I’m just hoping his agent doesn’t talk him into submitting a transfer request so he can go to one of the uglies. If his agent has half A brain and a wee bit of patience, he’ll get a better club and better financial deal down south.
He should know better than to say things like that in public or even in private. He should be telling possible suitors to fek off, we need him at Motherwell to finish our season. He’s not for sale.
We’ve played 2 rounds of fixtures and the manner of our performance in games is a whole new level for us but after 22 games+ it doesn’t look like a flash in the pan so in this instance I’d go with option 2
thinking back to Jake Hastie, I think he performed over a handful of games and was a good move for him going to rangers.
We should definitely not be selling any of our good players in this window, or in the summer if we can help it.
I’ve not given up on a top 3 spot yet.
Shankland out for a bit so maybe Hearts will struggle. We still have to play rangers and Celtic twice. Both uglies are capable of dropping points against any team in the league, as well as against each other. Of course, we are also capable of dropping points but there is still 16 games to go amd a lot can happen. At full strength and playing well, we are more than capable of beating either of the uglies.
Your last paragraph is exactly my point. I see it as an opportunity for MFC to make some money and have a quality player in the squad till we sell him.
I think that would come down to Welsh willing to take a drop in wages for short time.
of Course, remains to be seen if a suitable loan deal will be offered which is probably a more likely outcome if we want to see him play for us the rest of this season.
And wouldn’t it be good if we were the ones selling him. Seems like a good deal to me. We either have a quality player on the books or we make a few quid selling him on after getting the benefit of his services for the rest of this season.
I’m thinking it would be making a few quid
I’m reading that Celtic looking for $400k for Welsh. If he can accept lower wage at Motherwell, short term, We could get him and sell him on for more than that.
Indeed! 11 games (1 round of fixtures) to the split and we are 12 points (+bunch of goals) ahead of 7th spot. If we have a good start to this round of fixtures it will be hard to knock us out of the top six.
Our main area to strengthen is striker.
We can makeshift cover at CB, to a lesser extent at left back but it would be good to have player whose first positions is CB and player whose first position is LB.
Striker, left back, centre back, and if we can afford it, a good quality midfielder who would be in contention for a starting slot and not just one to make up numbers.
Keep Looking for confirmation on the striker but not yet.
all very quiet but that’s ok. I think JBA is pleased with the squad he has and any additions will be a strengthening of the squad and not like previous years where we get bodies in the door but no better than what we had. From a financial perspective it would be good to move players on that are not in JBA’s plans but easier said than done.
This is where all the focus has to be, on this game. Not on cup dreams or transfer speculation. Going into the third round of fixtures and most seasons we have at least one round of fixtures where we struggle. 2 good rounds already so we need to play even better to have a good third round and hopefully keep us well in contention for top 4 spot.
two teams above us play each other (Hearts v Celtic) and two teams below us play each other (Falkirk v Hibs) so if we take care of our business it could be a great day for us.
Definitely agree with your statement about trying to sign a permanent CB. We should be trying for both, plus if there is a reasonable way to get Welsh permanent I’d be all for that as well.
