  1. We can only dream. These are the players we should be building our team around. Him, Steve McDonald and Jan Michels. With Holm Kraska as an impact sub.
  2. At last, someone talking sense. And while we're at it, I never want to see Herve Bacque in a Motherwell shirt again.
  3. Agreed. It was refreshing to read JG's comments after the game, and while we all know the state Scottish football is in compared to the continent, it's in a way reassuring that we've got a manager who is willing to at least try to drag us kicking and screaming out of the 'Route 1' pish. I think the real test will be when we hit October/November time - hopefully the momentum we've built up pre-season can be sustained.
  4. Not sure if anyone else saw this, but I recall he was talked about before: Celtic hope to conclude the £500,000 capture of Stockport County's 18-year-old defender Josh Thompson within 48 hours. (Daily Mail) Never mind eh? Hope we can get de Laet tied up, but we need a striker! What happened to Tehoue, is he still around?
  5. Was that not Eckersley or whatever? I think de Laet is still available...
  6. We've not signed a player in about ten minutes. Disgraceful!
  7. There's no doubt that this season will be something of a transition for us, but I fancy us to cause a few upsets along the way. When Malpas left, McGhee managed to transform what was a woefully underperforming shambles into something exciting - who's to say that Gannon won't do the same? I know it's perhaps wishful thinking, but I think the 'transition' tag might work to our advantage this year. Low-top six, I'd say.
  8. I'd love it if we could get someone in the Rosco style, it might be a bit of a long shot but I think a more creative midfielder is definitely needed. I think Humphrey and Jennings suit the out-and-out winger/midfield hard bastard roles well, but we still don't have a replacement for Hughes (and that's first season Hughes, not second...)
  9. Part of the Motherwell rollercoaster has always been picking up the odd undiscovered gem from somewhere apparently random - how many of us had heard of Porter, Simo Valakari or even big Sieb before they joined us? As someone else mentioned before, I'd much rather Gannon looks that bit further afield than the SPL so that we don't end up with the same journeymen getting hoored about. He's got a good knowledge of the lower leagues down there - Humphrey and Jennings won't be the last unknown we'll have gracing the new turf, I'm sure. Exciting times...
  10. Exactly. Even if he had given them a bollocking at half time, I wouldn't have expected us to somehow spring out and put three or four goals past them. As I said on another thread, at this stage of (pre) season, we're far from a team, especially considering the players we've lost. That said, I'm confident that given a few weeks, and a few replacements, we'll be in a far better position. After all, we only have to look at how much work McGhee had to put in during his first pre-season, and the result....and who would have thought that given the hell of Malpas? It'll come, but this isn't a progression, it's a new manager, with new ways of doing things, and he's going to have to find new players to do it with.
  11. Yup, it's as much hoorish timing as anything else - after more than a couple of days training I'd like to think we could turn them over down there - even more so after tonight.
  12. To be honest, I expected this. Like last season, the uncertainty regarding managers etc, and with so many players leaving, isn't exactly ideal preparation for a European tie, no matter the opposition. I just wish we could have had a little more time with Big Jim, perhaps with 1 or 2 new signings, so that we could actually get a team together to play football and not just turn up to what sounds like little more than a bounce game (judging by our performance). Anyway, it's only July....
  13. The cover of the box had a dead creepy guy on it. Looked like Ming from the Flash Gordon film.
  14. McAllister? By all accounts he's no bad. But this Boyle guy we've supposedly got, is he not a similar type of player? Be surprised if we had £30k to spend to be honest!
  15. Interesting, the Beeb article mentions Mio too - Luc and Mio wouldn't be too bad. That said, something worrying tells me it will be Sanchez. It's odd, I'm not going to jump on him before he's even got the gig, but it's not exactly too inspiring...whatever happened to close seasons where we got genuinely excited about things? Ach, forget it, just give it to Dindeleux.
