  1. If Watt's new club make his signing-on bonus contingent on scoring 10 or more league goals in a season they won't owe him a penny. He has a career 0% on that.

  3. So that's the weekly "give away soft goal" checked off the list. Now all we need is the "miss 2 easy chances" and we'll up and running.
  4. It's not just this season. I might just not notice it as much with other clubs, but it feels like we injure more players in training than most, and gets even worse during international breaks.
  5. My overriding memory of St Mirren is being at the game where Billy Abercrombie was sent off 3 times. Was a pretty uneventful night otherwise and we didn't know about the 2 additional red cards until the next morning. Anyway. Another Mandron double for a 2 -1 win.

  9. Unless they are about to make a step-up, I'm not sure public report cards on the youngsters are necessarily a healthy thing. It's fine if we are talking them up, but I can't imagine "Bob isn't doing enough this month to earn a first team start" is very useful. The main problem, I suppose, has been the scrapping of the U20s and being left with a Reserve League that is a bit of a mix of senior and youth players, and only when the shambles of a fixture list is operating. When we had regular U20s matches we were able to see players in action and the coaches could give constructive feedback on specific games. Of course Max Johnston has started recently and Stuart McKinstry is an academy product, albeit a loaner.

  11. To be fair, in the EFL Cup, Mandron scored an equaliser against Brentford (at Brentford) after an early Ivan Toney goal, and Gillingham went on to beat them on penalties. And I've watched a few lower tier teams in the this season's FA cup beat teams 4 or 5 tiers above them. It was still entertaining though to watch Goodwin go down in flames. Even if we can only be smug until the next round.
  12. I know the league is pretty tight, but any time I've seen Aberdeen this season they have been pure mince - yet they are still in 5th place.

  17. Counterpoint. The charity strip is horrendous. Fantastic cause, and delighted it has sold well, but 1980s retro fluoresence at it's worst.

  19. I suspect there are many, like me, who tend to avoid this place when we have a dip in form as there are only so many "man for the job", "must go", "punt him", "need defender/striker/midfielder/" posts you can take.

  21. When we've signed players on 1yr deals the complaint is that's not long enough. It's always a gamble either way. I'm not sure we're exactly financially crippled though based on the last set of accounts. We do work to a budget though to ensure we don't do a John Spencer type deal. Also, don't we have insurance that pays (or assists) with salaries for players with long-term injuries? I'm sure that used to be how it worked, but don't know if it applies these days.

  23. It's rare that we bring in any player that the media has us linked to. I'm pretty sure our managers and coaches know what we need, but as always, that's the easy part of the job. The tough part is finding someone in January who is better than what we have, that we can afford, that their club will release and that wants to come and play for us.
