  1. Is Lesser Hampden still going to be plastic turf after its revamp? If so, then I hope Elgin is away so we can play on grass.
  2. I don't think he's made appearances very many places. One of those people that likes to keep himself to himself and stay out of the limelight. Not sure about his health these days either,
  3. GA manage to get KVV to extend his contract. That probably used up 80% of the summer window budget. It certainly only left Hammell enough to sign Aston Oxborough in August.
  4. Still don't get it. Since his first season with us, Mains' league goal tally is 5, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 7. Less in 7 seasons than KVV scored this past season.
  5. Unless someone can show me the stats, and how those stats stack up against other teams, I can and will deny it and put it down as another one of the tropes that football fans love to repeat but don't always stand up to scrutiny - (back to haunt us, anyone needing a win, never do well on televised games, never win crunch games etc.). This season we signed 11 players, none were ex. We brought in 7 loans, 2 were ex (one who left has a youngster before he played for us) I'm open to the argument it's easier to persuade ex-players to come back on loan, but I don't think we're unique in that regard.
  6. Considering the vast number of players we've signed in recent years - especially given the size of our club - the number of ex-players in that number must be a pretty minuscule percentage.
  7. Nah. He'll be off to Aberdeen once they crash and burn next season.
  8. My guess is that a kit you like and any Motherwell victory are 2 things that would surprise you.
  9. Not sure why you think American football fans are gullible. There are 5 or 6 live EPL games shown every weekend, plus all midweek games shown live, plus 5 or 6 Championship games, plus the League Cup, plus the FA Cup, plus a ton of Champions League etc. etc. Anyone with a passing interest in the game knows who Wrexham are and where they stack up in the English pyramid thanks to the blanket coverage of the English game over the past 10 years or so. That tourney is the US equivalent of the old "Soccer Sixes" except a bit more lucrative. As well as the domestic teams, Wolves, Hapoel Tel Aviv, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund are also competing. The main difference is that it's $1 million to the winner and $0 to everyone else.
  10. Although the Championship was close this year I'd still have been disappointed if the team in 4th had been promoted. If there has to be a play-off (and I don't think there is any need) then second top vs second bottom at least maintains some level of integrity for a league system.
  11. I guarantee that as a 28 year old player at Man City he'll be ripped and have the core strength of an MMA fighter. I'm never, however, going to google "Bernardo Silva shirtless".
  12. Not so sure about that these days. Sports science has moved on the past couple of decades to the point that most players are bulked up. I think it was Arsene Wenger that introduced the notion to British football that the only thing better than a talented footballer was an athletic, bulked up talented footballer. You don't need to be a Kipré or a Mandron, but you need a basic level of core strength to stand up to the rigours of weekly midfield battles.
  13. I don't if the season ended this way, but for a long time he had the most yellow cards and was also the most fouled player in the Premiership.
  14. Good players make players around them better. Poor players blame others for thier performance BTW, I'm not saying Blaney is a poor player (and he's not the one making excuses). It's just interesting how fans react to players they like vs players they don't. SOD is a classic example. He was better than Blaney at the weekend, but was on the receiving end of more criticism than Blaney.
  15. Charles Dunne, Richard Tait and Curtis Main all leaving St Mirren. Even as we speak, Robinson will be on the MFC website working through the list of our released players to replace them.
  16. Very true. Despite the media hype, it's easy to forget they finished 3rd in the Championship that season 22 points off the top.
  17. Also not a fan of the keeper being the captain, but it's probably not worth it to take it away from Kelly now. Ideally, I prefer the captain to be a boss in midfield so they can easily bark at strikers and defenders, but defenders are a close second for me - Joe Wark being a classic example of that.
  18. I give a lot of credit to Baraclough for getting the tone exactly right in those games. Another huge factor was having guys like Pearson, McManus and McDonald in the team. Winning at Ibrox was quite normal to them and that mindset was something we'd been lacking in many previous visits.
  19. I appreciate Curtis Main has other attributes over and above goal scoring, but as a striker that is a pretty important stat. So it made me laugh this week reading about St. Mirren's "star striker" leaving the club and how Robinson brings out the best of him. At Motherwell, he scored 8 league goals across 2 seasons and at St Mirren he scored 9 league goals across 2 seasons. Looking at his stats, the most league goals he has ever scored for any club in a season is 8, and in 15 of his league seasons he has scored less than 4 goals. He'd probably have done a job playing along side KVV, but if you need goals he is not your man.
  20. 31st May - end of contract day, start of moving day. On the "out of contract" list, Goss and Casey would be my priority. Johnston too, of course, but he's likely gone.
  21. I wasn't convinced either, but then I noticed this on his wiki page 444 goals in 15 games is a pretty decent return

    Alexander.

McGhee certainly hid his massive ego less than most, but it made his press conferences pretty entertaining if you just assumed nothing he was saying was true.
  23. I was a bit concerned with that interview. Not because it sounded like he wasn't convinced Danzaki had proved himself, but more with his comment that "we don't play a number 10" I'm hoping he meant that we don't play a number 10 within the structure he had to implement when he took over rather than he wouldn't have played a number 10 even when Turnbull was on the books.
  24. Can't say that Harkes has ever looked much more than ordinary when I've seen him in the Premiership. He performed better in the Championship, but there are many that fall into that category,
