  1. These days I'm not putting my soup thermos down and taking the rug off my knees to stand up for anybody.
  2. I might be easily amused, but I always find it funny that the anti-science crew are quite happy to use the science that gave us global instantaneous communication to share their insights.
  3. The way reporting works these days, a journo reads a forum like this and writes a story (with no quotes or attributions) and then other outlets report on that story.
  4. When I log in I see it listed in Events after the Motherwell v Sligo Full Match Replay link.
  5. To quote "Mr Wonderful" on Shark Tank (the US version of Dragon's Den), the notion of rehiring Robinson as manager needs to be taken behind the barn and put out of its misery.
  6. I think O'Donnell might start with the expectation he'll do the captain thing and provide some leadership on the park. Then it will be time to look for the sacked manager bounce.
  7. Guys like Simo have shown interest before - and then they get told what the budget is and suddenly they aren't so interested. We need stability on one hand, but progression on the other. Not an easy combination to find for any club. Basically, a young old hand with solid fundamental expansive conservative ideas.
  8. He won a cup with ICT and led Hibs to the Europa Cup group stage. Only Wee Tommy has managed one of those in my lifetime.
  9. John Hughes always gets mentioned in these threads. John Hughes.
  10. Given that Faddy's getting his UEFA badges (and his stated interest in coaching/management), I wouldn't be against having him in one of our coaching roles - but I wouldn't have him anywhere near a manager's job at this point. Right now I'm more curious about which role GA fills at St Mirren.
  11. We could do worse that start both of them.
  12. I'm just waiting for the first "Tommy Wright" shout. In different circumstances I'd have been happy to take a punt on somebody like Shaun Maloney, but the timing is wrong on that one.
  13. GA "steadied the ship" in his first 6 months too. We need to pick up the anchor now and start sailing somewhere. And I'm pretty sure "pick up the anchor" isn't the technical term.
  14. I hear Robinson will be available on Monday morning.
  15. I pay my subs to support the club financially. Given the list of candidates that were suggested on here after Robinson left, I certainly wouldn't trust the "owners" to select another option.
  16. Still better than losing to Airdrie. Discuss...
  17. The only teams that won more games than us last season were Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Livi. My prediction is that we aren't as bad as some fans think we are and we won't be in a relegation battle. We are crying out for another pure Number 9 to back-up KVV, but if we do manage that I think we'll be 8th or better and pushing for top 6 again.
  18. Tony Watt scored 3 league goals in his first full season with us. Glad we didn't punt him that summer.
  19. Not so much - at least in earlier years. Partly because they started pre-season earlier because their league kicked off earlier - so they were ahead in prep. And partly because they often didn't have a squad of 22 or 24 first team players that all needed game time. I'm not saying it's unfair on Premiership teams. I am saying that anyone who has watched the group games in the past few years hasn't exactly been exposed to fast-flowing, high tempo football from match sharp players. That is largely down to the timing of the games while teams are still half-way through preparing for the league. That doesn't excuse Premiership teams not qualifying from their group. As a paying punter, though, I don't think the league group games deliver as much value for money as the prior formats did where we had one-leg, straight knock-out rounds every round.
  20. Should get a few games out of him then after he sits out his suspensions for all of 2023. (Just joking - would be delighted if we can tie him down for a new contract).
  21. He has a point about the difficulty of trying to get full squad of players some quality pre-season minutes. The pressure is on to win the group, so managers have to stick with their fittest 11 every game and need to cut into pre-season training hours to prep for matches. It's also true, however, that his team were rank after he took control last season and have continued to be rank.
  22. I can't see Griffiths doing a job for anyone until he sorts out his head out - and unfortunately his track record suggests that isn't going to happen any time soon.
  23. There aren't many "easy" ties in the last 16 of the League Cup. Best you can hope for is a home tie against lower league (but always decent by this stage) teams.
  24. That's the strategy that worked so well for Aberdeen, Dundee and Hibs last season.
  25. Excellent work - brings back some good (and bad) memories. Seeing Raith Rovers on there is also a stark (no pun intended) reminder of how things can change when you drop out of the top league and never make it back. A long list of casualties from Clydebank to Dumbarton.
