To give you some idea of the quality in Icelandic football you can follow the score between BATE Borisov who competed in the Champions League 2 seasons ago, play against FH who are 4th in the Icelandic Premier League. By all accounts this should be a walkover for BATE like for you tomorrow. This is in the Champions League Preliminary round. http://mbl.is/mm/sport/fotbolti/2010/07/14..._stadan_er_0_0/

Nope it will be live text on the net. Only way for me to follow the game.

Sadly I will not be able to go to the game on Thursday. I am not sure I will be able to watch the match, too nervous. Here you can see the Breiðablik team taking on the crossbar challenge before departing to Scotland. As you can see from the clip, nothing to fear there http://www.fotbolti.net/fullStory.php?acti...ry&id=94227

He has 1 1/2 year left of his contract.

Our star player Alfred Finnbogason has been chosen the best player of the first half of the season here in Iceland: http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y...sl=is&tl=en Rumours are that scouts from german sides Hamburg and Werder Bremen along with Anderlecht and PSV scouts will be watching him on Thursday. Hopefully that will not make him more nervous and play badly. He is a real gem, he scores goals and sets them up. I all depends on our defence on Thursday and the defence is our weakness. We will need to score at leas 2 goals to stay in the tie as I vision us to concede at least 3. I predict the Motherwell manager will take Finnbogason aside after the game and offer him a contract.

I am getting seriously worried (Im a Breiðablik fan). Now the reality is setting in, the fact that we are playing one of the best teams in Scotland is something that Icelandic teams should fear. I know I have made alot of statements regarding my team but I honestly think we will get beat by at least 3 goals on Thursday. I am not playing mindgames, just have a feeling that the the supperior skill, passing ablities and football ability will prove too much for us.
-
I accept this opinion. Of course the standard in Iceland is not very good. We are only about 320.000. and the fact that all the best young players are plucked from our academy at a young age is damaging. I think new rules are coming into the game to guard against that. I expect you to beat us over the tie, maybe not by a very large margin though.

I like it :-)!!

Alfreð Finnbogason, Icelandic U-21 international (3 goals in 6 games). Scored 13 league goals in 18 games last season. Is now the leagues topscorer with 8 goals in 11 games. Is also outstanding in find the right passes and has there fore been deployed as the playemaker. Is also the top assisster. I fear we will lose him soon
-
Yes our game is based on attack. We have scored 26 goals in 11 games but conceded 13 so that is a worry. The clean sheet yesterday was a rare occurence. Your´re right about the goalie.
-
Yes they do and they are not the poorest team in the league by any means. So its pretty difficult to judge how strong we are because many teams here are not up to scratch.
-
Goals from our game last night. Man of the match, Alfred Finnbogason, is not going to stay with us much longer, scored 3 goals (should have had 4 as a long shot of his which hit underside of the bar was clearly over the line). He also had the assist for our 4th. Hopefully we will give you a game but I am fearing the worst. Breiðablik 4 Stjarnan 0 http://www.visir.is/section/IDROTTIR0101&a...&clipid=100

Yes, but I am not stating this, the number could be significally lower because of the abandoned charter flight. Hopefully not.
-
Well we have just received the bad news from our supporters club that a charter flight that had been arranged to land in Glasgow after midnight on the 15th of july will never take off because we were unable to fill the 150 seats. For us that is a huge numer and many people are now arranging the trip on their own. Hopefully many ,,Blikar" will come to Scotland and enjoy the game with the best supporters in the world which I think the Scottish are having seen the Tartan Army set Reykjavik alight couple of times. I believe we'll have about 100 people over. The financial crisis has hit us hard. We will be repaying IceSave for god knows how long (I never knew what IceSave was until I realised had to pay the bill for people who got tricked by criminal Icelandic bankers), the Krona is dead, the unemployment has never been this high, people loans on houses and cars have in many cases gone up 300-400%. Just last week my brother lost his house. So it will be tough for us to make it to Scotland in great numbers
-
No not at all. Just dont want to be ridiculed on here if you beat us 6-0 next week after I have been describing my team as good as Spain and our players, Zidane and co :-). The standard I am gloryfing might be piss poor :-) Even though I'll be proud of my team in its first ever European match. In all honesty, on a bad day you should even go through.
-
Well Breiðablik won 4-0 tonight and we are still top of the league. I have dampened my hopes abit when realising that Motherwell seems a good team. I think you managed a draw against Celtic and Rangers 3 times last season. The fact is that Scottish football is 100 times better than Icelandic football and even though I might think my team is playing wonderfull football that standard might not be up to scratch in the Scottish reserve league. Hopefully we wont get trashed.
-
Lol, I know, I was just having a laugh. I know the odds are 80-20 in your favour but Sigurdsson and Gudjohnsen would certainly help our cause. If football only was this simple.
-
Of course and yes the Icelandic league isnt very good. Its pretty low standard to be honest. But I will run naked across the pitch during the 2nd leg in Kópgavogur if we lose 9-1 in Scotland!! Thats not going to happen. Motherwell might be a good team but not 8 goals better than Breiðablik. Apperantly Breiðablik and Reading in England are in discussions about one of our former player, 20 yr old midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson joining us on loan for a short period to play in the Europa League this month. He scored 20 goals from midfield for Reading last season. Hopefully that will happen. There are also rumours about Eidur Gudjohnsen playing for us this month (only in Europe) before he moves from Monaco to Tottenham. He trained with us this summer to keep himself fit and is here in Iceland, not taking part in the pre-season at Monaco which has starterd. Our manager and Eidurs father and agent are best friends.
-
Of course I know Motherwell are the better team. Probably have better players in all positions and I am hoping the you will underestimate us as I have seen my team play some very good football of late and hopefully it will be the same against Motherwell. I am hoping for a miracle like what happened for KR Reykjavik last season when they beat greek club Larissa 3-1 over 2 legs in the 3rd round of the Europa League last season. I remember their fans being very arrogant before the tie. Former Newcastle defender Nikos Dabizas was a very bad loser I remember. In the next round when KR drew 2-2 against Swiss side Basel at home their striker Alexander Frei was a disgrace. After the game he went over to one of the KR Reykjavik defender and said: " I make more money than you in a week than you do in a year you amateur."
-
I guess thats what supporters from a better team will be saying if they come up against you. However I dont think any team which is taking part so early in the competition has a right to be this arrogant. Im sorry but thats how it is. The reality is that both of us teams probably wont be in the competition after the next round. I guess Villarreal had the right to be this arrogant in 2002 when they came up against FH Hafnarfjördur in Iceland with the likes of Pepe Reina, Juliano Belletti and Martin Palermo. Didnt do them much favour though as the game ended 2-2. And I guess Aston Villa had the right to be this arrogant when they came up against FH Hafnarfjördur with all their stars in 2008 and won comprehnsively 4-1 in Reykjavik, but the 2nd game ended in a 1-1 draw. Dont think you have the right to be this arrogant.
-
Well yes we are now top of the league and we are in with a great chance to win our first ever premier league title. However there are fears that could be ruined come August as our top players are being linked with a move. Tonight scouts from teams in Germany, England, Holland and Italy were at the game watching the likes of Kristinn Steindorsson (who scored 2 goals), Alfreð Finnbogason and Arnór Aðalsteinsson. To give you some glimpse of how the Icelandic teams are fairing at the moment. Well last week 2 Icelandic clubs participated in Europe. Fylkir currently in 9th place in the league lost 3-0 away to Torpedo Zhodino in Belarussia. Torpedo are last in the Belarussian league. KR Reykjavik (currently in the 8th place in the Icelandic league) hosted N-Irish club Glentoran and won 3-0 at home. The score should have been much higher with KR being the much better side, hitting the post 2 times and the Glentoran goalie making great saves.

The stadium is almost never sold out unless its against our local rivals in HK and against the big teams. However this is our FIRST ever european game and the tickets will almost certainly be sold out fast. However maybe some additional seats will be planted at the stadium.
