All the talk about that 1976 semi prompted me to do some internet searching to see what was out there in the public domain, came across a 10 year old thread on Pie and Bovril started by a workmate of Stuart Rennie who quoted Stuart as saying it WAS in the box but there was absolutely NO CONTACT, and the ref was on halfway line, also that Johnstone did admit as such many years later. Been trying to find an archive copy of Jim Reynold's match report without success but it appears he was an Albion Rovers diehard who 'leaned' towards Parkhead, but was also a great mate of Jim Watt and Jock Wallace. JPR Gordon and his colleagues were caught accepting gifts from AC Milan who paid for a 'shopping spree'. Doesn't appear to be a lot of love out there for JPRG from the fans of any team especially Celtic (funnily enough). Younger forum members out there are probably fed up with us old codgers going on about this but it is deeply rooted in the psyche of any Well fan of that vintage. The other thing about that night was standing in the open 'celtic' end on a wet cold night with groups of Rangers f****wits marauding around with impunity. My absolute loathing of that club and its knuckle dragging followers was cemented that night and has never left me. Anyway on to the present day and Sunday, so looking forward to the game. Pre match lunch booked for a group of us. All I am looking for is to see a Motherwell side showing no fear and leaving nothing behind at the end, and a fair crack of the whip from the officials. I can accept a defeat as long as all 3 happen. I think we have a great chance and the prospect of an end of match rendition of 'twist and shout' by 7000 Well fans has me smiling as I type this. Here's hoping. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

There were other factors and you could never say 100% but there is no doubt we then went into decline and it had a profound effect on the psyche around the club, not so much losing a semi final, but the way it happened. Anyway whatever the case revenge would be so sweet for us auld yins Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Never forget that night...Greig clattered Pettigrew when we were 2-0 up, no penalty from that weasal and we all know the rest. Ian Archer did a very sympathetic piece in the Herald if I remember unlike the Rancid which was all about the great Rangers comeback. We never recovered from that night, and a decline to relegation followed, so to me it became more than just being ROBBED of a final place A victory on Sunday would be so sweet for everybody but particularily those there in 1976. Reading all this narkieness etc(and I include my own) just goes to show what an erse Accies did make of it. Hopefully we can have a crystal clear policy for the next (and hopefully last time for a while) we visit that dump. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

I asked because previously I have had issues with someone sitting in the seat I had a ticket for and been told we can sit anywhere so I don't need to be told what question to 'reasonably ask'. It is entirely reasonable to ask and get clarification on what the policy is before going to take a seat. OK? Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Basically yet again Accies made an erse of this. First steward we asked said sit in your ticketed seat, steward next to him said he had just heard through his ear piece we could sit anywhere....this is at 2.40!. Fortunately most of our support is reasonable and situations around us anyway were resolved amicably but there is always one eejit determined to make a point and 'front row man' was a case in point. So its not a case of wanting escorted to seats its just clarity and when a senior steward tells you to sit anywhere thats just what we did. I certainly wasnt going to go to L44 or whatever my ticket was and have an argument with who was sitting there. My preference would be sit in your allocated seat but that needs to be clear when purchasing tickets and not changed 20 mins before kick off Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Hartley for me, excellent in defence and just watched his goal again, superb movement and quick feet. Terrific Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

You cannot play the ball on the ground on that apology for a pitch so it was horses for courses and glad to see we can adjust to different curcumstances but jeeez it wasn't pretty Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

I noticed after the game Robbo walking with him as if trying to gee him up, think the big fella is lacking confidence. Noticed also that immediately after another first half mistake Hammy was sent for a warm up plus also got a more intensive 1 to 1 warm up at ht, we were convinced he was coming on. This is my only worry at moment, not sure if Hammy has the legs for Hampden but thought he was terrific v Adeen and as a second half sub v Hearts?. He has played in a 3 at back before. Tough call Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Would agree with most of that although didn't think young Campbell had a particularily good game by his high standards. Was my first look at Carson close quarters and imo he is the real deal, just exudes confidence and decisiveness. No doubt in my mind last years team would have lost that game. On another point the sooner that horrible mob and their horrible pitch and their awful style of football are out the SPL the better Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Was thinking exactly the same thing...Saints were really poor (they will not have a good season)and Rangers nothing special. Left back John good going forward but poor defensively. Nothing to fear if we impose ourselves Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Agree with all of that, what a thick skin he has needed and I am so pleased for him more than anyone for the turnaround in our fortunes. It would be nice if some of those so quick to criticise and demean him would be as quick to acknowledge they were wrong but I'll no hold my breath. Yes mistakes have been made but for me he showed he was the real deal by standing up to Rangers over play off tickets. He showed a bit of balls in our dealings with the old firm/establishment and I have no doubt that inspired OUR fans on the day. There will be bumps in the road ahead but I am glad we have someone like Flow at the helm, and I suppose I should sign off by saying a) I am not Flow and b) I do not know him well [emoji4][emoji4][emoji4] Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Tend to agree, just feeding off the usual lazy journalism by 'pundits' and the like who have no in depth knowledge of teams outside the old firm and Adeen. Still at least good to see our club 'recognised' Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Jelavic turned Hutchy for equaliser. If I remember correctly we went into that on a poor run of form with little expectation but actually played well on the day and yes Lasley goal was a cracker....think it might have been January 2009? or therabouts Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk Edit what a load of bolloks....it was January 2011, Naismith did indeed score the winner (in 83 mins) after Las equalised in 66 mins, edu had opened scoring in 20 mins. We beat Dun Utd 1-0 with a Gow goal in 86 mins in the quarter final. Think Broon was mumpin his gums about getting a bonus for us reaching the semi final even though he no longer our manager but AS EVER might be wrong!

Reasonable assessment, more I think about it St Johnstone should be in our sights and as for cup runs lets have 2!. Anyways nice to have a debate about how high up the table we will finish, not how lowly we will be Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk -

Who do you think will beat us to a top 6 place? If we assume Celtic Aberdeen and Rangers are the top 3 (and in the case of Rangers thats a big if), then I believe we will fight it out with Hibs StJohnstone and Hearts for the other 3 places. We are currently 1 point behind, level, and 4pts ahead of these 3 teams. I dont think anyone else will contend and I believe it will be tough but that if we can maintain our current performance level we can do it. I predict Hibs 4th us 5th and StJ/Hearts for 6/7th. Whether we do or not we have more than enough to stay clear of trouble and have another cup run. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk -
I do indeed and was mildly amused at it all. Pre season is when you find out what works and what doesn't, who can do what and who can't, etc etc. Lessons learned against Gateshead and Barrow have contributed to our great start. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Nor did the performance....bloody awful, I am sure if the team had 'had a go' the volume would have been higher Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Agreed but don't forget Newell as well, I think both have been brought in as medium/long term possible replacements Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

Scottish Premiership Game 7: Aberdeen (H) Sunday 24/09/17 (12.15)
Clackscat replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
Bit of perspective needed...yes flat all round and anyone who has played sport will tell you how difficult it is to replicate a peak like Thursday. Disappointed but not too down. Adeen were bound to be up for it and they are second best team in Scotland. We will need to learn and will. We played too many long balls and our best moments were the odd occasion we did get it down. Hartley outstanding, but Kipre showed his inexperience and McHugh was poor in possession yet again. The fact Adeen were so pleased to win shows how far we have come. Onwards and upwards Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
