  1. Also what kind of a ridiculous question was "have you spoken to Claudio Reyna about the move?" ?!?!?!? Just pick out a random American name and throw it in there. Would have made sense if it was maybe Edu or Beasley as he might know them from somewhere in the USA U21 (or whatever it is) setup. But Claudio Reyna?!

I don't really, there are greater priorities which McCall is addressing. I think Hateley and Saunders are both good enough at right back against the run of the mill SPL teams. If you want someone better than that then they're outwith our price and salary range.

More to come too, ooft. Didn 't realise he was the left sided player mind you.
  4. "Other strikers coming here and getting a move further up in Scottish football" Contentious!

Did I hang anyone out to dry? You are comparing Jones to Weir, which as I and others point out is not a valid comparison. That is all. He might be good, he might be shite. Meantime, get off your high horse.

Aye but Walsall, Crewe and (non-prem) Burnley are hardy the same pedigree as Everton and Rangers so I don't think it's a valid argument...

A fit Stephen Hughes would be an excellent signing in my opinion, although central midfield shouldn't be the priority.
  9. Just back from FP there - I was told 2500 sold so far and they do not expect to sell out the allowance.

http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/01/11/more-ne...nt-out-on-loan/ One immediate difference we have seen in the way Alan Pardew manages the Magpies, is that he doesn’t want to see the top Newcastle youngsters not playing, and he seems keen to send them out on loan to get first team playing experience. Phil Airey – may go on loan to Motherwell We’ve always thought that was the best way for youngsters to develop, and that’s what Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have always done with their top young players. And we heard last night that 20 year-old Hungarian International Tamas Kadar, has been sent on a month-long loan to Lee Clark’s Huddersfield Town, and is likely to make his debut tonight against Plymouth Argyle. Lee was wondering whether he should ease Tamas into the side, or throw him in at the deep end, but Tamas has already proved he can easily hold his own at Newcastle, and Lee will apparently play him tonight. We think the Huddersfield fans will soon be impressed by this 6’2″ youngster, who is a great no-nonsense defender, and whose temperament is simply first class, and he could become a big player for Newcastle in the future – and the near future too. And it could be the start of a mutually beneficial liaison between Newcastle and Huddersfield Town, because Lee presumably would be willing to take some of Newcastle’s other up-and-coming stars, and we have to think 18 year-old central midfielder Haris Vuckic would be just great at some Championship club. The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Amble-born 19-year-old striker Phil Airey could be the next youngster to be loaned out, with Scottish Premier League club Motherwell said to be keen to take the youngster, who made his Newcastle debut in the FA Cup defeat at Stevenage. Phil joined Newcastle when he was just 10 years old, and has played 58 times (48 starts) for the Reserves/U-18 sides with a commendable 24 goals. And Phil, who stands 5’11″ tall, was a star of Newcastle U-18s run to the FA Youth Cup semi-final last season, before they were beaten by Aston Villa. Alan Pardew talked about Kadar: “This is a good chance for Tamas to go out on loan and get some games under his belt.” “Huddersfield are a good club who are chasing promotion, and he will be better off for experiencing football in a very tough division.” Alan’s absolutely right of course, and we expect even more of Newcastle’s young players to be loaned out before the end of the season. Huddersfield are also in the latter stages of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and maybe Tamas Kadar will get a chance to play at Wembley, if Huddersfield can get past Carlisle United in the semi-finals. Wouldn’t that be something for the Hungarian youngster.

My Newcastle supporting mate has told me that he has heard from contacts in Newcastle that we are trying to get reserve team striker Phil Airey on loan. He got his first appearance in their defeat against Stevenage at the weekend, and has scored 8 goals in 5 games for the reserves. Profile here... http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Teams/ReservePl...2117143,00.html Personally I don't think we need another striker, give Sutton/Murphy/Casagolda and McHugh their chance. Thoughts?
  13. Anyone ever watched him closely during his half time kickabout with the other subs? At halftime v Hearts, whilst all the other subs are punting it about, Casagolda gets a pass, first touch crosses his right foot behind his left and chips it the full width of the pitch right to whoever it was feet. Most entertaining bit of the whole night that...boy has some first touch on him. Dunno why he isnt at least given a chance as a sub sometimes.

    Hately

Bullshit. Why say you shouldnt single a player then start a new topic?! I thought he was having quite a good game (comparatively) until he went off. In the absence of Jennings then I can assume you would rather have Forbes or Fitzpatrick in there?
  15. Err no it wasn't, they got beat 2-0 by Stoke...

    Hearts

Hardly. It was just a bit too close to the keeper/the keeper did well in anticipating the ball. Look at the goal back on the highlights, who else would we see who would play that ball on a regular basis? There isn't anyone. From the evidence I've seen, thats what happens when it clicks because Lasley picked up on what Gow wanted to do. Gow, to me, appears to be the creative link everyone was shouting about needing a while ago. Put him on, he tries to create, and does create, and you get buffoons in the crowd shouting to 'get big Sutton oan and play it tae his heid'. I dispair..
  17. I had a wee scout of the odds on my preferred online bookies, Paddypower, before I came to the game last night. I didn't fancy a bet on the result cos I really wasn't sure, but Paddy's were offering 8/1 pre-match on a red card, and that price stuck out like a sore thumb to me. Didn't put anything on cos I don't really have gambling money right now, but with the ref strike and them wanting more respect, I expected the ref to 'stamp his authority' which in a game involving a team of physical cloggers like Hearts, equalled a good chance of a red. Basically, if I had the money I would have been all over it. I also quite fancied the OG first goal at 22/1 In short, people would have seen the ludicrous odds being offered and made their own conclusions, especially if a UK-wide audience is watching. I think we can't rush to conclusions over Stevie O Reilly, yes he was over zealous and made some strange decisions, and his demeanour was a bit uppity, but are we really going down the Celtic route and saying he's got to be a cheat?! Likewise with Jennings. Get a grip.
  18. Seriously, I agree and I'm sure a few others will too. Probably those who know good football and want a bit more than 'hoof it to the big man'. Gow was the best player in a Well shirt and I'm willing to argue that with anyone, no fishing.

    Hearts

Lasley was anonymous for the first half until his goal. Gow for me was easily the best player in a Well strip tonight. Always looking to do something a bit better than the usual long ball nonsense, constantly looking for 1-2s and throughballs and quite a few came off. If the rest of them were more on his wavelength it might have paid off more often. Held the ball up well too. Off nights for quite a few, particualrly Reynolds.
  20. I'm going to say that Stephen Craigan wouldn't be the worst choice Boyle could make. It's clear he has the affinity for Motherwell that so many are citing as neccessary, I'm sure he has the respect of the players, he is media savvy and always comes across very well. Granted, we don't know how he'd set out a team but with an experienced number 2 (any suggestions?) then he'd make a good manager I reckon. Anyone know if he has coaching badges?
  21. Interesting to see that Will Hill have opened a book on it, with Jimmy Calderwood top at 2/1. http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en-gb/be...ll-Manager.html Some notable omissions I think - Craigan, Young, McCart, Adams, Butcher are all people who might be in with a shout. Anyone reckon there's value in any of the odds shown?

No. It's not. And for whoever wrote it first, it's intelligenTSIA, from latin I think. To me, probably popularised by George Orwell's use in books like 1984. Anyway, what a shite thread. Keep it to the football eh?
