Maybe I just need more coffee.

    Paul Mcgrillen

The fact that they "would look sympathetically on it" suggests that they do have a rule that prohibits this. In that case, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody at UEFA quoted the rule to Motherwell and we didn't bother pursuing it. UEFA are pretty poor at communications and very good at taking two opposing positions at once, As others have said, I think the first game it Fir Park is a more appropriate place for this to happen anyway.
  19. When the guy is the club captain, what he does off the park is also important.

    European Referees

Aye, but it will just be another ref that's doing the review.
  21. We (and I include myself in that) need to stop worrying about comparing ourselves to the OF. We have a great travelling support who obviously make a fine impression with opposition fans. We shouldn't be defined by how we stack up against the OF - hardly the standard bearers of excellence, anyway. Our identity as a club doesn't rely on the OF. Let the media carry on with their Rangers/Celtic obsession, and let the 'Well (and other non-OF) fans take care of our own clubs' reputations. The people of Nancy, Llanelli, Vlorë and Bucharest were smart enough to make up their own minds. We don't need spoon-fed by the Glasgow journos to tell us how good we are; we heard it first-hand
  22. That was a long way of saying I was right I thought I had read that JB had assumed the debt (and pursuance of it) from the club and any monies reclaimed would go to him. I guess that wasn't true.
  23. The allocation of costs is up to the judge, but it's often the case that even if you win you are liable for part (or even all) of the costs. I have read of a number of cases where the successful party ends up in debt because of the legal fees incurred in winning.
  24. When there is a stream, we will post it on this site. If you are a BitTorrent user, you may be able to access the highlights each week.
