If Ross Stewart wants to reunite with Kettlewell, I'm OK with that.

I was just about to post that. I didn't think it was possible to make that pitch have a more uneven and unpredictable bounce, but I think today is the worst I've seen it. No doubt that suits the home team more, as they are used to it, but it's beyond brutal as far as any kind of passing, or football, is concerned. I'm sure Killie are quite happy to have it set up this way - and no coincidence they are mince away from home.

If you're not astute enough to realise when a bit of help is required, then you are your own worst enemy. As I said in the other thread, the world's greatest players still need coaching and training every day, but for some reason most managers think never need guidance. No point worrying about it now though. I wonder if Hammell or Kerr would come back to work in the academy again or if that bridge has been burned.

I just like the fact that he has managerial experience he can look back on to compare and contrast with what he's facing now. It became more and more obvious in Hammell's later interviews that he had nowhere to go to find alternative approaches to try and dig us out the hole. It felt like his answer was to keep working on the same things, but a bit harder. It's a shame we didn't insist on someone a bit more experienced to assist him with the day-to-day as it might have been all we (and Hammell) needed to get us over the hump.

We can pick up decent compensation fees for players that move without every playing for us - the deals for guys like McKinstry and McAlear were beneficial and there is a chance we get even more income from add-ons if they move again. If we manage to keep them for a season or two then guys like Campbell and Turnbull add a level of quality we couldn't afford to buy.

Perhaps, but I suspect it's more about fans, players and managers (myself included) not understanding all the ins and out of the current rules. In particular the "excessive force", "out of control" and "handball" interpretations that crop up every week. EDIT: works better when I include the quote.

Last time I had an internal job change (in the same team) it took nearly 4 months for my employer to sort it out. If proper discussions didn't start until Monday (or even Sunday) a few days to negotiate and have lawyers draft and review contracts is nothing.

Which new manager do you think we could hire where we wouldn't have to "hope it works"? Negotiating a contract for any manager will involve them asking for things and the club deciding if they accept. It's hardly holding a gun to anyone's head when the club has other options and can easily say no.

If I had to choose between McGhee (first time) and McCall's style of play that led us to top 3 league finishes, or GA's long ball style in the 2nd half of last season, I'm in the McGhee/McCall camp. Likewise, if I had to choose between the first half of the season that Robinson was playing hoofball vs the 2nd half where he revamped our style with Hastie/Scott/Turnbull I'd choose the 2nd half of that season. Imagine if we tried to play the long ball game when we had Russell. Cooper and Coyne in the team? It's a strange phenomenon in Scottish football where people think your only options are to play a passing game and fail or play long balls and succeed. No wonder our game struggles to develop. Also, if you're expecting young talent to be developed by coaching them a long ball game, then there isn't much future for the academy. Kettlewell has stripped things down to basics due to circumstances and that is understandable. Even then he's talked about adding layers to it once the team has found a bit more confidence. Horses for courses and all that, but if any new manager wants to play Livi-style hoofball permanently, they wont have me watching.

Certainly something other managers have remarked on in the past. The sooner we mathematically rule out relegation, the sooner we can start contract negotiations.

If you're talking about Declan Gallagher, I'd say it did because he often talked about how wrong it was, how it changed him, and showed some genuine remorse. I have the same thoughts about Martindale at Livi. On the other hand, if we're talking about Paul Quinn's conviction for assault and subsequent behaviour, but still making him captain, I'd say that was a terrible decision and - if you can be bothered to search my posts - one I complained about on multiple occasions. As I said earlier in the thread, there's politics and there's politics. I have good friends whose politics are very different from mine, but I have no good friends who are racist.

Would you be OK with someone who said they hate black people, would never have a Jew in the team and gays should be euthanised? If not, then you also have a line you think that shouldn't be crossed. The challenge for anyone is where to draw that line. We've set ourselves up as a club who serves the local community so it would be a bit incongruous if we hired a manager who was opposed to the causes and people we support.
