  1. Also, in this economic climate, I think there will be quite a few players surplus to other club's requirements this close season, so there may be some good deals to be done.
  2. This was touched on last season by people 'in the business' as it were, and apparently the amount of soil (and effort) required to make Fir Park level, makes it uneconomical. Personally, I have always liked the slope as just one more thing that gives the ground a wee bit of character.
  3. McGhee's actual quote after the game today.
  4. I'm saying two things. First of all, listen to what McGhee actually said rather than the fluff rags like the Rancid spun around it. Secondly, I would bet a large sum of money that the scenario you outlined with those players leaving and no new players being brought in does not happen. The transfer fee for Porter alone should cover the pitch repair and the fee for Clarkson, who has a full 12 months to run on his contract, would fund a replacement. So if you are laying odds on what you are predicting, let me know.
  5. We managed to get into the leading Fair Play position without worrying about every tackle etc. I'm happy to see us carry on in the same style as we played all season and if it gets us there, great; if not, no big deal. At least it kept the last few games interesting.
  6. Do you seriously think we will lose *all* six of those players and not bring in any new faces? No wonder you need new pills.
  7. If there are points awarded for 'style of play' or whatever they call it, then presumably we would have picked up more points than St. Midden for gubbing both them and Accies with our silky passing game.
  8. To be fair, having a nearly full squad available, and playing on a decent pitch has helped too.
  9. Fair play to the guys. That's two teams fighting for survival that we have beaten on their own patch.
  10. The teams at the bottom would have been in a relegation scrap regardless of the split, though. And they would still have had fixtures against each other.
  11. I'd prefer Accies to stay up. It's nice having a wee team to beat in a local derby every season.
  12. I think Haggis just cuts and pastes that comment on here every game
  13. Aye me too. Same thing happened at the midweek game. There's nothing saying it's UK only, so it's either a problem on their end, or they are banning the overseas listeners without telling us.
  14. I didn't see any mention of the word "relegation" from McGhee there. Of course we will be in a scrap next season, because there isn't much to choose between ourselves and 5 or 6 other teams. But it will be a scrap for the top 6, not a relegation scrap.
  15. He's only 25, but if he helps Sheffield Utd. win promotion to the Prem, they might want to hang on to him.
  16. It's difficult to tell in these situations exactly what has been offered or even what stage negotiations reached with each club. Agents have a habit of exaggerating interest. You would have to believe that we can match St. Johnstone for wages, especially when you factor in bonuses etc. but like you say, I'm sure we wouldn't guarantee anybody first team football, so something like that might sway their decision.

Aye, now I get ye - and that is reasonable. I don't buy shirts these days. If we get our hoop back, I could be tempted (but only when it's being flogged for half price after the next season's design teasers start appearing )

If you expect a design different from every other Canterbury shirt then, with the small number Motherwell will sell, you would probably have to pay about 4 or 5 times the price. Personally, I don't really care as long as the hoop makes a return

True, but there's no reason they couldn't schedule all the post-split games for a weekend (by playing another pre-split game midweek when they have more control over who plays each other). At the very least they could keep the rule that you don't show live SPL games on telly at the same time other SPL games are being played. It might not made that much if a difference in this case, but we need all the help we can get. Alternatively, get rid of the split and have more control over the schedule in the first place.
  20. This is UEFA we are dealing with. They have never managed to keep anything simple. Even the draws they make for cup competitions are overly complicated.

I hope Henry McLeish was taking notes - "ICT on a Wednesday night with other live games on telly = bad idea".
  22. Aye, the ESPN table is nothing to do with the Fair Play League. It's just a tally of reds and yellows like the old Sunday Post "Crime Count" tables.
  23. Reported in the Evening Times too. Not sure whether it's a realistic valuation or not as Cardiff obviously have a guy under contract that they don't want to let go. As for transfer fees - we got Porter for nowt and sold him on at a tidy profit. So you win some, you lose some. Nobody was ever going to pay 5 million for McCormack when he played for us, even if he was still under contract.
  24. Me either. The first Star Wars movie came out and Elvis died. So a good year all round.
