"The other dick" could have offered him a 2 or 3 year contract if he wanted him to stay. However, he was too busy working on his own exit. McGhee never seemed to rate McLean (and neither did a lot of the fans on here) so I can see why he was keen to join a club where he was wanted.

When the guy that is offering you a contract walks out in the middle of his own contract, you're not going to generate much loyalty.

Does anybody even know if we definitely offered him a new deal? I remember reading that McGhee "was going to sit down with him at the end of the season" and also heard the one year contract thing. Didn't hear anything after the season finished though.

If it's true we only offered him a one year deal I'm not surprised he looked elsewhere.

I wouldn't be too worried. In fact, in one of his interviews yesterday, Gannon said he was surprised how good some of our youngsters were, and that they hadn't been more involved with the senior squad already. I can't imagine he would have taken this job if he didn't have confidence in our youth set-up as he knows this is where a lot of the work will need to be done. For now, though, we also need to bring in a number of players to bolster the squad.

I think the idea is we play at the opponents' home ground rather than Airdrie's.

'Assists' is a manufactured statistic that was stolen from the NHL and NBA. But even ignoring that fact, it's a team game, and if Hughes was responsible for setting up most of Hammell's runs for his 'assists' then who's to say his contribution was any less significant?

Foran suited the type of game that Butcher played. He wasn't fit enough to play in McGhee's teams and would have been keeping Fat Boab company on the bench.
